The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

*to the magistrate without elders overhearing* could we request 500 colonists vaccinated for smallpox, a vial of the smallpox disease, and 500 more vaccines for smallpox.

I would like to have a back up plan in the event that this colony begins an uprising we can simply release the disease on the colony excluding 500 of our workforce and the 500 new colonists would act as buffer to combat the loss of upwards of 500 of our people. The elders would die before receiving vaccinations.

my above is a last ditch and only used if it appears all will be lost option.

@bo- they refused compensation. I already tried that and the elders simply want women to be home.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@magistrate- those 500 colonists would be 500 new colonists from the kingdom to come on the second shipment.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Yes, and we have to listen to them then. They're going to start holding up our production, as they have now, if we do something against their wishes. There's not much more to it.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
That is why I think we should pull back let them have women and children back. Otherwise we pay 1 gold per every god damn pearl.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Mar 15 UTC
Yes, we obviously should. We should pull back on everything. We should make them happy and let them have the power for the time being. There's nothing wrong in taking a cautious approach.

Missionary: I beg Councilor Byron to reconsider his rash plan. These are a peaceful people; to knowingly infect them with a disease would be a grave Sin.

Holy holy holy shit, CB. I missed that. Did you actually propose biological warfare?! FUCK. NO.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@Magistrate- If you follow through with acquiring the items for the "rash" plan and we need not use the smallpox virus, we will increase our population by 500, increase the health of our population by the 600 vaccines we would be able to administer. I see no negative in preparing.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@bo- I also proposed we get 500 new and vaccinated colonists and 500 additional vaccines.

Bo: They don't care about the mothers, they care about the children. That's why I want the daycare system. Speaking of which, if it's not too much to ask the pregnant mothers that WISH to participate in that to join, that would be wonderful.
CB: Which status quo? The one that put us down on wheat or the one that put us down on points.
Regarding the Elders, I've settled down and am willing to compromise. I want the apology issued and the idea that we may consult them as we need. In fact, if they could become part of our advisors, that'd be fabulous. However, I don't want the new mothers to stop working. Reassure the Elders that the health of the mothers will be watched over carefully and the young children cared for as necessary. I'm willing to give them gold coins, but not as many as they ask. I'm willing to give one for every point we currently have and for all the ones we will collect this much rounded down to the nearest gold coin (530 total). I'm just glad I thought for us to bring money out of our own pockets and that this doubled our gold.
TrPrado (461 D)
23 Mar 15 UTC
CB: That's more rash than any plan I could come up with when I was pissed at the Elders, damn.
Captain: Yes, call the Lieutenant back. I'm curious as to what he has discovered anyway.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@TrP- why would we pay them? that is literally setting a precedent that will just make it harder for us to manage. and since when did you become the last and sole decision maker? where is our voting system?

You literally just proposed unleashing a biological weapon in the event of an uprising.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

I agree with somewhat of what you are saying TrP but I think we would be better off increasing our production in other ways and NOT paying for the pearls in gold.

Recall the Lt of the Guard and have him defend the town

Lower the age of the workforce to 12 (ENACTED)
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@Bo- yes, okay lets ignore my request for the smallpox virus itself. and now talk about the 500 new colonists idea and getting vaccinations for smallpox, and cures for malaria on the next ship.

Also I agree with TrP about the LT coming back. However I am opposed to paying for the pearls.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@Tr ... they care about both the mothers and the children. It's inconceivable that they don't care for both. We asked them to take care of the children, which they are more than able to do, but they would rather that the mothers be able to take care of their own babies. This is perfectly reasonable in my mind, which is why I proposed lower hours in less energy-consuming positions around the island with breaks to see their babies throughout the day and extra compensation for their sacrifices. The fact of the matter is that they care about the children, obviously, but the mothers are half of the problem. We have to avoid that matter entirely for the time being and, as you said, issue a sincere apology, but we should not force the mothers to continue working. They should have the power over the matter until they settle down over it. At that point, we can talk compromise with them.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
Magistrate- what would the elders say about us making work optional for mothers and children and we do not pay them in gold for the pearls?

Yes, CB, new colonists need their vaccines. We might also propose a colony-wide vaccination plan so that our native diseases do not get transmitted and theirs do not affect us either. We should *not*, no matter how dire the circumstances get, unleash the pox on helpless people, especially a governing body. We should not rule by fear nor forget our morals, and I am glad that the missionary did his part in reminding you of that.
TrPrado (461 D)
23 Mar 15 UTC
CB: The precedent is not there. My plan hardly gives them lean. And I haven't been the "last and sole decision maker." I've just made a plan. You can choose to agree or disagree with it. Our voting system for the most been comprised of one of us telling an advisor to do something, then someone who disagrees throws a shit fit
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@bo- for me biological war is still on the table. I am just putting it on the back burner until it is absolutely necessary.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Magistrate: Councilor Byron, the Elders have made their demands clear. Perhaps the Council can agree on a formal counter-offer to be presented to the Elders.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
@TrP- so right now I think we should get one of those fancy polls going on the women in the workforce thing. Possibly have 2 questions on it: 1. Should we keep women in the workforce? 2. Should we pay gold for our pearls? if so how much?

you can make it if you wish. if not I will make it, just let me know.
TrPrado (461 D)
23 Mar 15 UTC
I'm willing to go with bo's less hours plan. I intentionally ran surpluses, so decreasing the production of those specific workers should not affect too much.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
*privately to the council, not even the magistrate or the nosy missionary* It is shit like the elders not wanting to simply answer my questions that makes we want to have the RG simply execute every single one of them.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
23 Mar 15 UTC
If the elders would concede the gold for pearls demand I am down with the less hours.
TrPrado (461 D)
23 Mar 15 UTC
CB: If Head Councilor Hellenic is not the one to make the poll (he's not online right now, so I don't expect him to do so immediately), then I say we depose him from his position. We have the power to do so.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
