Technical Issues in World Diplomacy Game
In http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=47406 it appears that the convoy feature is broken. Of the 4 players left in the game, 3 of us encounter errors when we try to submit orders to convoy a unit and are unable to access the feature.

Is there a way to repair this without breaking the game?

Explain why these moves work
Germany: F Sweden to Norway, A STP S F Sweden to Norway, F GoB to Sweden.
England: F Norway to Sweden (fail) (dislodged)

There was other stuff happening too, but the relevant question is: why did GoB succeed in getting to Sweden if Norway was going there too?

Thank you, finally! I had seen this coming ages ago and avoided his games. Trip and I had had a good private discussion about this one. He has just, presumably also been banned from a 200 D game, he was clearly building up points with Memilio, his other account.

A quick analisys of the last turns, sorry for any mistakes, I am in a rush:

1902 - Fall/Builds - 1903 - Spring

Some, interesting turnarounds in the last year. In the West, France and Germany finally started to work together and this could be the end for England. Swe could be still empty after 1903 and this is something we didn´t see that often.
In the East, Italy move against Austria is starting to pay back. Austria made some crucial mistakes and is another one that could soon vanish. The problem now is that there isn´t that many Austrian centers to three nations so probably one of them will be the next victim. Where the Sultan will go after Serbia and Greece are painted yellow is the key question on the East.

Individual Analisys

England - After taking Nor to have his first build I would expect a better diplomacy. With France and Germany moving after you why attack StP? Things are pretty desperate now with Germany on NS but there is stil hope if he can find an ally.

France - Finally get on the move, but I still don´t see France having the most gains on this England raid. But if the alliance with Germany keeps strong and with some sneaky moves France could be in a great position in a few years.

Germany - Germany give up a litte his try to SWE and put a fleet on NS and this is a great achievement for Germany. Now he can try again for Swe and will also have a good shot having all Scandinavia in a few turns. The alliance with France will keep his back at peace at least for now and the sun is shinning on Germany fields at this point.

Italy - Italy totally screwed with Austria. Convincing to convoy and also support the convoy from Alb to Bul was a great diplomatic achievement, but now is coming the key point, when the Turkey genius is coming out of the bottle (or the corner) and the I/T alliance will be tested.

Austria - I hope Austria have learnt some valuable lessons on the last turns. The first one is: if something looks like a stab it probably is a stab. Italy´s convoy into Alb instead of moving Ion to EM should have made all the red alarms to fire in Viena, but instead he commit three units to try to help Italy into Bul. Result? Two centers gone and a desperate situation. The best shot now for Austria is try to convince Russia that he is the next on the line and should ally with him. But even that could also be too late.

Turkey - The Sultan solid defensive play in the first years starts to pay back. Turkey took Ser and will probably take Gre in some turns, so the Turkey genius will be out of the bottle. Now he has to decide in which way he should move.

Russia - Russia is in a world of pain now. Both sides are going pretty bad. Swe is probably gone and Germany is moving after him, while England tried to get into StP. Trying to set an alliance with England is a must, but maybe it´s too late for both. In the south, things seems better, but Turkey fleet on BlS is a big problem and Austria will not live much longer to work as a buffer, so Russia needs to find an ally in the south quick and get in the move.

A lot going on and I am with little time to write.

Autumn 1903/Buils/Spring 1904

No big news on Autumn 1903, with Turkey having 2 builds and Germany and Italy one, while Austria lose 3 and will probably say goodbye. At this point we have two strong alliances (F/G and I/T) and theree lonely rangers that are going down.
The build look prety normal, Germany will head against Russia, Italy will move to take whatever left of Austria and Turkey will move to north.
And them came Spring and Turkey seems to have changed his mind and give up heading against Russia. The question now is, what will he now. Move to the Med or turn around again and take Russian centers before Germany does?
Also, the game has entered his middle and now is the time when the knives start to be sharpened. I expect to see some good stabs on the next turns....

Individual Analisys

England - Well, not working with Russia seems to be a huge mistake, France is advancing and without some help it will be only a question of time to elimination. Maybe Germany could be a last hope.

France - Finally the attack on England starts to pay back. Took one center and the others will follow. The question is, convoy one more army to make it faster or keep the armies close to home just in case....

Germany - Germany finally take Swe and is probably going to have War in the end of this year. But now is the point where he could have to choose between a solo try and making sure to have his part in a draw....

Italy - Italy got his build from Austria, but his position with a fleet on Adr isn´t that good. If he keeps Vie and were able to build again his position could consolidate. But Turkey move to Aeg could be sign of trouble ahead.

