Oh don't get me wrong, I love playing Austria. Its fun as hell, because I like the stress. I just don't fare too well in the end game lol.

@Scmoo - do you know your GR?
@Ivo - professors comment on a thread created in the forum for this game. They are pretty much observers who comment on the gameplay of each country. What you do is still very informative. I remember when I was a student I always looked forward to hearing the professors praise or criticize my moves, to see how a true dip player would have done it. You give an opinion on their moves in retrospect, and possibly point to tell-tale signs that perhaps a stab was coming or something of the sort. TA's PM their student with advice and answer questions the student has on how to advance.
@ninjaIntervention - a game this length usually lasts 2 and a half months or so. It really depends on how quick the powers develop/how good the gameplay is. Games ending in 1918 last a lot longer than games ending in 1910. Good games tend to last longer.
@bas - you said that you would be away next week. So does that mean you are or are not able to be a TA for the first game (hopefully there will be more)? If you cannot do it, I will put Bonotow back in that spot. Sorry to demote you, but I am uncomfortable having more than two professors, because I feel like they will just repeat each other, and Eden and rdrivera had the job first.
We are halfway to having enough staff and students for a second game! Keep it up everyone! To any lurkers out there who read this, please come and volunteer!
Now, if there is only to be one game, then this is the roster for it. Ivo, pete, scmoo, bonotow, leif, and cachimbo thank you for all volunteering and I'm sorry I couldn't fit you into the first game. Still stick around though, because either 1) a second game will be created or 2) a player may drop out and we need a replacement pool.
Now I agree with a lot of what Tru Ninja says, so to put it all in the same spot, I'm gonna copy a lot of what he said, and add a few changes.
"Just to list some appropriate rules, I would urge any professors to seer clear of giving any comments that might sway future seasonal moves, like "x is in a tough spot going into the next season. He needs to be talking to Y and forming an alliance if he's going to pull out" or "Y should really ally with X in the next season so that he can accomplish his goal".
If the comments are based only on the things that have already occurred, it gives the students the ability to learn from both the TA and the professor in the forum for future games and doesn't influence the events in the current game.
Alternatively, TA's should find a means of giving the student the control over what to do with the TA giving advice on various ways to proceed. Get the student to come up with their own goals based on your suggestions. This might include things like "at this point in the game, you need to begin thinking about how to seal up the stalemate line to prevent a loss at the hands of X." If a student asks for advice on movement, help him to double-check his moves to ensure that the enemy can't retreat into his backfield. Using questions to answer questions promotes thought and allows the student to transfer learning to future games whereas a straight out answer only applies to this particular game.
Remember that this is a high profile game even though it's a low pot. Many people are putting a lot of their time into it and as such any NMR's or CD's will be looked on highly unfavorably and have negative repercussions in future sessions of the SoW for that player/TA. If you know that you're going to be away, please take the following actions:
students: please ask for a pause until such a time as you can appropriately return to the game. If it's longer than a week, please find a fill-in from the list of alternate students.
TA's: notify your student and find a temporary fill-in from among the alternate TA's because the game isn't going to pause from a missing TA."
Now, about the game setup. I will make the game, so don't worry about it at all, okay? It will be 48 hours, non-anon, WTA, 5 point buy-in, and password protected. When I make it (probably next wednesday) I will post a link on the new thread (which I will also make) and PM players the password. If you don't join by saturday, you will be replaced. Also, if each player could send a PM to me, saying that they have gotten in touch with their TA within one day of the game starting, that would be great. If there are less than 18 hours left in the phase and I haven't heard from you, a new TA will be assigned.
Commenting in the thread is forbidden for students and TA's until the game is over, when EOG's are expected. Phase commentary from professors is the main content of the thread, but questions from the public may be permitted, though leading questions is frowned upon.
Last thing, if two games are going to be formed, the TA list will be scrambled, but the players list will remain in GR order, with the bottom 7 playing each other, and then the next 7 up playing each other.
I believe that's it folks, thanks for bearing with this long post. I hope I covered everything and I hope its a great SoW session!
