Early reads:
Chaqa - Manages to contradict himself in his first serious post arguing for a lynch and voting no-lynch. Explains this by saying he just wanted to get vote in (3hrs into a 48hr phase and he had already voted (for ghug)). Whilst his explanation is terrible, I sense he believed it at the time. Mafia would offer up a much better excuse, I’m sure. That said, we have all fallen for the ‘too dumb to be scum’ mantra before. So Chaqa is far from cleared. Chaqa then has small hissy fit when Y2 says Chaqa’s contradictions raised a red flag. Chaqa appears to try and use the ‘everyone always thinks I’m scum therefore I’m not’ defence, which he must surely know won’t wash with this experienced team. Chaqa then accepts my Mayor claim without question but doesn’t follow my lead preferring to vote for vash and states a valid reason. PE then describes Chaqa as “..that neighbor kid's Jack Russell Terrier that's moody when you don't approach him how he likes but way too adorable to lynch.” I doubt if scum PE would defend scum Chaqa so early when chaqa isn’t under pressure, but I won’t read too much into PE’s statement either way. What is interesting is Chaqa’s response to my voting for him and my forthright criticism that he is a useless scum-hunter. Rather than getting defensive as he did with Y2, he takes a jokey line. Which was quite funny. I have to wonder if his more amiable approach to me is because he knows I can lead town to our first lynch and he wants to buddy with me. In summary, I have Chaqa as null. I don’t think he’d be a bad lynch if no prime candidates emerge, but for now ##unvote Chaqa. Chaqa asking if Mayor can split his 3 votes is, to me, an example of someone typing without forethought. More likely a town tell, but not a strong one.
Fluminator – I don’t understand some of Fluminator’s early posts so I’m hoping there is nothing indicative in them that I’ve missed. At top of pg3 Fluminator says “I don't think you were scum-read for quite awhile in the games you were mafia Chaqa.””Does this mean you're town?” Later on pg4, Fluminator says “Also, Chaqa is almost confirmed town to me right now. Town Chaqa always says things without double checking.” In between those posts chaqa had only posted once and that wasn’t directed towards Fluminator. I find Fluminator’s eagerness to state that Chaqa is “almost confirmed town” noteworthy. I’m not saying it’s scummy, just noteworthy.
The rest of Fluminator’s posts are just one liners. His insightful response to Vash’s question about why Fluminator is voting Vash – paraphrase: ‘because I think you’re scum’. Isn’t the kind of response I’d expect from someone of Fluminator’s ability. His posts seem to be fillers rather than being constructive. If Fluminator is town, I’d hope to see a lot more of him scum hunting and solving the puzzle. Null for now.
Ghug – I want Ghug to be mafia so bad and for a town win so I can regain my rightful place as Lord of the Game. I must put that to back of my mind and just concentrate of facts in front of me. Out of all responses to my Mayor claim, ghug’s seemed the most authentic. That doesn’t make him town, but it does point to his authenticity. I’m never happy when Ghug sits back as I think he has a lot to contribute when town. Never sure if his commenting on his drunken state is anchoring and getting excuses in early if he is called out for saying something scummy. This is All-Star game Ghug – booze is prohibited for two weeks. There is a reason Bo isn’t playing remember.
Guak – Always quiet no matter which alignment. I hope he contributes as generally he takes an independent line and has original thoughts.
Hellenic Riot – Posted reads early which is always welcome and didn’t engage is jokey stuff early on. Not sure I understand why he says he and PE are on same wave level. I like that he pushes people. Doing all the things a town would do, or scum mimicking a good townie. Whilst I dislike people who get ‘feeling’ or ‘vibes’ about people, as this is often excuse for laziness. I get a vibeling HR is town.
Krellin – I actually want him to lurk and get lynched early regardless of alignment. Can’t stand the guy and never have.
Maniac – Most Handsome Mayor of all time.
President Eden – I was struck by PE’s rapid and absolute acceptance of my Mayor claim. I had agonized about whether it was right thing to do for hours before posting and yet PE accepts it within minutes. Either he is super intelligent and weighed up pros and cons much quicker than me, or he’s scum and thinks they have 50/50 of hitting a PR early on. Apart from that little red flag, PE anchors early on about his MTG game but in fairness does contribute later. Not sure about his reasons for voting Y2 and Vash, but at least he’s pressing people.
thdfrance – Hasn’t done much yet.
tvrocks – Trys to start BH debate: Non-indicative. Picks up on Chaqa’s contradictions. Good. Returns to BH topic on pg4. Null for now.
VashtaNeurotic – Gives his thoughts on PRs, not sure I (or even he) fully understands how anyone could work out who BH’s bounties are, but that isn’t alignment indicative IMO. He does seem to be a little too defensive when people vote for him. Which is great as voting is meant to apply pressure.
WardenDresden – Another player who seems defensive when challenged, but maybe he is just pointing out flaws in others’ reasoning. Including my own reasoning about his use of the word ‘honestly’.
Wjessop – If WJessop is hoping that his quiet start will be perceived as town because he was active as scum he will soon find that this group of players will see through such a tactic.
Yoyoyozo – Yoyo always seems to be playing the last games rather than the one in front of him. That may be because not too much happened early on or it may be that he has an over-reliance as past games being good indicators of current games. IDK. I’d like to see more of him.
y2kjbk – solid start but seems little scarred of getting scum read. I like his declaration that he would support a lurker lynch. It implies, to me, that he isn’t the BH as BH perhaps wouldn’t say he would support an unnamed person lynch as it boxes him in a little. I’d expect BH to keep his powder dry until later in hope someone else starts a lynch on one of his bounties which he can follow. As, from his perspective, bounties are 3/14, there is a good chance that one of them will be in the frame before long. Null for now.
In summary no one really jumps out to me as scummy and I’m loathed to assign someone a scum label for comments they have made when others would get a pass for staying quiet. That to me rewards lurking and penalises active, talkative players. To win we should be punishing lurkers and encouraging active/talkative players.
##vote Krellin – just for being Krellin.
