German Opening Strategies: Update for Online Play

PREFACE: I am really a rather rotten player. I write this not because I enjoy any good measure of skill at the game of Diplomacy, but rather because I enjoy writing.

Drinking Age
What is the drinking age in your society?
This is the most illogical part of America. An 18-year old has the competence to vote for President but not to drink a beer.

quick question
Hi, I used to play many many years ago and now I am back to webdiplomacy. Just a quick question, how many phases do you need to miss for the game to kick you out?

Apologies if this question had been asked before but I couldnt find it in FAQs.

Dear Krellin, who do you hate?
I'd like to start a game with some cool lefties/decent people, and figured the quickest way to work out who to invite was to ask you who you hated most. At the moment I'm thinking a game with Tolstoy, Major Mitchell, Thucy, Cachimbo, Hecks and Bo-sox would be fun. Did I miss anyone?

The Libertarian Rift
It is often claimed that divisions in the GOP run clearly along statist/libertarian lines, but this is frequently unclear in practice, as there are a good many other divisions and alignments as well (as in the Democratic Party). Here is a particularly clean example of the former, however.

Replacement for Summer League Games
Hi all. I am looking for someone who would be willing to replace one of the seven members in our Summer League. She abruptly decided to give up Diplomacy and her departure has halted our league play.

If you are interested in replacing someone who is in a great position in the League message me and I can send you more information. Thanks.

I loved the reference to the Big Boy coloring books, krellin. Her in SW Ohio, we have Frisch's which is a local chain of the Big Boy franchise and I remember the days as a kid of the "Archies" coloring books as well as "Big Boy" himself. I think they still have kids placemats which usually have a coloring section as well as a find the word and connect the dots puzzle for kids. Not having kids, I couldn't say for certain.

Maybe we should collect a variety of coloring placemats to send to all the good Libtards here...we can put a link up to the, let the Libtards download, color and post their results.

Then we can judge which Libtards have the skills necessary to keep within the lines.

EMAC - in good Libtard fashion, you dismiss the facts you do not like. 100% Predictable.

According to Thuc-wad himself, statistics are the end-all and be-all of gauging our society, and the basis for every argument he has ever made. Therefore....I present him with a statistic -- his ideas, in this society, have almost half the value of my ideas...and I'm an offensive, loud-mouthed, insult-slinging blowhard. Imagine what my number would be if I actually presented my thought with flowery, butterfly language to attract all the sugar ants among us that only reply to catchy phrases that sound funny and cute.

If you had a shred of statistical rigor you would understand that I have been posting on this site since 2007, and the +1 system was instituted in what, 2010?

What really blows the mind is that you are such a windbag that you have posted 80% of the amount I have in nearly a little under half the time.

Thuc-wad stands in denial of statistics and facts when they don't match up to his per-determined belief system.

The numbers speak for themselves Thuc-wad. read 'em and weep.

How about this....you start addressing the questions I have posed to you over the week and months of our discussion instead of hiding like a coward, and maybe I'll do you the same courtesy.

1. Are individuals responsible for their own behavior?
2. Do you believe that all individuals, regardless of racem, gender or belief, shoudl be treated equally, and have equal access to society, including the use of language? (

Reposting my response to your "yes or no" questions that I have already submitted, that you unsurprisingly failed to read:

"You think people should not be treated equally?"

I think people deserve to have equal opportunities in their lives. I think they do not right now, usually on the basis of gender, race, and class. You disagree. For this I consider you ignorant at best, bigoted at worst. Most probably you have a hard time reading other people's words and considering their points for more than five seconds.

"You think people should have special priviledge [sic] in their behavior based upon skin color?"

I'm not sure I understand this question. What is "special priviledge [sic]" in my behavior, or anyone's behavior? Are you asking about white privilege, which is a description of an injustice, or are you asking a normative question about whether people *should* have privileges? If the former, I say yes, white privilege exists, though it doesn't deserve to. If the latter I say no, no one deserves to have a special privilege over others.

"You think minorities and women need the help of white men to succeed?"

No. But I do think that the whole of society (in which white men consistently have the most power - an injustice, to be clear) keeps people in oppressed categories oppressed, and that this should be changed. I think that all people, oppressed or privileged, have a responsibility to confront these injustices. To that end a white male has a responsibility to care about the oppression of women, minorities, and others.

But this is not because women or minorities are somehow less capable that a white male.

Your line of reasoning is essentially this:

"For thousands of years these groups have been oppressed, and as a result they live lives of oppression in the present. To suggest that they should cease to be oppressed it oppress them!"

It would be like saying supporting the end of white rule in South Africa was oppressive to the blacks because it ignored the agency of the blacks themselves. This line of reasoning is clearly nonsense and I will not be replying to it any further.

You've really gotten hung up on it in the last month, but seem not be aware that it's a dead end. It's the ugliest sort of evasion to avoid confronting actual racism and sexism - accusing those confronting it of the same.

Hey Krellin
Could you warn me whenever you read a good argument against you in one of the many threads? I was thinking we might have to recruit some secretaries who can filter out arguments like Kafkatraps, complete fiction, partial fiction, anything including the word nigger, so we can focus on the arguments that can be considered worthy of your time. Post interest in becoming secretary in this thread and I'll get you a form.

How DARE Soldiers Fighting Religious Fanatics Not Be Religious?!
http://news.yahoo.com/u-military-problem-atheists-065000534.html
I find that ironic in the US Military's case (for the above-stated reason)...but it's an issue that crops up every now and again, people thinking that a lack of religious belief MUST mean you're "at risk," or "depressed" or a danger to yourself or others...how about we're not convinced by the "evidence" for God and think that Religion kills (and encourages killing at that) and leave us be?

Fear of Clowns (Lighthearted)

* Hey folks...sorry for the thread bombing we have **all** been doing...so here is a little something lighthearted to discuss I heard on NPR yesterday.
* Are you afraid of clowns? Grown men in makeup doing socially unacceptable things, often to children? (Like touching, squirting them with water, etc. while hiding behind a mask?) Or are they innocuous fun?

295 versus Turnpike
I'll be headed to New Jersey in a few weeks and was hoping to get some insight on this. Is there any benefit to taking I-295 to the I-195 junction instead of paying the tolls on the NJ Turnpike (northbound from Delaware)?
