Opposite Gender Friends leads to Lower Academic Performance
Interesting paper I'm reading right now. Not completely done with it, but its methodology seems sound.

Hi I am new, quick question
I am starting a game with some friends, can you play with less than 7 people? If so, is anything different compared to a full game? Thanks :-)

Nah ghug, I'm not setting myself up for some lurking master plan. Honestly, have I done anything even remotely like that in all of our games? It's just not my style. At the time of my post, I legitimately had no suspects, and I figured I'd toss a no-lynch as a sort of role-play addition. Star Wars is sort of one of my things.

I'm not interested in creating some crazy bullshit-based wagons on D1 though, and if I think all the stuff looks like bullshit, I'd much rather vote no lynch than that lynch.

I still don't get the potential benefit of Flum's whole ENDing plan. It casts unnecessary suspicion on more people and limits our active time. We can't all be watching the game 24/7, so people shouldn't be expected to be watching and reacting to wagon shifts anyways.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
22 Jul 15 UTC
@Chaqa Can you elaborate on why you "wanted to get a vote in" with the no lynch vote? I understand my reasons, but I didn't really get why you joined me. I disagree with your statement regarding the value of WHO and HOW the D1 lynch happens, because the how is only useful in the context of the who, and if the who is innocent, it's only likely to be useful very late in the game.

Knowing your perspective on preferring to play the later game-states, I kind of understand what you're getting at, but it almost comes across as "kill anyone you want as long as it's not me."
Okay, not much has happened so far, aside from Chaqa and some votes for Warden (though I'm sure more will have happened by the time this is finished), and despite the whole "talking about PRs is a scummy thing, let them do their thing", I'd like to make a few comments on what I think of the roles and probably some advice for the town to use/catch them. Let us begin:

TOWN:

"Medium:
You are Emperor Palpatine, Dark Lord of the Sith! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night you may use your dark side mastery to open a portal to the netherworld of the force to commune with the dead: <Quick Topic thread link>. You may only speak with the dead during the night phase, and if you are jailed you will not be able to communicate that night. You win once all mafia and the Bounty Hunter have been eliminated."

While it initially may seem to be a week role, it has a tremendous upside, when our good members get fear NK'd, they aren't done. So say the mafia is afraid of PE (this is hypothetical of course), and kill him night 1, well night 2 you are able to be privy to all of thoughts, who is mafia, why he was killed. Second if a separate PR has some big information but were unable to share it (probably due to an NK), you can get that information. Third, you can't be rb'd by the mafia so you only need to fear getting killed. However, remember to take everything with a grain of salt, much of the other players are prone to biases, but hopefully you can use their advice and arguments to seal the town victory. Just try to stay out of the mafia's sights until you have something useful (like most PRs).

"Enforcer (Cop):
You are Darth Vader, Enforcer of the Empire! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night you may select one player. At the end of the night, if the player you sensed with the force is Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi, you will get a PM saying you sensed the light side. You will sense the dark side when targeting the Bounty Hunter or any other town role. Han Solo has ninja capabilities to mask his light side and seditious activities. You win once all mafia and the Bounty Hunter have been eliminated."

Basically the cop but slightly weaker since it can't pick up the third party. Not particularly strong, but if you can find a light side member, you are golden. Since the jailor will target high priority targets, you should target lower priority people that will likely live on. After all, those are the trickier people to read. Try to make sure you are well established with the town as you are a likely to be counterclaimed near lylo, lurking would not be very helpful if this happens.

"Mayor:
You are Grand Moff Tarkin, Governor of the Outer Rim Territories! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night you may choose to PM the GM if you wish to reveal your Governor status the follow day. The GM will reveal your role at the beginning of the next day phase. This reveal is a one-time ability, but if it is roleblocked it does not count as being used. After you have revealed you receive two extra votes for a total of three votes in each lynch phase. You win once all mafia and the Bounty Hunter have been eliminated."

Very powerful role, but only in the end game. The nerf to the jailor makes an early claim a not so good idea, but if you two can make it to the mid/late game you stand a good chance of turning a hopeless situation into a town win. Much like medium, stay out of the mafia eye. Your role is made especially powerful by the fact that you can't be counterclaimed. Still, be very sure of yourself before revealing, if you don't think you have a large portion of scum pegged, you can cost the town the game just as easily as you can win it.

"Jailor:
You are IT-O ISB Droid, Jailor for the Empire! During the day you make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the day phase you may PM the GM an individual you wish to jail for the night phase. You cannot jail yourself. The player will be roleblocked during the night phase from all actions, and will not be able to post in any QT (mafia or medium). Any night actions targeting the jailed player will fail. You win once all mafia and the Bounty Hunter have been eliminated."

