Drama Queen Rating
I request the dev's to program this rating in each profile. I'd rather not play with people who have a high drama queen rating. I dont' care how it's implemented.

FDR, Reagan, and Rushmore.....?
Another 4th of July gone, and before the feeling of patriotism gives way to cynicism about my government TODAY (Palin resigning, and she wanted to be VP... sad) a question about the titans of YESTERDAY I've wondered for a bit-

Would you consider adding to Rushmore Reagan, FDR, both, neither, maybe a "new" Rushmore somewhere else.......?

Best Computer Game of All Time
I know we have a large (larger than average) adult population on these boards, and many probably don't play that many computer games, but if you do, what are your favorite games of all time?

Man, you guys make me want to play video games so much now. The only one I really play consistently now is Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and I'm getting pretty good at it. You guys should try it out, it's a free FPS that just has to be downloaded. It's not the most realistic thing, and it doesn't have the greatest graphics, but the gameplay is so fun. Also PC FPS are far superior than console FPS though I also used to play the Halo and CoD series.

Morrowind was a great game, and the best part was all the custom player-made plug-ins that added so much to the game. Truly a sandbox adventure.

I've definitely spent my fair share of hours playing the Civilization series, but one aspect always bothered me... If I got a really good start, then no AI would ever catch up to me... If I didn't get a good start in a good area, then I'd forever be playing the middleman when it came to technology, unless somehow, I ended up with all the rubber in the world. I suppose it somewhat demonstrates the phenomenon of geopolitical determinism with respect to the success of civilizations and goes to show that it's not some racial superiority... but it made for a fairly predictable game. I never did play online because it seemed that it would take too much time to play a full game in one sitting.

Final Fantasy VIII was my favourite of the FF series, but probably because it was the first that I played. I also really liked the Final Fantasy Tactics games which are my favourite turn based tactical games that I've played.
"PC FPS are far superior than console FPS"

I assure you that isn't true. *Everything* is great at 150 inches. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptrR2IzzzNE

I'm a big fan of Front Lines: Fuel of War on the 360, basically the only multiplayer FPS I actually like. It wasn't very popular but the graphics are good, the teamwork works without voice chat (the most annoying feature of the century), the maps are large and interesting, the units are varied... good game. And I think it's cheap now, too.

I finally figured out how to describe what I think about Real Time Strategy games. RT+S annoys me in the same way that it annoys me when book stores group fantasy with sci-fi. Talk about a complete mismatch...

NPRZ, the mouse and keyboard combo is way better than a console controller. I've played both extensively. Also, you can hook up computers to your TV, or just get a nice screen if you want. HD is only new for TV, it's been around for PC gamers for the longest time.

150 inches? Pfft. I used to play Halo on the big lecture hall screens in college, they must have been at least 240" minimum, probably more like 300+.

That said, while Halo 1 on the XBOX is the only FPS I've ever truly enjoyed, keyboard/mouse is definitely superior control input.

Keyboard/mouse all the way.

I don't understand all these FPS's developed for consoles. Sports games are great on console, but FPS's are awful.

"150 inches? Pfft. I used to play Halo on the big lecture hall screens in college, they must have been at least 240" minimum, probably more like 300+."

Haha, I've done that too. Movies are great, as is just playing music on the sound system after you sneak into the largest lecture hall in the McGill University campus on 4/20. =D

I attribute Halo's success firmly in the fact that it was really the first console FPS that had a good multiplayer, and multiplayer is the real way to play FPS, and so they captured the audience of all the people who hadn't really played online FPS's before. If you played FPS' on the computer before Halo, you probably already played online and Halo wasn't as big a deal. At least, that's the theory I just came up with.

I haven't read all of this, but I think friendly sword got it right :p

Kotor 1+2, baldurs gate 1+2 and tie fighter for me.. Probably xwing alliance is really close there as well. 100's of hours spent on each of those :)
Chrisp, one of the computers runs to the projector as well. Before I gave up on PC gaming, I was doing the 3-way large-LCD multi-SLI thing. But I got tired of the hardware-upgrade-grind.

Macavenger, they certainly do come in larger sizes (we used to run the pj at 200" before I actually bought the screen, but it's too large at a 17' seating distance) but I'm betting the lecture hall didn't have a 5-keg fridge and leather couches (FTW). :)

"I'm betting the lecture hall didn't have a 5-keg fridge and leather couches (FTW)"

No, but it did have a very nice little campus food place open for midnight snacks, very good sub sandwiches, and drinks within 2 minutes walk, so that was pretty good too.

I'm also betting you didn't have 3 screens that size in one room so you could have 12 player games where everyone could yell back and forth at each other. :D

This might have been mentioned already, but Victoria is a very fun game to play. It's made by the same people who did Hearts of Iron, although it's pretty different. In fact, it's no fun at all if you don't cheat, but the idea of being able to shape the world between 1836 and 1920 appeals to me a lot.

I don't have it on my laptop at school just so I make sure I can get my work done. Of course I usually just end up here.
No, not 3 screens THAT size... but 80" pj's in two other rooms. :)

@rlumley - Why do you besmirch the MMORPG as not being an RPG? I grew up with D&D and Gamma World and I have played plenty of MMORPGs that really got the feel down. WoW even has servers that are "in character" only. In other words, no normal chatting. You are required to stay in character on all online communication. As far as rolling up characters, WoW is a bit more limited, but CoH/CoV has a nice character generator where you roll 'em up, pick a basic hero type, and really cusotmize the look of your character. And I've seen some games that took the character customization to real extremes.

Fable 2 isn't an RPG, it's a fantasy game. There is a difference. If you don't interact with other people and don't take on the persona of the character in so doing, it isn't RPG.

I spent hours upon hours playing Carrier Command on my ST in the mid-90's. Could never win it, though.
@Jamiet99uk - No, I never won either, but then my carrier couldn't sail across land and had a limited top speed, whereas the enemy carrier had no such restrictions.

@ Draug: MMORPGs are not RPGs. In MMORPGs, the game is about building up your character so you can beat other people. In RPGs, the game is about (building up your character so you can) finish the story.

The story in almost all MMORPGs is worthless. All the story is is walk here, shoot these people, walk here, shoot these people. No intelligence is required to do that. RPG's require some level of intelligence in solving puzzles, etc.
Draugnar (0 DX)

@rlumley

You are so wrong about MMORPGs. Not all of them are about beating up other people and many involve epic quests and puzzle solving as well. I play WoW in purely PvE mode with a group of friends where running a dungeon involves teamwork and communication.

Also, RPG stands for Role Playing Game. What in that requires puzzle solving? Have you ever played Dungeons and Dragons (Gary Gygax's original pencel, paper, and dice RPG )? None of his premade modules ever had a puzzle to solve. Typically, you'd go find Object A to get into Object B which might contain Object C that was needed to kill Character E (the boss). The same thing is done every day in WoW and CoH/CoV. And DAoC had real puzzles to be solved where you couldn't just run around and collect everything. Instead, you'd discover that while all the items were needed for the final quest, they had to be gathered in an unspecified but very particular order because some were needed to get the next item.

@ Draug:

No MMORPG I've ever played is about roleplay.

And you're right about RPGs and puzzles. I'll rephrase my statement. Good computer games require some level of intelligence in solving puzzles, etc.

You've been playing the wrong games then. Try WoW and play on one of the RolePlaying only servers. Everyone really gets into their character.

I'm a lumper when it comes to RPG's, though I keep sub-categories of RPGs. I would label WoW, Fable 2, KOTOR, and the Final Fantasy series all as RPGs. Some RPG's are more RP than others.
