@ssorenn: i think this is quite different. draug, as you said, threatened to attack this site, which is certainly a banworthy offense. i'd like to see him back, but i understand if the mods won't allow that. putin however, for what i know, simply didn't want to tone down his rethoric on the forum. that doesn't sound ban- but rather silenceworthy for me.

i do understand that this isn't a democracy, and i will respect putin's ban if that is the mods' final decision. i just want to understand why they didn't silence him but ban him instead.

Whoa there Jumbo I don't think taking the mickey out of someone is a sign of disrespect, I do it all the time but I have absolute respect for all of the Mods and the work they do, are you trying to say humour and respect are mutually exclusive and never the twain shall meet?
Please don't make this a place where people can't type anything for fear of being censored, this is a forum, not a convent and surely it just needs some grown up thinking. The Members aren't nuns, they are real people.
Please don't paint me as the pantomime villain, I am trying to guide you through the fog. You know when there was only one set of footprints in the sand, that is when I was carrying you.....

As I said Nigee, we welcome "guidance through the fog" but not if people aren't willing to respect us enough to do it in the way we asked. See my last post for an explanation as to how to best contact us. And please don't put insinuations in my mouth. I said you're welcome to be as rude as you want to us, just that you shouldn't expect a reply or respect in return. No threat of censorship there "my friend".

But Jimbo if we do it through PMs you don't get any +1s and you know from previous discussions how vitally important that is to me :-)
I'm not really giving guidance at all, just taking the mickey 'cos I like you, I hope you can respect our cultural differences because us Brits have a laugh with our mates, either with them or at them.

Sorry, but I have no interest in having a conversation with someone who just admitted they are more concerned with +1 trolling then in respecting the site and the way we ask members to contact us. If you have comments you want taken seriously you know our email address. Until then I'll run with the assumption everything you post is more "laughing with our mates".

come on James, remember you accused me of just writing stuff to get +1s in a PM you sent to me and I had to explain to you I was an adult and that you were speaking nonsense, how quickly some of us forget, so far from +1 trolling I was reminding you of your disappointing comments, no +1s needed here mate, by your own words may we know you.

It's a fine line between having a sense of humor and thinly veiled insults. When the adults are having a serious conversation, adopt the proper tone.

I'm not being a dick lando, I am working on getting members to respect the way the moderator team is reforming handling the forum in a way that will help us provide a fun site to play diplomacy on. I am completely serious when I say that any feedback is welcome, but as I explained on the last page it is important to get members to contact us via email with concerns. That is the method members have to provide feedback. It is up to them to decide whether to utilize it or not.

I'm even willing to have pm conversations with people who are concerned if the email doesn't work for them for whatever reason. But I'm not willing to have the forum be full of member vs mod mentality flame wars. That hurts everyone here and it has to end.

And if I recall correctly, you are one of the people who has called me out for being sarcastic in the past. You were right then, sarcasm and humor is hard to convey online, and people who chose to use it run the risk that others will not think it's funny. That same advise applies here as well, I find the "humor" to be constant and berating insults across dozens of threads. Just doesn't come across as funny, adult, or respectful to me.

"This is wrong, most of the people you are assuming this about have been warned or silenced for abusive posting."

Come on, don't be dense. I'm not Putin33 and am not claiming that he was "singled out" unfairly. My point is that at the end of the day Putin33 is currently banned while many of the others are not. (I couldn't care less about short Forum silences.) My concern with this situation stemmed from how Putin33 had a different history and motives than the others, but you seem to understand this already.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

I think this whole situation is ridiculous. It's a Diplomacy website with a forum, not a forum that happens to have a game built in. All game-related things come first, and the forum should be an afterthought. It's a lot of fun sometimes, but we're devoting way too much energy arguing about it.

Simple rules for forum moderation:
1. No real-life threats, or threats to the website
2. No personal attacks
3. No racism

There. Solved.

major case of ADD / TL:DR on my part but after a quick skim what I got out of these rules is 1) this site is about diplomacy the game and 2) dont be an asshat? If i am correct about this, does this mean that the mods will be held to the same standard?

I will openly admit that I am not that active of a user on this forum, nor am i the most active player but in all honesty I am shocked at how completely out of hand some of the threads are and in all honesty I've seen the mods involved / antagonist in some of those threads. If you are looking to truly create a "world class experience" as what was said, you are going to have to look internally as well as externally. I welcome these changes, but given the level that things are currently at its going to take quite a bit of work and some increased maturity on the part of the staff as well as the members.

There's a certain sense in which a lot of people are here for the drama. If you successfully purge all of it, many will find it boring and leave. I mean, it's yours to do with as you will, but maybe you haven't seen it this way before, as a choice between interesting vs. professional-looking.

I'm not really questioning your intentions Jmo, because I know they're clean. I'm just observing what I see happening.

Here's a question though: all these changes started while I was off the grid in Jamaica. Did anyone ever say why they were actually necessary? Was there a huge dip in new user registration? My impression is that the site has always been continuously growing. The games side seemed totally fine, notwithstanding a few minor tweaks that zultar mentioned. Was it really just a few hurt feelings on the forum that convinced zultar and whoever else that the site needed to be "saved"? Saved from what? What's the motive? You say you want webdip to be a first rate place to play diplomacy online. Isn't it already?
Mapu (362 D)

You know what .... if you're here to play diplomacy you don't care about the nonsense on this forum. I came here to play diplomacy and played loads of games in my first year on here, I don't play a lot of games now as life is catching up with me and I'm mad busy with the football coaching, the day job and building a kids safe play place. There seems to be a number of people on here that play very little and just come to the forum, nothing wrong with that as long as you are just not abusing people all the time, even when Krellin and Draug went on rants they came and went and we moved on. Of course I agree we should not pedal racism or homophobia or threatening behaviour, etc, etc but most of it was just grown-ups insulting each other for one reason or another, not totally sure why but people who really come here to play Diplomacy can pretty effectively ignore the forum, especially if you're playing 2 or 3 live games a night.
Some times I would sign in just to see the latest abusive rant, it can get addictive. Now it has just become a nanny forum with the Mods continually trying to tell us what they think is acceptable behaviour, half of us are on here so we are not being nagged at and dictated to, etc, etc. If that is the case then how annoying is to keep being told how naughty you are, or how unfunny you are, or how non-supportive you are of the new regime when all they are trying to do is make it all sweetness and light.
There is a phrase 'less is more' and I wish the new Mod regime could understand this and ease off, they are looking for problems where there are none, or winding people up and creating their own problems, and sadly they seem incapable of understanding this.
If I am wrong then cuss me down.... it is just how it seems to be, maybe I am reading it wrong, if so then I apologize. This is just how it feels to me.

What is happening with this site???
Some 2 years ago when I joined Webdiplomacy you could play 3 games in a row during one night. Now, you cant get players for even one game. Everyone is just typing on forum. Maybe if we type about it, we can overcome this problem somehow?! Play people, play.

My gf and I made a small table. Nothing intense; the pieces were pre-cut, we just picked what we liked and assembled and painted it. I'm pretty sure it ended up being more expensive than just buying one, but it was a fun project. http://tinyurl.com/lm89ydg
