Averages
I'm curious as to the age of most people on this site, as well as to their general location (eg, country.)

I imagine that it's fairly widespread.

I gave up. He is either intentionally obtuse, or just plain stupid. Either way, he'll never get that bringing it to class not fitting means he broke either the on time rule if he broke it down first or the fits in the box rule if he didn't.

Yeah, you're probably right.

I just find the whole thing very weird. When I was his age, I would never go online and complain to strangers about my life. It's just very odd.

The Conservative Troll is diddling EVERY ONE of you, so-called, high-functioning adults.

It submits obvious self involved tripe as forum topics, just to see how many of you will be STUPID enough to respond to it.

As usual, every last one of you fools stumble all over the place in a vain effort to, somehow, educate it.

How does it feel to be a fourteen year old's toy?

Idiots......

@Conservative Child
Your stupidity is breath taking. If you are the second smartest in the class then I wonder whether the others have to be reminded to lift their knuckles off the floor.

The rules as quoted by you were:
· Bring your timing device to school on contest day in a standard cardboard file box (approx. 15" by 12" by 10").
· Your entire timing device, with all its parts and materials, must fit inside this box. The device does not have to be assembled inside the box – you will have time to assemble it when the contest begins.

I paraphrased this as: "The rule was to arrive with all the components inside a box of the specified dimensions."

You tell me what the difference is.
redcrane (1045 D)

CM THIS IS FOR SCIENCE OLYMPIAD DIVISION C AM I RIGHT.

Was this at state competition?
@redcrane: No, it was for class.
@diplomat: Those are two different rules. You can't paraphrase them into 1 rule. And do you know how I know that that rule isn't true/ My teacher let us try and make it fit, he just didn't let us disassemble it. If there had been a rule that said I wasn't allowed to disassemble it, I would have been okay with the penalty. But there wasn't. So how was I supposed to know?
@Abge: ""Your entire timing device, with all its parts and materials, must fit inside this box."

You agree that you failed at this, correct" No I did not fail that. The device was allowed to be unassembled in the box. Do you agree with that? My device, had I disassembled it, would have fit in the box. Do you agree with that? Now we arrive at your next argument: "As soon as you walked in the door, the contest had started. So, you had two choices: be out of spec (per the first bullet) or be late (per the second bullet) it seems that the second bullet is more severe, so being out of spec was the better option at that point. " The thing about that is, my teacher did something to contradict that argument: He let us try to make it fit. He wouldn't let us disassemble it, but he let us do pretty much everything else. So, do you agree that we could alter things after the contest began? If you agreed to that, then do you agree that if we could have altered things when the contest began, then unless there was a rule prohibiting disassembling the timer (which their wasn't) then it should be okay to disassemble the timer?
P.S. If you can show that what the teacher did does not contradict your argument, then I will admit I was wrong. Otherwise, I'm right.
"I just find the whole thing very weird. When I was his age, I would never go online and complain to strangers about my life. It's just very odd."
I have nowhere else to vent. And this is just venting. I was over the situation 2 days ago.
Draugnar (0 DX)

THere was no rule allowing disassembly, therefore you broke the rules. The teacher is under no obligation to grant you special dispensation. You incorrectly assume that because there was not a rule against your action that your action was acceptable. But the rules as you listed are clearly a set of things you can and/or must do. Therefore the rules of the competition limit you to only those things explicitely stated in the rules.

Epic fail and I'm done with this as you refuse to accept even the slightest responsibility for your actions.
@Draugnar: When the fuck did I ever say it wasn't part my fault? I consider it 25% my fault, 25% my partner's and 50% my teacher's.
Also: "THere was no rule allowing disassembly, therefore you broke the rules." That makes no sense. That's like saying: 'There was no rule allowing it to be made of wood, therefore any project made of wood breaks the rules.' There needs to be a specific rule disallowing disassembly.

@Conservative Child
"Those are two different rules. You can't paraphrase them into 1 rule."

Yes, they are two rules and I SUMMARISED them, I did not make a new rule. The intent of the rules is clear and you broke them, you attempted to negotiate an exemption which was rejected. The ruling was perhaps harsh, on another day it might have gone in your favour, but that is life. I doubt this is the first time that you have tried to wrangle your way through a rules violation and that probably influenced your teacher's decision. He is trying to teach you something. Listen.