Very interesting role here, your top targets for this will be a revealed mayor who is at risk of dying and good townie players. However as the mafia is whittled down you may want to consider targeting scum players as you can prevent them from killing anyone if down to one and if the bounty hunter has started killing, you can do the same to him. So really, early on you should target town, later on use your power to clear town/find scum.

MAFIA:

"Roleblocker:
You are Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, and rebel against the Empire! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night, you may talk to your mafia partners, and choose who to roleblock. Your mafia partners are <Mafia Member C>, Luke Skywalker, and <Mafia Member B>, Han Solo. The target of your roleblock WILL be notified that they have been roleblocked. You may choose not to roleblock anyone. If no other mafia members are able to kill during a night phase (through being dead or jailed), you will be able to make the kill that night, but will not be able to use your roleblock ability. You win once the Bounty Hunter is dead and either all of the town players are dead, or nothing can stop you from eliminating all of the town players. You may use, and must submit night actions to this QuickTopic thread: <QuickTopic thread link>. "

Now a classic role, but I feel it is a bit weaker. Sure they may be able to prevent a mayor reveal or a copscan, but I'm not sure how their role affects eithe the medium or jailor. Regardless, it can be a strong role if they are good at finding certain power roles. Wouldn't be surprised if they decided to lurk a bit.

"Ninja:
You are Han Solo, Captain of the Millennium Falcon, and rebel against the Empire! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night, you may talk to your mafia partners, and choose on who to kill. Your mafia partners are <Mafia Member A>, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and <Mafia Member C>, Luke Skywalker. As a smuggler you are able to avoid suspicion and appear as dark side aligned if scanned by the Enforcer. You win once the Bounty Hunter is dead and either all of the town players are dead, or nothing can stop you from eliminating all of the town players. You may use, and must submit night actions to this QuickTopic thread: <QuickTopic thread link>. "

If there is going to be a mafia in the center of attention, this one may be it. They need to appear townie regardless. The other ones may be able to risk something to push the scum agenda, but the only way the ninja goes down is by good detective work. Be very careful of this one.

"Mafioso:
You are Luke Skywalker, a Jedi, and rebel against the Empire! During the day you may make an accusation against someone; the candidate which reaches a plurality will be executed at the end of the day. During the night, you may talk to your mafia partners, and choose on who to kill.. Your mafia partners are <Mafia Member A>, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and <Mafia Member B>, Han Solo. The enforcer will sense you as light side aligned. You win once the Bounty Hunter is dead and either all of the town players are dead, or nothing can stop you from eliminating all of the town players. You may use, and must submit night actions to, this QuickTopic thread: <QuickTopic thread link>. "

Basic mafia, not much to say here aside from look for scumtells.

"INDEPENDENT

Bounty Hunter:

You are Boba Fett, Mandalorian Bounty Hunter! You start the game with no special abilities, but by getting players with bounties on their heads lynched, you will be able to get new equipment, unlocking abilities.

Your bounties are <Player A>, <Player B> and <Player C>.

If one of these players is lynched you will gain armour, and be immune to nightkills.

If two are lynched you will gain a blaster, which gives a kill you can use once each night phase.

If all three are lynched you will gain a disintegration ray, which will stop the GM posting the role of the player you kill in the thread (you will receive it via PM).

The enforcer will sense you as dark side aligned. You win by surviving to the end of the game and being the last player alive."

The most interesting role and the one I know the least how to play with or against. My guess is this person is going to just wait in the shadows and jump on bandwagons that have their bounty hunter. To actually win they have to lynch two of their candidates, so if we can find the targets (though more likely the mafia since they can NK them) they can be NK'd to avoid being used against us. However, I have no idea how we'd do so.

So what do you guys think?
tvrocks (388 D)

I think that the bh, if being played by an active/ good player such as p.e., has a lot of potential to become really powerful. They will actually probably try to remain active and may even lead, or at least start, a discussion on one of their people.
I didn't read any of that because I know it was just role analysis and not scumhunting.

Don't make me vote you

Great news guys. I'm the Mayor.

I know some of you will be thinking "what the fudge" and some of you will be screaming it at your, now broken, computer screens. But, I think the right thing to do is to reveal myself early. I haven't taken this decision lightly and I'm convinced it's the right thing to do.

My problem is that I'm the greatest player and most likely to be fear killed and, if not protected, the town will lose a PR on N1. I can't allow that to happen. The strength of the Mayor comes from giving town at least 1 town led lynch, even if it's wrong. This prevents scum manipulation.

I'm aware that this sets up a battle of wits with mafia and jailer. I'm placing trust in Jailer to do the right thing.

