Gunning for the Gunboat-3 Discussion
I don't think Turkey understands that this is a WTA game.
He gets nothing for letting Russia wins.
And I played poorly as Italy. I tried to stop the Jugger but France kept attacking me and not sending a fleet to safeguard the Ionian.

Why No in-game messaging?
Isn't the main purpose of "Diplomacy" communications? Why are there lots of games that specify No in-game messaging? Just curious. Unless the game is anonymous, I would be worried about lots of private communications.

Beginners guide to Gunboats?
So, I'm pretty intrigued by the idea of gunboats but I feel that there are a lot of nuances that are a little tough to pick up on the fly.
Anybody wanna give me a quick few points so I don't seem like an idiot on my first game?

I would love to also do an exact re-enactment of the 2nd round where Babak pulled off the win. I would like to volunteer to play as Babak and have him explain to me his reasoning and persuasion that he used. I think I would learn a lot.
How about 100-200 pts buy in WTA? :)

Crazy, the link abge posted (pw: boston) is the only reunion game up right now.
We are going to do a final table rematch, but it wont happen for some time, and I agree not being able to play half the participants was sad. Next tournament needs to be a week long! Get in this game so we can at least pretend we're playing FtF.

One comment on Seattle WAC Con versus Boston webdippers. Seattle was so much more intense and so much more anger going around. As people noted, our tourney was very good natured, everyone rolled with the punches and had fun regardless of if the knife was in their back or in their blood stained hand. I think the difference is that us webdippers are pretty much used to stabbing and getting stabbed most every day of the year since we play multiple games at once, we know what comes around goes around and it's not too big of a deal. With the people that only play F2F, they have much more on the line since they don't play too often, so the stabs hurt much more.

I'm sad we didn't get a group shot of everyone. Why didn't we think to do this? We had the perfect backdrop!
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@MM

I noticed the same think at the F2F Tournament I attended. Very skilled players, but much more intense and angry.

I think you bring up a good point that we get many more games in, so we may be desensitized. But, I think we were also just very excited to play with people we've known for so long without meeting, so the results of the game were secondary to just playing.

I went to the Boston Massacre one year and am not too eager to go back. Somehow I just didnt enjoy those people. So I confess I was expecting more of the same from you guys. I tried to tell myself that you guys are fun on the web but thats just a fantasy. WOW I was so pleasantly surprised-what a fabulous bunch of human beings you all turned out to be!

(I tried to give that example above about this one annoying FTF guy, as a contrast )

Good, very good. I was nervous about how eager you were to see my picture, but as you can see, its not that exciting. So I'm relieved we can move past that now.

So what did the non-webdippers think of this tourney?

By the way, I believe this is the correct image of the final position of the Round 3, Board 1 game
http://i.imgur.com/lSuaG.jpg (which is #982 from my set)

Abgemacht posted #978, which appears to be the position right after spring 1908. Note that the French army in Pied was convoyed to London as Babak tried to give TheWizard as many SCs as possible in the final fall 1908 turn. All games were over at the end of 1908 by rule.

The 3 F2Fers came back for Sunday, so that's a good sign. Both Alex and Neil seemed to have a great time. I didn't get a chance to talk to Maxwell.

I must say, seeing the pics, it was strange but pleasant to see a much younger crowd than what I anticipated. I had assumed that those that were going to show up would be retirees or college-aged. Wish I coulda been there. I'd love to eventually set one up for the Kentucky area but if there's another one next year in the Boston area around the same time, I'll be sure to put the time into my schedule.
Draugnar (0 DX)

We can try for a midwest one, Tru. What part of KY are you in again? Was it Lexington or Louisville? We probably have enough people within a couple hours of Cinci, Indy, or Louisville to set one up.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

@Draug

I was thinking Chicago would be a great place to try. They also have a big F2F crowd to help fill in the gaps, like in Boston.

Would anyone ever consider Montreal as a possible location for an East-Coast Tourney? We have a few players here on WebDip that are based in Mtl, and I don't believe it would be hard to put together. Let me know!
Babak (26982 D(B))
14 Jun 11 UTC
I have lots to add and will do so as soon as I get time =/

But another idea is for us to join one that is already being organized maybe... DC does a great tournament every OCT and it would be great if we had 20 webdippers
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jun 11 UTC
The windy city would be great too. It's just that driving in Chicago is, well, have you ever heard of a Mongolian Cluster F*ck? The drivers in Chicago are confused by the fact that we drive on parkways and have turned them into parking lots. I really hate driving in downtown Chicago.