You came to vent and you have got just about the biggest slap, practically unanimous too, that I have ever seen this board give. That is tough on you. My advice is give up on this because you are not going to change people's opinion on the subject.

I've been following this thread like a soap opera; fascinated by the arrogance and ignorance of youth and the incredible patience of the older and wiser (to whom, of course, true to type, CM does not listen).

As a pilot, it's fair, but I reckon we need a new angle to keep the ratings for next season (eagerly awaited, btw). But yes, keep the title 'Conservative Man'. It's really out of the ordinary . . .
Timur (673 D(B))

Though 'My science teacher (and my friend/partner's mom) is a stubborn asshole' did get a much higher rating in our recent audience poll. Get back to me, but, remember, if you send anything to me, make sure it fits in the damn box. The last 'Time Machine' you sent me was in bits.
Timur (673 D(B))

. . . that is, it self-disassembled in transit due to insecure packaging. We can talk about the ramifications at a later date.
@Diplomat: Typical. I stated 2 main things in my post to you. You replied to the one you could answer, and totally ignored the one you couldn't. So please, answer this: If my teacher allowed me time to make the project fit, which seems to contradict the 'rule' you posted above, why shouldn't I be allowed to disassemble the project? There was no rule specifically against that.
diplomat61 (223 D)
03 Sep 10 UTC
@CC: because I already answered it in a previous post.

My patience is at an end: you are the stubborn asshole in this. Several of us have tried to help you see the big picture but you are still whining about a rule that you broke and could not wriggle out of. If you behave like this in class your teachers must be saints. In this case your teacher is making a point about following rules as they are not as what you think they should be or can find a creative way of avoiding. But the best you can do is take 25% of the blame. Colour me unimpressed.
@Diplomat: When? Repost the answer if you've already posted it.
"I doubt this is the first time that you have tried to wrangle your way through a rules violation" No, this was the first time (as far as I can remember). I am a good person, and I only tried to not get penalized because I knew I was right.

You know nothing of the sort. You think, as a 14 year old brat, that you are right. But I and pretty much the entire board believes you are in the wrong. When I was 14, I thought I knew it all too and refused to listen to my elders. That changed when I failed my driver's test the first time for refusing to listen to every detail from the examiner.

There's a saying I learned long ago... If you have a rpoblem with persons A, B, C, and D, but they have no rpoblems on the subject with each other. The problem doesn't reside in A, B, C, or D, but within you.

why not just follow the rules, i see complaints like this all the time, "my teacher gave me a bad grade cause i forgot to hand in my paper, but it's really his fault etc"
i feel if you grew a pair and followed the instructions then you wouldn't have to complain on this forum that your teacher is an ass.
your complaint is like saying that your teacher told you to choose 1 of three answers a b and c. so you picked two of them cause you thought you were right, and now you're complaining when found wrong.
usually i find following directions especially when being graded on something pretty important.
diplomat61 (223 D)
03 Sep 10 UTC
@CC: you want me to read through the thread to save you the trouble? Tough shit kid I am not going to do it. You can wipe your own arse too. If you are really interested in learning you will read everything again. But I doubt you will.
@Akilies: I did follow the directions to the best of my abilities. I'm the type of person who has to see a rule say: "You are not allowed to disassemble the project once the period begins" to know that.

@diplomat: Are you really that fucking dense? This page was the first page that I posted that argument. Therefore your response must be on this page. I ckecked this page and did not find your response. So I asked you, because you would be able to find it easier, as you posted it.

@Draugnar: Don't ever call me a brat. You do not know me. If you went up to my mom and called me a brat, she would rip you a new one. By the way, my parents and all of my friends agree with me, and I'm planning on going on yahoo answers to see who they agree with.

"I have nowhere else to vent. And this is just venting. I was over the situation 2 days ago. "

"By the way, my parents and all of my friends agree with me, and I'm planning on going on yahoo answers to see who they agree with."

If all your friends and your parents agree with you, why is it that you claim that you have nowhere else to vent? Please go vent to your friends and your parents because we're all sick of hearing about it.

Sincerely,

The webdip community

Would people like to enter games with a list of prefered powers in order?
A recent poster said he did not like Italy, while that is my favourite. Oddly I dislike playing England and Turkey. Would this be hard to code?