My vote is for ##voteWardenDresden - people who say 'honestly' are always lying. Lying = scum. Get on board my humble subjects.
I like it

If Maniac isn't mod-confirmed town d2 then policy lynch him. Until then he is confirmed town
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

Can we vote to depose Maniac? I really want to.

I would follow Maniac's lynch, but I think Vash made a pretty suspicious post. He made it look like he was contributing, but all he did was rehash the role's skills in the most basic way.

##VOTE Vash
"I didn't read any of that because I know it was just role analysis and not scumhunting.

Don't make me vote you:"

Yes, because developing a strategy for how to use our roles best will definitely not benefit the town, and doing so when most of the content of the thread is a bunch of bullshit is definitely not a time to do it. *end sacarsm*

@PE: Scumhunting is only useful when you have something good to work with, and discussing things like PRs is a good way to start it off, especially when there are new ones.

Well, speaking of the "most interesting role" how are you so certain that's how the role will work? (If I missed something from a pre-game discussion, someone let me know.) How would it even be possible for town to learn the targets without already knowing the BH? Even if we knew the targets, how could that help town? If we learn that [Lynched player X] was a target, then we might be able to use that information to help narrow down a BH suspect pool, but that's about it. And none of that will be useful until later in the game.

#CALL GM Do we receive any sort of specific notification of whether a person lynched was a bounty, or do we have to wait for noticeable effects to know for sure? Does Fett get any of bonus if his targets are nightkilled? Does he get new targets if not?
@Flum: Why did you vote me anyway?
ND (879 D)

Seriously, Maniac? You honestly think that the word "honestly" is an honest-to-god tell that someone is being dishonest? I honestly just use the word "honestly" occasionally. Honest.
Fluminator (1500 D)
22 Jul 15 UTC
Because you're my number one scum read right now.
@WD: Like I said, I have no idea how it would be done, but if someone figured out a way, well, the mafia would probably target a town bounty to steal a kill from the BH.
@Flum: Why? I have like four serious posts to my name and you voted looooooooong before that.
Maniac (189 D(B))
22 Jul 15 UTC
@ pres - why would I PM the GM night 1? Either jailor is going to jail me or he isn't. Either way I don't want Mafia to know if I've been role-blocked. I want to keep those mothers guessing.
Maniac (189 D(B))
22 Jul 15 UTC
@warden - yes I think 'honestly' is a supertell. In fact whenever someone at poker table says 'honestly' I always ascribed the opposite meaning to his statement and act accordingly. I've made $$ following this supertell, it's reliable.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
22 Jul 15 UTC
RE: Maniac I think I have to agree with PE about him being effectively (if temporarily) confirmed town. Scum Maniac has little to gain from making a mayor claim other than trying to force a real mayor into a counterclaim, which would be unnecessary for the mayor to do (if Maniac is fake) and basically waste Maniac's scummy life.

It's possible Vanilla Maniac would make this move if only to help increase the chances a real mayor would survive early on. And it's possible Maniac is indeed Governor Tarkin choosing this strategy.
Fluminator (1500 D)
22 Jul 15 UTC
I think you just answered your question Vashta. I gave you a reasonable amount of time before voting. ;)
To do what, do another post that means absolutely nothing? It takes a looooooooong time for anything serious to be posted Flum, and honestly I had other things to do.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
22 Jul 15 UTC
Well, I figured I'd take a look at my usage of honestly you ascribe to my lying scum nature. I used it in a question directed at ghug about how I play the game. Then I say the sort of uber-deep plans he's insinuating I'm making aren't my style. You've played with me. Is that a lie?

I'm really just not seeing what you're getting at.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))

* As I post the above, Vash uses "honestly" to defend himself from Flum. That's all kinds of funny.
Man Vash is pretty mafia too.

y2k / Vash good starting place. Maniac is town hero. I am town Jesus. Chaqa is that neighbor kid's Jack Russell Terrier that's moody when you don't approach him how he likes but way too adorable to lynch.

I'm going to sleep, I will try to post more pure town goodstuff tomorrow. Nite.

So the people who make the schedules at my school are kinda dumb. I signed up for both AP Micro/Macroeconomics and AP European History. Only one class of each is being offered. I really don't know, so what (preferably AP) course would you suggest for me to take instead of AP Micro/Macroeconomics (because there's no chance I'll drop Euro)?

Hi everybody, I'd like to ask if anyone has experience with an account getting a certain country every single game. One of my friends who I've played in several games against has drawn Germany out of the pot every single time. We're onto the fifth time out of 5 games he's gotten Germany.

I'd put it up to chance but we've reached 5 sigma and are on our way to 6. Thoughts?
