The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

Absolutely. I think that anyone over the age of 8 can surely find something useful to do. Perhaps even younger children can find suitable jobs.

1) I concur

2) Absolutely. Magistrate, when can we meet with the Council of Elders?

3) Unsure

Is the alchemist capable of teaching while he researches?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Personally, I am against it. I feel like conversion is a big task that we should once we are better placed to put our minds to it. Splitting it and teaching also seems like a bad idea to me, as that way conversion will take longer, and the period of conversion is when they are likely to get restless.

Once we have stabilised the place, got everything up and running and constructed a church to awe the natives, then conversion would be a good idea, in my eyes. Until then, the increased loyalty/production comes at too high a cost in my eyes.

Magistrate Abge, can we have the new mothers go to work, and assign the elders to look after the children and pregnant mothers? We would assign some of the Royal Guard to watch over them and keep the safe. Naturally, the new mothers would not be doing intense work, so fishing or point farming would seem most suitable.

Do the rest of us have any idea what age we want to start the children working at? 8 and 12 both appear to have been mentioned.

HR you should make the results viewable. I dont think you allowed access; I made the same mistake.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Ah yes. Should be ok now?
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
That's why I asked about the alchemist, as I want them both done in as efficient a manner as possible. (And once we do get around to building a church, I want a Royal Banner in front of that too.)
For age, I want to learn how many of the children are of those ages first. I also want to figure out at what age the elders should stop working. Beyond that, having the elderly look after the newborns sounds good to me.
You also need to make the second link public.
TrPrado (461 D)

Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Respecting the elders would make us popular, forcing them to work probably would piss off their council - bad. Looking after the children will free up labour for us without needing to upset that council. And old people love kids.

I agree with your idea on meeting with their council. Can you arrange that, magistrate?
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Of course, the minimum age to leave the workforce would be below the age of the youngest member of their council. Increasing it all the way to 80 would be foolish beyond belief, but 55 feels a bit young. And I don't want to bring in anyone of poor health, only the elderly of exceptional health, still strong enough to work.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
You must remember that life expectancy is not very high. In the future perhaps living to 70 will be ordinary, but here it is exceptionally rare.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Ah, yes. Understood. On a separate point then, Magistrate, are there any colonists that have broken any of the laws set forth by the Governor?
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Also, we'll be slowly losing wheat if we don't add workers to that product.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Can the magistrate give a more definitive life expectancy we can work off of, just in case. I also want the alchemist not to research agriculture. If he's researching anything, it should be medicine.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
I know it's a lot of inquiries in a row, but can we look into the status of Councilor Dresden? He has not participated in discussion since before we set sail, and he has only voted on whether or not the HC should be capable of voting.
Let's meet the Council of Elders assp.

On both the conversion and the minimum age, I would be very VERY conservative at this point. If this were a computer simulation, one could easily assume that 'conversion' and activating a large workforce are only positives. However, since we have a Magistrate - who reminds us that this is real life - we need to take into account the many negative effects of child labour and forced conversion.

The Missionary should teach only, simply include teaching on religion. We should focus on converting people by example, not by force.

[ abge: is it possible to also list queued tasks for the advisors in the scroll? What they will be doing next turn if we don't intervene ]
On life expectancy, there is a common misconception that historically, people did not become very old. In fact, 'life expectancy at birth' was very low because of huge child mortality, but 'life expectancy at 21' could easily hit the sixties and seventies.
mendax (321 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
The point by TMoW on life expectancy is very, very relevant. Whilst overall life expectancy may be low, for those who make working age we can probably expect 30 - 40 working years from them.

Any polls other than the conversion one I should vote on? Has HC been decided yet?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Oh, interesting shift for HC voting happened! Could someone post that form so I can change my vote? I'm voting for the fastest resolution in that regard, since I don't prefer either candidate..

Just addressing some things here, cut and paste job, my thoughts in parentheses.

Magistrate: The women who are not working are currently with child or caring for infants. (No issue here; is this impacting our labour?)

Farmer: I will require workers to prepare the land for planting Tomatoes and Apples. (Is there anything preventing the addition of workers for this task? Should be done sooner than later, no?)

Missionary: I can both teach and convert, but I will be less effective at both. (On this I say, teach only. Do what will be most effective).

steephie: HR is our official HC
HB: "is this impacting our labour?" Yes. The number of those totals to 162. Some of us want to get the new mothers back to work and have elders take care of the newborns. Can't really give them backbreaking labor right now, though.
Dear Magistrate, can you explain why our wheat productikn has gone down? It seems we're dipping into reserves.

@TMOW

Whilst it's true that living to 60 was normal (once you got to adulthood), 70+ was still very rare because with healthcare being so poor, if you got sick/injured in that time there just wasn't much chance of recovery.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
But we don't know about this specific island for sure. Hence, I'm asking.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
