The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

We crashed recently, but we're on our way right back up. This is the fifth month, so you won't be able to see any of our real progress.
I will personally abbreviate secretary positions as follows:
Secretary of Labor - SecLab
Secretary of Defense - SecDef
Secretary of Communications and Relations - SecCom
Secretary of Resources - SecRes

Serious suggestions: Don't piss off the separatists too much, its easier to convince people to join when you look like the supportive and happy go lucky government. I agree with the carrot over stick theory. I plan on lobbying the king for more support when I arrive on the mainland, and so far what I am considering lobbying for:
- 1,000 loyal colonists (Including atleast 2 doctors, 1 alchemist, 3 carpenters, 2 masons, and 2 farmer families.)
-100 Royal Guard
-All the equipment needed to make a distillery (so we can get started making export products)
- Black smithing equipment and 2 blacksmiths.
- Small fishing boats to extend our fish-able waters.
- pretty much i am going to lobby for tons of things that I think can help the colony.

So right now I am just goofing letting all of you capable people run Roanoke.

I personally think we could benefit if I make this a regular occurrence, I leave with the shipment every other shipment to lobby the king; and come back with some more of what I lobbied. I could be the delegate to the crown or some bullshit. Having a human voice on the mainland could only benefit us.

@CB ... personally, at this stage of things, I would prefer that we send one of our more credible councilors back to lobby with the King. I'm sorry, but in the past few months, your a) absence, b) continued "jokes" about biological warfare after seriously pushing for it at one stage, and c) ridiculous tantrum over the HC position have basically killed off the confidence I have in you with such a role. I hope you don't take this the wrong way; I'm only saying that you need to reestablish your credibility, at least with me, before I entrust you with a job like lobbying the King when we could easily have an advisor do that on our payroll.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Mar 15 UTC
As for your suggestions, if we're going to have so many new colonists, we're going to need a number of things, including a butt ton of wood. Our island will not provide all that we need, and we must be economically conservative when taking up resources like wood that don't just regrow when we need it. It takes a long time, so we need to conserve it. It's just smart economic practice. The way to do this is to bring in available wood from the mainland and potentially buy it off of traders. We would also need more gold, more food, and more space for farming, which we wouldn't necessarily have unless we cleared the forests, and I just demonstrated why that's a bad idea. As such, I would advocate for somewhere between 250 and 500 new colonists whose arrivals are spread out over the course of a year, and on those ships, we also have various supplies, like wood, seeds, and gold, that we need in order to sustain them. They would also need various vaccinations, food for the trip, and space to live, though I have no problem putting them into cramped quarters for the journey over here if it makes more space for necessities.

Can the HC, or some other savvy person, create a vote for what positions need to be created, and who should take them?

Magistrate: Will the Guard's map of the colony be added to the scroll?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Mar 15 UTC
Considering only one position can be filled by a single person, I think we should make these polls based on nominations. If you want to run for one of the four positions (Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Defense and the Guard, Secretary of Communications and Relations with the natives, or Secretary of Resources), you should probably nominate yourself before we make the poll.

As far as I recall:

• TrPrado nominated himself for Secretary of Labor.
• KingCyrus nominated himself for Secretary of Defense.
• bo_sox48 nominated himself for Secretary of Communications and Relations.

I think all three of us have vocal support, but that's up to the poll. If you want one of the four, nominate yourself, and once we have decided who gets what, we can work to give each secretary a more specific jurisdiction and decide how much power the secretaries have.

@Bo- I have to go back to the mainland anyway because I am taking a break from the game for IRL reasons. while I am off however I can lobby the king. What I will do is have everyone PM me what they think I should lobby for. Then I will write up a letter to the king and post it here for everyone to read. This way you all can see what exactly I would be asking for. (keeping in mind the king may say no) as to your responses. A) I have been very active, I make at least 1 serious suggestion every month and voice support for ideas i agree with. B) satire is a art, if you can't pick up on that then I am sorry, but I have already spoken to you in PM about how much I DONT agree with biological warfare. C) The HC thing was agitation from the constant misinterpretation of my serious posts and the constant bringing up of my satire and comedy posts whenever I tried to make serious posts (Like now).

You expect to be able to communicate with us like that from the mainland? What do you think this is, some online sociological and administrative experiment? I don't even know what online is, because it's not 2015. The world will end in year 2000 anyway. It says so in Revelations.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
26 Mar 15 UTC

I am prioritizing getting gold, more skilled laborers, and the equipment for a distillery; (once we begin distilling our own alcohol we have a constant and self sufficient way to trade alcohol for gold and can keep up our economy.) When it comes to wood, if I bring 500 colonists instead of 1,000 and bring 2 farming families, then the ares we clear of wood an be used to farm more crops, covering both the feeding and housing of our new colonists.

I think a lobby to the King would be a great idea. Personally, I would like to see an experienced fisherman coming. Blacksmiths, Carpenters, Doctors, and a Miner would be great as well. Gold is a must.

"To my majesty the King,
I, CommanderByron, am writing you in regards to the colony of WebDipia. As a councilor on this colony for 6 months, I have seen both the benefits that this colony can offer your royal coffers and the challenges that stand before it. It is with this knowledge that I am writing this report. I, as a former Royal Naval Commander, know of the hard work and sacrifice that goes into progress; but as a entrepeneur and business owner I also know the immense benefits of investment. It is with these ideals that I am writing this report.
In regards to the security of the colony; in recent months the native colonists have been divided between your crown and their native elders. The councilors have successfully begun earning the trust and support of the seperatist colonists and given time the colony will return to full stability. Of course with your gracious hand and support the colonists would see a king who cares not only for the pearls which the colony harvests but also for them as subjects of his crown.
The prospects of this colony are high, I forsee a thriving economic port for your coffers. The colony has the future ability to produce mined material from a nearby mountain, distilled alcohols, harvested wood and other crops, as well as the already profitable pearl harvests. Given the appropriate investments WebDipia could begin to show strong economic prospect for the empire. This leads me into my suggested investments.
It is my suggestion that the colony be gifted 1,000 gold from the royal coffers to continue advancing the colony forward, this money would be a one time investment should you invest in the distillery that I shall mention later. The gold would be used to pay loyal colonists for their work and as a fixed trading measure for the colony's fledgling economy. I further would like to request 500 loyal colonists; of which I would like to have 2 trained doctors, 1 alchemist, 3 carpenters, 2 masons, 2 blacksmiths, 1 miner, 1 trained fisherman and 2 families of farmers. These people would help elevate the colony's production.
In regards to the logistical investments that could be made in WebDipia, the resources to build and manage a distillery would provide alcohol that can be sold throughout the empire. Further the colony would benefit from the aquisition of several small fishing craft to grow our fishing yield. All in all, the empire will benefit from a new and prosperous colony under its control.
I hope that you can see it in your best interest to meet with me further before I return to WebDipia on the next ship.
Your loyal and humble Coucilor,
CommanderByron"

*cough* as the proposed SecDef, with no current opposition, I propose a small jail of some sort. As we have already arrested people... This seems necessary.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Mar 15 UTC
Councilor Byron, given that we have no immediate need for more land for agriculture, I see no reason why we should be clearing land for it. We would be far better off replanting the forests that we cut down so that, given time, we might be able to use nothing but our own forests to supply us with wood. Expansion is needless.
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Mar 15 UTC

Do we need to vote if there are no people disagreeing? Seems rather futile to me. We can give people the rest of this month to disagree, and if conflict arises, we vote.

Liking the other stuff here.

So magistrate, can we use the rancid chicken as bait for increased fishing productivity this month?

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
