Being a Diplomat
I've finally hoarded enough points to achieve the elusive label of "Diplomat" on my profile again. For some reason though, I'm not really all that thrilled with the "upgrade" from the previous rank.

Soloing without building fleets
I'm curious how often powers can solo without building an additional fleet. I'm also wondering which powers could accomplish this feat. From what I can think of, there are only two powers that could accomplish it, Austria and Russia.

Obama tried same thing as Trump and got blocked
Obama repeatedly tried to give tax breaks for companies that "insource' jobs to the U.S. from overseas while eliminating tax deductions for companies that move jobs abroad.

And that is while i ignore the way the NRA has, acting as spokesperson and lobbiests for the gun manufacturers, has managed to make gun ownership a matter of patriotism. Propoganda aimed at increased market penetration. And prevent any laws which could result in a safer gun-free culture to exist. Because if people are safe - they wouldn't need guns, now will they?

Yes, America is truely the land of the free. Everyday, you can walk down the street, knowing you are free to be shoot at by a random passer-by. </sarcasm> NB: i just heard about the Ohio state shooting.

"Everyday, you can walk down the street, knowing you are free to be shoot at by a random passer-by."
And I'm the propagandist?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
@TrPrado, saying it is legal doesn't make it right.

And you have still failed to respond to the FBI illegally killing your own citizens; the closest thing to what you criticised Castro for doing.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
No Tr, the NRA is the propogandist. You are the duoe who has fallen for it.

Seriously, tell me that isn't true, when another mass shooting occured today.

Do I go spouting out NRA tropes? No. I don't even own a gun. Most gunowners aren't even part of the NRA.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
Did i say you were? I said the NRA has managed to make gun ownership in a form of patriotism.

I say this makes less safe, and less free. And that your government has allowed this to happen. Facilitated the sick people who go out and murder their fellow citizens. Because the gun lobby wanted to make more sales.

This is fundamental to the America you know and love, corporate profits above the health, well-being and safety of individual citizens.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
You're saying "Cuba is a terrible place, look at all the political repression, they aren't free."

And all i'm saying is look at your own country first.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
"and less free"
Spouting of propaganda. How can I trust you now that you've made an assertion that decreasing gun ownership is a matter of freedom?
TrPrado (461 D)

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Cubans celebrated Castro DYING. That's no small thing, celebrating the loss of an individual person's death.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
loss of the person's life* that is
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
Ok, fine, that is my opinion. I prefer to live in a country with gun control, and no mass shooting incidents since pretty much ever.

But my point stands. The NRA advocates for gun-owners, because they are customers. And this forces more people to buy guns for their own protection (not everyone mind, but i'm sure the NRA would be happy if everyone was carrying a gun at all times) It doesn't care about the safety of citizens.

Still, you can find one tiny hole in my entire arguemet; that doesn't mean ou can address any of the other issues. Obama and his drone strikes. Slavery in the prison service (for-profit-prisons subsidised by the tax-payer). Repeated mass shootings (unlike australia, which had one and then introduced severe gun-control laws).

Did i mention the poverty? The lack of democratic legitimacy? The propoganda spouted by every american i discuss this with 'but we're a republic, not a democracy'... Need i go on?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
You know, i can't help but feel you're ignoring my arguement, because you can't admit i'm right.

Cubans celebrating Castro's death doesn't make him a villian. (Not that i've argued the opposite, not once have i said he was a hero) many people believing slmething doesn't make it true. That is an arguement for popularity equaling truth. And it continues to be bullshit.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
"The lack of democratic legitimacy?"
We have it more than Cuba does :)
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
Whose death would you celebrate, ora?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
Yeah, and Cuba has better access to health care (despite spending less on it) So what?

Grasping at straws here i see.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
If someone came to power, and specifically dispossessed me of my home, and forced me into exile in a country which had a history of imperialism and rasicsm towards my people, and i raised my family to hate that someone. They would likely celebrate the death.

And if the US happened to be the one who out that someone into power, i'm sure you would moutne the loss of a valuable ally.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
Still, you refuse to address the bulk of my arguement. Because you can't admit when you are wrong. Thus i see no reason to continue this conversation.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
*"put that someone in power", even.
TrPrado (461 D)

Over half the Cubans in the US were Cuban-born. Most of those celebrating LIVED under Castro. They aren't all the children of refugees, they largely ARE the refugees.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
If you were forced to live in either the US or Cuba, which would you choose?
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
I live in shitrag Oklahoma. Higher than average poverty rates, horrible roads, horrible education, terrible healthcare, an almost annual budget crisis. And I'd still choose here over there.
brainbomb (290 D)

Shitrag?... do oklahomans literally wipe their asses with handtowels because that would be a ridiculous over use of detergent...
orathaic (1009 D(B))
28 Nov 16 UTC
@Tr, glad to see you are still ignoring my arguements.

Most people would choose to live where they were born, over a place they've never been. Unless it is promised to be the land of ever flowing beer and honey (propaganda?) And especially if it is demonised in your media as *shock* *horror* Communist!

But that doesn't really say much (other than propoganda is effective, and people like what they know)

I'd prefer to live in a country with gun control. So i'd probably pick Cuba.

But then, not being Cuban i would probably not be entitled to free health care and yadda yadda.

Still, people's preferences arenmt really relevant. Also, you live in a (supposedly) free democracy. You should be using your free speech to right the wrongs being done in your name (by your representatives). You may actually have the power to effect change for the better.

Whereas you instead choose to berat another nation who cares literally nothing about what you say. Your voice is wasted, like your freedom?

Texas was one step away from annexing Cuba. This fucker messed up everything. The south will rise again gentlemen and with it a brand new glorious age.
TrPrado (461 D)
28 Nov 16 UTC
It's not statistically likely you're going to be shot in the US. Get over that propaganda.

"You should be using your free speech to right the wrongs being done in your name (by your representatives)."
I will be. I'm going into politics, and that's not so I can shake hands and kiss babies.

"Most people would choose to live where they were born, over a place they've never been."
Like the tens of thousands of Cubans who leave their homes for the US each year? The number of Cuban immigrants per year drastically increased when Obama normalized relations with Cuba.

Trump to dump Pence after inauguration?
After appointing a Supreme Court justice and a big tax cut, Trump might be replaced by Pence (due to conflict of interest of biz dealings), but what if Trump replaced Pence with a Democrat first? Then Trump is immune from investigation because Pence is no longer there to replace him. Genius?
