The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

Yeah, we won't. Depending on when exactly the ship is coming, we need either 26 or 52 total pearl farmers to reach quota.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Tasks
Assign Barrow to Pearl Harvesting
Recall the LT and have him defend
Offer Loyal colonists a position as Advisor
Give Loyal Colonists 5 bolts of Cloth and increased rations
Have the Mason build a Palisade around the Town Center
Assign 3 Wheat Farmers to Construction

Policies
Make it illegal for colonists not loyal to the King to approach buildings marked with a banner (PROPOSED)
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)
Just logged in again. I like the idea of positions, and yeah, I could go for the Advisors. The Infrastructure is implied though, since it's the Mason that actually does infrastructure. Labor is also a very important one.

Defence I like less, simply because I feel we're moving too fast in setting it up. The divide and rule mentality of this Council is not mine - I'm still convinced we can work together with the local population on a win/win basis. I really don't see any inherent conflict in this position of us wanting pearls and them wanting peace, so there is no sense in creating conflict where there is none. It will only disrupt our production.

In short: as a capitalist I favour stability over some powerplay with the Elders. Let's work *with* them.

As an aside, it may be interesting to set up political parties of Hawks and Doves. Then at least the Elders know that they can come to me when they want to talk. Divide and conquer, but who are we dividing?
Also @MAGISTRATE: Did you ever clarify the local laws as I requested? What happens in case of murder / theft / ...?

From now on, I'll just tag my request @MAGISTRATE so that they're more easily found.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Magistrate: Councilor TMoW, as I indicated, the colonists are communal. Lesser crimes result in minor reduction in communal rights, perhaps less food. Major crimes may result in being ostracized from the town. Since there is no other known settlement on the island, that will likely result in death.
Thanks. How often is somebody sentenced? Has that happened in recent times? And am I correct to assume the sentence is pronounced by the Elders?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: Punishments would be decided by the Elders. I have no traditionally involved myself in the minor affairs of the colonists. A larger event like being ostracized I would know about, though.

Defense is certainly a lesser job, and we hope it won't be necessary. But I believe the strongarming of the locals by putting a palisade around the granary, town hall, and barracks is a good idea. Maybe we can incorporate something with Defense and call it something else?

TMOW: There is a conflict now. HC intentionally created one.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
TMOW: I would vote for you if you ran for HC, you sound reasonable and like you won't try to screw the colony based on some odd opinion that the elders should be overthrown for caring about their people.

*before anyone comments* I may have suggested smallpox, but the difference was mine was a joke that i knew no one would go for. HR's position is the one that has us in the position we are now.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
It wasn't my position, it was the suggestion I posted that pretty much everyone agreed was a good idea, and I stand by. Perhaps if you hadn't thrown a hissyfit when you didn't get your way, people would listen to you more often. But you did, and they didn't, so get over it and look to the future rather than wasting time moaning about the past. We're in a situation, we need ideas to get out of it, not finger-pointing and inward time-wasting.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
So what's the situation? Any polls active?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
@HR- by everyone you mean the 3-4 people who were online because rather than set up a voting system (as your position entails) earlier in the day; you came on with 2 hours from the time the turn switched over and made a decision based on the input of 4 people. I did make a suggestion last month and so did TMOW and I agreed with his position as did a few other councilors and you completely ignored those opinions because they weren't online when you were. Like right now, I have no idea what we are voting for, half because I don't know whats already been decided by your gulag and half because there hasn't been a voting ballot in over a month. So while yes living in the past holds us back, learning from the past doesn't. And learning from the past, I see a HC who makes decisions with only the support of the minority, and pushes forward his own beliefs rather than finding compromise. (and yes, those were your beliefs as you were the FIRST person to suggest we stage a political coup). Now if someone *cough* the person who volunteered to do the job *cough* could actually organize our voting system instead of making last minute decisions based on the input of his supporters that would be nice.

Does the ship arrive at the beginning or end of month 6?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
That suggestion was made a lot more than 12 hours before. The thing decided at the end was the bribe for the elders - the divide and conquer strategy had been agreed on ages beforehand, and nobody disagreed, so I didn't make a poll.

I would assume at the end of the month, prado.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: The ship arrives at the beginning of the 6th month and leaves at the end of the 6th month.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate, I am going to be taking a leave of absence. This I will return back to the mainland with the ship. I will return however.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Will the pearls we earn in the 6th month be sent back as well? That's all we can hope for.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: Yes, any resources to be collected while the ship is in port may be used as the Council sees fit.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
HR, polls should be taken on every action the council wishes to implement.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
The Magistrate regrets to hear of Councilor Byron's parting.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
So we have two more months, that's fine for pearls.

Magistrate, roughly how many workers will the barrow equate to on pearl production?
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Direct 15 workers from wheat to pearls.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: A Barrow will increase production by around 5%.

Tasks
Assign Barrow to Pearl Harvesting
Recall the LT and have him defend
Offer Loyal colonists a position as Advisor
Give Loyal Colonists 5 bolts of Cloth and increased rations
Have the Mason build a Palisade around the Town Center
Assign 3 Wheat Farmers to Construction
Assign 15 Wheat Farmers to Pearls

Policies
Make it illegal for colonists not loyal to the King to approach buildings marked with a banner (PROPOSED)
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
So we're on 87 per month, how many do we need per month again? Is 15 the correct amount?
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Take fruit off the promise for the loyalists, and decrease the meat promise at least a little bit. We don't have the resources to uphold them.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I calculated what would get us to 1000 by the end of our quota, and without the barrow we would need 26 workers (for the consecutive months following this, so I hope we don't lose more workers) to just scrape by on that.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
