Sorry, HR, I'm going to disagree with you, not that we should preside over the death penalty, but that we should be able to use the death penalty at all. No matter how stable things may look, we are always walking along a potentially unstable line. We are not the natives here, and yet we are depending on them to keep us alive and kicking. Killing them, no matter which side they are on, looks bad, even if there appears to be good reason. We run the risk of losing loyalty if we begin to use our power like that, especially if we make such things a public spectacle, which we would have to given that our only method of execution is by the rope - we need our ammo. It would be much, much safer for us if we allowed the Loyal Elders to at the very least preside over such cases as equals with us rather than excluding them entirely and allow them to make the final choice between exile and death. At the very least, we can take the heat off of our shoulders that way and demonstrate that the loyal natives and the separatist natives are in fact two different peoples now and that it is improper to consider them of the same blood.
