The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

Tasks
Assign Barrow to Pearl Harvesting
Recall the LT and have him defend
Offer Loyal colonists a position as Advisor
Give Loyal Colonists 5 bolts of Cloth and increased rations
Have the Mason build a Palisade around the Town Center
Assign 3 Wheat Farmers to Construction

Policies
Make it illegal for colonists not loyal to the King to approach buildings marked with a banner (PROPOSED)
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)

Ah yes, that'll solve everything. You and CB will be very happy together.

It is not worth fighting internally over. We are where we are, so let's make due from here.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
CB, we will have to come clean that we will be lean for a while, but we have the promise of success. If we build a palisade around the center of town this month, ones around the docks next month, and around the wheat farms in two months, the people will have no choice but to submit. We will poach them one at a time, but they will come in droves when they start to starve. We have to create a dependent state. All food must be processed and stored within our power.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
We should also think about delegating responsibility for certain things to speed the whole process up.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I agree with Hellenic, but it should ultimately be up to the Council.

We could have someone in charge of, say, building defenses, or the Alchemist and Missionary. But overall policy must be decided by the Council.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
A defence minister and a home secretary (to cover the advisers) would be good ideas. I'd nominate Cyrus for the former, as he seems to be very on point about the defensive system. Someone with a keen interest in what the advisors are doing would be suitable for the latter: TMOW has been particularly active in that department.

Naturally, other suggestions for delegation and delegates are open. I'll make a poll when we've come to a reasonable level of agreement.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
I like the idea of having advisers. Although I wish for them to be elected and elections to be run every time HC elections are run. We shouldn't allow this to become a non-democratic leadership bracket. If HR opposes this then I believe this was his purpose from day 1 of running for the HC position.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
I just proposed elections. Having all our elections at once will make that day a clusterfuck though, it would be better to space them out.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
It was his purpose. He told me so in PM. That said, he never said he planned on making this happen undemocratically.

I believe we should have a minister looking over the native workers themselves, focusing primarily on making sure their needs are met and that they remain both happy and, more importantly, loyal to the King, sort of like a workers' union without the needless lawsuits and holdups. Someone who is able to communicate their desires and happy to listen to their needs would be necessary for the position. I would love to take on the job but I agree that elections would be best.

I also think we should leave every vote that falls under multiple jurisdictions to all of the councillors as a whole, but if an issue falls specifically under one category and doesn't affect any others, we should feel comfortable delegating responsibility over that decision to the appropriate subcommittee.
mendax (321 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I give HR my support.

I support the proposal to create two posts, a secretary of defence and a home secretary.

I propose that future elections are run as a ticket of 3. For now until the next election, I support KC and TMoW in their respective posts, should they accept.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, I always suspected that in the long term, delegation would become a necessity. And how crowded we got at the end of yesterday has proven my suspicions correct. I like bo's idea of a representative for the loyalists, too.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
2 other positions is way too few. We need one to keep up relations with Elders and natives, one to keep Agriculture in check, one for meat, one for defense (as mentioned), one for other labor (like pearl farming), and one to keep track of resources.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Keeping track of resources is something all of us can do, and for now I'm not sure spinning off agriculture is a good idea. Once everything is running smoothly later, sure.

What was the Alchemist's Agriculture discovery?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Alchemist: I have made no discoveries this month; these things cannot be rushed. If I had a better educated population, I could have assistants for my experiments.
Wait, why are we losing councilors?
mendax (321 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Some voluntarily left.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I support the following positions:

Advisor Liaison
Defense Secretary
Native Liaison
Secretary of Labor

I think these positions may have to work closely. For instance, the Defense Secretary feels it vital for new fortifications, and must go the Secretary of Labor for them to assign workers. If that is agreeable, the SecL will give them to the SecD. If the SecL disagrees, it should be taken to the Council.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I am also willing to become the Secretary of Defense.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I would be willing to be Secretary of Labor. That's been the basis of the vast majority of my policy.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
I suggest a new role as well, Secretary of Infrastructure. This would fall under the lines of what buildings need to be built/fixed. Barns, docks, granaries, farms, etc.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Though I must ask, do we have any solid plan for what we're doing this month?
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
No, not really. I propose instituting a class system. Then we make our class, loyalists, much more wealthy than the other. And anyone who defects will be given the same treatment. The Elders will quickly lose support.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Somehow we need to get at least 12 more pearl farmers. I'll check and see what we need to reach quota.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