Austria - Little to say about Austria, he is heading for the elimination. Could try to offer his services as a mercenary unit to survive some more turns.

Turkey - The Sultan is growing. Give up a sure move to Arm in exchange of a convoy to Bul and a move to Aeg. Keep wondering if we will see a late Jugg now.

Russia - Russia at least get Turkey off his neck, but maybe it will be too little too late for Russia. He should have managed to work with England on the north to stop Germany. Now War is probably gone and taking Bud will not give him a desperate needed build.

Autumn 1904

Great turn. Like I said before the turn, I was expecting to see some good stabs. And I see some good ones, with England taking StP and Italy and Turkey making his alliance to win two over Russia. The poor one was from France against Germany, didn´t get a single center and if Germany and England ally we could see some changes on the West.
On the East, Italy and Turkey consolidate their position while Russia seems to be joining Austria on his way to history. Here I can make a comment about why not build another fleet on 1901 when you are Russia and have to cover a really big territory.
Austria is alive by accident, but I don´t believe Italy will let him survive more one year. Also, the I/T alliance seems impressive, and I wonder if both being experienced players help this to form. Anyway, we will probably see some more bounces here and there to keep it working.

I will try also to guess the builds/disbands.

Individual Analisys

England - Humm, England got StP and that could be really important in the end game to form a stalemate line, nice move. Also, with France moving on Germany, both should be offering something to get his help, so the pain could be coming away from the British Islands. An alliance with Germany seems more natural at this point, considering the situation on Scandinavia.

France - Sharpened the knife but the stab wasn´t a good one. With two builds this could have worked, specially if England and Germany have to disband, but now things aren´t looking that good to France. Anyway, Germany won´t be able advance quick with an army on Bur and a fleet on EC, even with England help. The key to decide the Western faith is where Italy will move after Austrian centers are gone?
France is the power with most options to build, all three home SCs are open and there is good reason to build in all of them, I would expect to see a fleet on Brest, even considering that a fleet on Mars with a previous communication with Italy could be better.

Germany - Germany take War, but it´s a little bit overstreched and France tried his luck. Supporting Bel was a good move and I think there is some signs of a E/G alliance forming on this turn, so I expect it to be even stronger on the next year. But like France, Germany faith is now in Italy´s hands I guess. Germany have a little option then building an army on Kiel this turn to try to block France advancing on Ruhr and Bel.

Italy - Italy got another build and Vie is almost sure for next year, so his position is really consolidated. Also, the alliance with Turkey seems solid and both have centers to gain. Now the question is where to move next. The usual in a I/T alliance is Italy moving to the West and Turkey moving north, but Italy´s armies are a lot closer to Germany...
Italy is another power with a lot of build options and his build will tell a lot where he is moving next. I would guess a fleet Rome.

Austria - Little to say about Austria again, but have to congrat him to be playing until the end, and could even stay alive longer then Russia.

Turkey - The Sultan keep growing. Good move to Rum and Sev will follow. Will have to discuss Mos with Germany, but Germany can´t hold it in the long run, and even War will be at reach too. The only think that can hold Turkey is the concern with Italy building fleets.. Turkey can also build on all three centers but I think an army build on Con is the most likely. A fleet build on Smy will not be unlikely, specially if we see a flet build on Italy too.

Russia - Russia is going down, losing three centers in one year for three diferent powers is a sign that diplomacy should have been done better. Also, I always think Russia start with too many fleets, so building another one on 1901 doesn´t help a lot too. In his defense, he tried to support England against Germany on Swe, but it´s probably too late. Russia disband won´t make much difference, but I guess Sev and Fin will be gone.

But I will wait for next turn moves before doing a full commentary. I am back from vacation, so I will probably be able to post commentary on each full turn now.
In your opinion professor, in this situation, where Germany is guaranteed to lose Belgium would it not be best for him to make some use of the unit, such as convoy it to York, rather than let it sit there and be dislodged?
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
28 Feb 11 UTC
I don´t want to make commentary about actual moves because it could be an unfair interference to the game.
Theoretically, if you have a position you can´t defend (and I am not telling this is the case) you should try to use it the best way you can, this could be moving, cutting a support or sometimes you just sit and wait to be dislodged considering the places you can retreat. Also, you have to consider that a spring move and a autumn move are different. In a Spring move you could lose the center but gain a better position to fight back in the Fall.

The Prince
Quotations taken from gradesaver.com....

Our friend Niccolo M. says that there are two possible power bases for a prince: the nobility, and the common people. But he goes on to say the following: “In fact the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles, since the nobles want to oppress others, while the people simply want not to be oppressed.”
