The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

First things first, I think we should elect positions. I nominate Prado as Secretary of Labor.

What other positions do we want?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

We had Labor, Defense, Communications and Relations (which I would love to fill), and Resources I think.

Let's increase food production all around. We're all right on pearls - not great, but all right. We have 50 more workers to throw into the mix too, and hopefully their production will allow us to reward them at the end of the month.

I say that we stay constant with the extra benefits to the loyalists until our fruit is fully grown. We don't need to tap into it too early. We can bring in some more gold on our first shipment.

I also want to point out that a number of separatists were arrested. I don't believe that it is good for our cause that we are arresting the natives, regardless of what faction they belong to at the moment. I suggest that, given a pledge of loyalty to the King and to our cause, we release them from jail immediately and allow them to work for 50% of typical compensation for the next 3 months. After 3 months, we should have a pretty solid idea on whether or not they are actually loyal or simply said it to get out of prison, and at that point, we can decide whether or not they should be given full loyalist benefits.

Tasks:
Offer prisoners clemency in exchange for fealty

Policies
Make it illegal for colonists not loyal to the King to approach buildings marked with a banner (ENACTED)
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)

I would also be fully supportive of a Loyal Elder committee serving in an advisory sense. We planned on allowing the loyalists to serve as advisors anyway, did we not? We should oversee elections and allow the loyalists, new and old, to decide who among them deserves an elder seat. We can offer their chosen elders a royal seal and allow them to work with the councilors.

Call the Alchemist on that one...

I suggest we do form a Loyal Elder committee, but it needs to be fully integrated into our government. They should meet at the Town Hall, and be officially governmental.
Good turn. I don't like the split in natives, but it seems to be working.
There are two dangers to be mindful of:
1. The seperatists should not be encouraged to make a true new (hostile) settlement. Therefore my proposed policy is: no further aggravation, minimal support with promise of full support when loyal. I want to use a carrot to lure them back in, no sticks please.
2. Internal unrest. If we put laws down forbidding something, the logical consequence is that people get arrested. We need to get these people a proper trial and way of rehabilitation.

- I second TrPrado as SoL
- I second Bo as SoR
- I suggest we ration food, giving the seperatists a minimal ration and the loyalists a double ration. I'll let our SoL figure out how much each should be :-P
- I second the notion of an Elder Council as parliament in town hall. I had mentioned using the original council as such before, but this loyalist council may even be better.
- Give this council the responsibility to sentence people under arrest with incarceration up to one year.

See, I told you it'd work out. Things are going nicely, and we have more carrots to give now. I agree fully on the elders presiding over sentencing - with the exception of "Treason", IE. attacking the royal guard or us. That would be a crime against the crown, so the crown should retain control of the punishments, in my eyes.

The rancid chicken is a problem. On the other hand, we should be able to use that as bait for catching more fish this month. Is that possible, Magistrate?

Seconding the ministerial nominations.
TrPrado (461 D)

These Elders are loyal to the King. Why not let them sentence in those instances?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
26 Mar 15 UTC
Well, they are loyal to the king but they have not been raised in the King's Land under the King's Law. What I'm essentially saying is that we should retain control of the Death penalty.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

If they order it and we merely correct them if we disagree, we are less prone to becoming 'those murderers'.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Mar 15 UTC
Sorry, HR, I'm going to disagree with you, not that we should preside over the death penalty, but that we should be able to use the death penalty at all. No matter how stable things may look, we are always walking along a potentially unstable line. We are not the natives here, and yet we are depending on them to keep us alive and kicking. Killing them, no matter which side they are on, looks bad, even if there appears to be good reason. We run the risk of losing loyalty if we begin to use our power like that, especially if we make such things a public spectacle, which we would have to given that our only method of execution is by the rope - we need our ammo. It would be much, much safer for us if we allowed the Loyal Elders to at the very least preside over such cases as equals with us rather than excluding them entirely and allow them to make the final choice between exile and death. At the very least, we can take the heat off of our shoulders that way and demonstrate that the loyal natives and the separatist natives are in fact two different peoples now and that it is improper to consider them of the same blood.

Valid point. Maybe for those crimes, we should demand they are incarcerated until the next ship arrives, and then sent back to the Mainland to be tried there?
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Mar 15 UTC
I want the opinion of the Loyal Elders on that one.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Agreed with Prado. Personally, I wouldn't recommend a trial on the mainland either, as we all know how that is bound to go. There's a gallows in every town square back home, is there not?

we could brand all criminals who offend the crown. We could use one of the medallions heated and then pressed to the back of the offenders hand to signal their disloyalty to the king. make it public spectacle....

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
