What is happening with this site???
Some 2 years ago when I joined Webdiplomacy you could play 3 games in a row during one night. Now, you cant get players for even one game. Everyone is just typing on forum. Maybe if we type about it, we can overcome this problem somehow?! Play people, play.

Jamie - it is not a barely relevent story -- it is a very *common* story about what happens to homeless people, who are grossly misunderstood by most bleeding hearts. *Many* homeless people are there by personal choice, not by some great evil of the state.

So....AGAIN...in the case of this individual, what is THE REST OF THE STORY? You are making the ridiculous assumption that the story of ONE person, with an obvious bias (sister), who also has obvious deficiencies in her ability to tell the whole story (really!?!? She didn't know!?!?!) is the best person to get the story from. I suggest that her story is half true, at best.

THAT is why it is relevant.

Also, the Department of Work and Pensions reduced this man's "INCOME" (hand out...) for cause. It was not an arbitrary act. Again, you are trying to paint him as purely innocent, when the truth is absolutely otherwise.

Now, you may want to ask questions about why society lets a man like this fail....and you may want to ask why the only place he had to turn to was the state (where was his family? Where were his military comrads? Why wasn't he in a charity shelter? Why...why....why....the questions are endless...

Somewhere along the line, you must admit that this man made bad choices. That doesn't mean he should have died....but to say he is wholly innocent of his own death is disingenuous, at best.
krellin (80 DX)
17 Sep 14 UTC
For the record, Jamie, **I** have a brother, who is a homeless military vet, who doesn't have a job, who lives with friends and drifts around. He refuses help from his family. I help him if and when he asks for it...but mostly he disconnects from us. Much of his current plight is due to choices he has made. Some of it is mental issues. But....he's also happy as he lives, by all appearances....so what are we to do? Involuntarily commit him to an institution? He is definitely at a higher risk for something bad to happen to him...but there is little to nothing I can do to help him.

But I'm at least **aware** of his plight.

this sister, in your story...was not.

So f*ck you if you think I don't know anything about this sort of situation.

^ What mendax said.

You have offered absolutely no proof to support your claims, Krellin - just conjecture.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
18 Sep 14 UTC
I am just bumping this to offer Krellin the opportunity to defend his unsupported claims here, in the thread about the topic, rather than sending me angry PMs about it.

Over to you, Krellin.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
19 Sep 14 UTC
Just for everyone else's information, Krellin has continued to PM me without having the courage to bring his comments to this thread.
krellin (80 DX)
19 Sep 14 UTC
I PM'ed Jamie because I was discussing a FAMILY MATTER that I didn't wish to have discussed and torn apart in general public by a bunch of rude and inconsiderate people.

Of ALL people, I would expect jamie to understand that sometime personal family matter are not always the things we want discussed.

I didn't send him an "angry" PM, either. This *childish* notion of anyone that disagrees with me that if I type anything anywhere it is "angry" is the last refute of people with no arguments, just trying to discredit someone.

Pathetic, Jamie, truly.

Jamiet99uk (808 D)
19 Sep 14 UTC
Ok then, please respond properly to the facts which I have presented.
krellin (80 DX)
19 Sep 14 UTC
As for the "facts" you have about this case....facts are meaningless, unless you have ALL the facts in the story.

For example:

Fact 1: A car sped down my street and squealed it's tires around the corner when it drove away.
Fact 2: After the car passed, I found a dead man in the road.

YOU people will naturally jump to the conclusion that it was a hit-and-run, and the driver of the car is a criminal.

The thing you are missing is :

Fact 3: It was dark out, and the driver did not see the man in the road.
Fact 4: He died of a heart attack while walking his dog.

It's amazing how a story can change when you have ALL of the facts.

Thus....I reject that your story of the dead soldier has **ANY** value until you can present to me ALL the facts regarding his death, and not just the incredibly and obviously biased, carefully selected facts that the "grieving" sister presented.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
19 Sep 14 UTC
And for the record, I interpreted your PM's as "angry" because they REPEATEDLY USED CAPITALS and in almost every message you called me "an ass" or similar. Hardly the cordial and polite exchange which you imply you were seeking, Krellin.
krellin (80 DX)
19 Sep 14 UTC
*I* on the other hand have presented to you two anecdotes --- which contain "facts" --- about homeless men, one a veteran, that refuse the offered help of government and friends.

My "facts" are completely relevent, if your facts are, because they present an established and WELL KNOWN pattern of behavior of homeless people, which often times includes veterans....and thus, it is not a far fetched consideration that your homeless veteran falls under the same pattern of behavior.

and thus...his death, in part, is via self-destruction and poor choices....NOT because of some vile evil perpetrated upon him by the government.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
19 Sep 14 UTC
Since Krellin is not listening, I am going to repeat myself:

The Department for Work and Pensions knew that they had reduced this man's income to a level below that which, on the basis of their own calculations, he would be unable to live on. They knew they had put him in a position in which, unless someone else intervened or he somehow got a job, which he was trying to do in difficult circumstance, he would not be able to support himself. They drove him into the position of immediate peril which caused his death.

Krellin, which of the above paragraph is factually incorrect, please?
krellin (80 DX)
19 Sep 14 UTC
Oh jamie....if you were only as polite as you delusionary pretend yourself to be.

and CAPS are for EMPHASIS.

This *childish* notion that Caps = rude is something that I simply reject, whole heartedly.

In my profession, we use CAPS all the time to EMPHASIZE IMPORTANT ITEMS in a document.

Mature people accept that as emphasis, and don't go crying to the manager that someone insulted me in a document.

grow up, seriously.

I am now muting this discussion, because Jamie seems rather more interested in attacking me than he does actually having a discussion -- on obvious nod to the fact that he has no argument.

I win.

Jamiet99uk (808 D)
19 Sep 14 UTC
1. Krellin fails to respond to my points.
2. Krellin declares himself the winner.
3. Krellin pretends to mute the thread.

I invite others to draw their own conclusions.
krellin (80 DX)
19 Sep 14 UTC
Your list of "facts" is PARTIAL, Jamie. P-A-R-T-I-A-L.

Period. end of discussion.

WHY did he lose his benefits? Why didn't he have a job? Why did his family reject him? Why was his supplemental income so low? Do ALL individual recieve such a low income? There are myriad questions that ***MUST*** be answered before your so-called "facts" having any value.

You can not answer them....therefore, this discussion is pointless.

Gald to see you are so mature Jamie that you can stay on topic in your own thread, instead of simply lashing out and attacking me. Funny...because I thought *you* in particular were quite fond of having a forum that wsn't full of insults and attacks. And yet.....here you are, in all your hypocrisy.

Very disappointed in you, Jamie. I thought I was returning to a kinder, gentler forum. I guess you need a spanking.

abge's Craft Corner
My gf and I made a small table. Nothing intense; the pieces were pre-cut, we just picked what we liked and assembled and painted it. I'm pretty sure it ended up being more expensive than just buying one, but it was a fun project. http://tinyurl.com/lm89ydg

Anyone else have a fun project they're working on they'd like to share?

We have a ton of open CD positions tonight. Take one, take two, take ten. Take them all if you'd like. The best (subjectively, of course) positions are those near the top but the ones at the bottom are all still in contention in their respective games. If a game is broken, send me a PM.
