The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

I am absolutely against giving the Elders ANY gold. Under no circumstances can that happen. We must be the sole contact with the outside world.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Also, I think I introduced a plan for incentivising women and children working. We also need to make sure to separate "our" materials from "their" materials. Wheat, fish, and wood can be stored together. But tomatoes, apples, and game must remain the possession of the Councilors, unless we choose to reward the populace with it.
mendax (321 D)

I agree with KC - I can consent to giving the elders some ale, but definitely no gold.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, most people were against the gold.
KingCyrus (511 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
We also need to keep our resources separate. The colonists are used to being entitled to their resources. We need to make our resources a reward.

Year 1
Month 4

Magistrate: Council, I have completed the Tasks you have given me. The current state of WebDipia can be found on the Scroll.

Magistrate: The Elders are placated by your apology. They say it is a sign of true character to admit when you are wrong. They are not pleased by the counteroffer of one cask of ale in lieu of compensation for their Pearls and have refused to accept. They ask the Council reconsider their position. The Elders do not wish to serve as advisors at this time.

Magistrate: I have extended your offer to the Adults of WebDipia. It has created conflict between those who wish to serve the King and those who wish to remain loyal to the Elders. The Elders are offended you have made deals behind their backs; those remaining loyal to them will no longer work for you.

Captain of the Guard: Councilors, there is tension in the town. I advise the Lt be ordered back at once to make sure we are properly defended.

Magistrate: Those who have pledged fealty to the King are asking for the clothes and food they were promised.

Mason: I have finished a Barrow. I am currently idle.

Farmer: I am helping the colonists raise Chickens. The longer I help, the more productive they will become.

Policies
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate - considering that wasn't the offer that we should have made, I am not at all surprised. Once again, I repeat that we have to work with the elders, not against them.

Also, can we have an estimate on how many support the elders versus the King?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: Councilor bo, as indicated in the Scroll, 40% of the colonists have pledged fealty to the King.

When do we have a chance to bring in new workers from the mainland?
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
Tasks:
Depose the HC
Give a much better apology to the Elders with actual gold
Go back in time a month to fix how much worse this disaster has become
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
HR: Did you really think splitting up the workers was a good idea? We lost workers thanks to you, and now we are behind on EVERYTHING! And now you've made promises you can't keep. Congratulations on creating our end.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
We can still keep those promises. We'll simply have to make tradeoffs. We need to keep those loyal to us loyal and maybe some others will see the benefits. Once we break 50%, it might be easier to get where we need to be. That's our only option right now.
TrPrado (461 D)
24 Mar 15 UTC
The first thing we could possibly do is remove our responsibilities to those not loyal to us.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
We have them fighting amongst themselves, that's exactly what we need. They are divided, so they cannot unify against us. Now we bring the others back on side with the carrots. Have the natives loyal to the king choose 10 of themselves to lead them, give them royal seals, make them advisors. Give them their cloth and their food.

The other natives will be jealous. At this point, we offer them cloth from the upcoming ship in 2 months time if they get back to work. They have their carrot, and no gold to bypass us. We bring back the lieutenant, and we have the mason build a defensive stockade around the town hall. The Royal Guard protect us and protect the loyal townies. Small patrols check the loyal villagers and ensure they are safe. Every so often, larger patrols check over the other townies as a projection of force.

Some of the elders have already joined with the King, so even the elders are divided. We bring the current council of elders back, and have them name their price in cloth and ale. Tell them to be reasonable, or the loyal elders will replace them as a new council of elders.

Fighting amongst ourselves is dumb, we can pass on that.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
You have to think long-term, Councillor Prado. If we bend over to every demand they make, they will just continue to make more outrageous demands. We are the emissaries of the King, and his divine right to rule this land. Would he bend over to every demand some colonist made of him? I think not. We are his voice and we must act like so. Weather the storm and come out stronger.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
What if we don't have a long term? We have to meet our quotas, bottom line. This isn't cutting it.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
The King gave us six months to meet our quotas. We take advantage of that. As long as we have the quota on month six, we are fine.

Magistrate, can the barrow be used to increase pearl production?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
24 Mar 15 UTC
"maybe we should make it an option for the women and children to work. Say any women of children who wish to work will be compensated in extra food rations,or cloth. That way we get a few added workers and the elders can't complain about their people choosing to work. We should also offer the elders the meeting place and to fix any building or structure that the elders wish to have upgraded. Thus appealing their personal interests and letting them choose a place to be upgraded so they feel like they have a say, and can use the upgrades as a pork barrel policy to show the colonists. We shouldn't bring back the Lt and his band of guards, they should finish searching so we can get more knowledge, the alchemist should continue research into agriculture, and we should immediately begin administering our current 100 vaccines. This will accomplish: a safety net to help stave off disease, increase production from where it was last month without angering the people or elders, establish agricultural upgrades, and get us more information about the region we are in."- this would have left us in a much better position...... guess who proposed this..... oh yea.... me.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Mason: Without access to stone, the only defensive structure I can make is a Palisade.

Tasks
Assign Barrow to Pearl Harvesting
Recall the LT and have him defend
Offer Loyal colonists a position as Advisor
Give Loyal Colonists 5 bolts of Cloth and increased rations

Policies
Add new mothers (~80) to workforce and have the Elders watch over infants (REPEALED)
Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)

@HR- bending over to every demand is completely different from compromising with the ESTABLISHED governmental body. It would have been one thing if you held strong to not paying them and even limiting rations but to cause a flat out civil conflict was just asininely stupid.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
24 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate: Councilor bo, requests to the King may be sent back on the first trade ship to arrive.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
