The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

What's the difference between vdiplomacy and webdiplomacy?
I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

So 438/895 people are in the working population. Subtracting the 110 elders and 185 children, that leaves us with 162 presumably adult females who are either pregnant or looking after new children.

Can we organise a group crèche, guarded by a couple of the royal guards and containing the expectant mothers and watched by some of the more active elders, to free the rest of those mothers to get to work?
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

2 more hours to vote for the single candidate Hellenic Riot. After that I remind the councilors by their vote HR has NO vote. I also remind the magistrate of this as he will need to be aware when adjudicating our decisions that the HC does not vote on matters.
TrPrado (461 D)

Can the magistrate give a clear reason for why those 162 aren't working? Is HR correct in that assumption?

Have the farmer plant the seeds. Can the missionary by chance both teach the people AND convert the children. How would the colonists feel about the older children being put to work?
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
21 Mar 15 UTC
I am not sure that conversion would be the best approach right now; would that not lead to a development of animosity? Could we not treat the teaching with a measure of objectivity and neutrality?
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Then do so only in the families that are happy that we are here?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Converting the children without converting the adults seems highly likely to piss the adults off to me. We should start with the adults, but I don't think that should be our first priority because we'd need a church, really.

And I know I have no vote, CB. That doesn't mean I can't give suggestions though.

Can we have one or both of the dogs assigned to the Lieutenant of the Guard?

@HR= convert them in a hut or outside. Whats the difference between educating and converting? why does conversion need a building but education doesn't?
-----------------------------------

I think we should wait to convert to avoid any negative morale among our workers. Also one of the dogs should be sent hunting with any hunters we have and if we don't have hunters then maybe some workers should be put on hunting. That of course is an alternative for 1 of the dogs.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

I'm thinking that a church would be good for converting because that way they have somewhere where they can really be in awe of our God, and because otherwise they will likely just add him to their polytheistic religion without abandoning the old ways, if he's worshipped outside like theirs are. We need to make our religion really new and different to them.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
By polygamous, does that mean the men have more than one wife or the women have more than one husband?
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
We need to decide the ages that are too young and too old to work.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
21 Mar 15 UTC
okay so we build a church to help convert a peaceful and cooperating people to our religion to appease a missionary before we build a fucking school to teach them farming, carpentry, masonry, medicine, and alchemy? Sure the church could be used as a school, but what you are telling me is converting these people is of equal or greater priority than educating them. When educating them results in nothing except benefit while attempting to convert can ad likely WILL lead to animosity and thus civil dispute. I can not wait to observe this and have the king come back and execute every one of you. I welcome death. Do you?

I'd suggest handing out a medallion to all officials, to show that they signify a position of worth. Then, if we want to promote a native, we have a convenient way to do so.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
Converting may lead to loyalty, but what if it is done unsuccessfully? We would then face an overwhelming degree of disloyalty. It has been told that the majority of the natives are at this time indifferent to our presence, which is good. We have no need to tap into their way of life and potentially disrupt it. All we are here for is economic prosperity and to meet our quotas on the mainland. Let's sort that out before worrying about such issues as promoting our own ideologies.

Magistrate: The women who are not working are currently with child or caring for infants.

Farmer: I will require workers to prepare the land for planting Tomatoes and Apples.

Missionary: I can both teach and convert, but I will be less effective at both.

CommanderByron (801 D(S))

@bo- OMG there is another person not taking the magistrate at face value! This can't be! (just to clarify this is me agreeing with you)
krellin (80 DX)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Converting them has nothing to do with saving their pagan souls. It is all about filling them with the desire to do good before the eyes of their newfound God...which newfound God would be highly displeased if they did not serve the God-ordained King with all their might.

THAT should be the focus on conversion.
krellin (80 DX)
21 Mar 15 UTC
The missionary needs to convert. Those that need to be taught should be selected, in the proper numbers, and according to demonstrated qualities useful to us.

No sense in accross-the-board lifting up of the heathens.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
21 Mar 15 UTC
I understand that, krellin. I'm not saying that at some point we shouldn't focus on conversion. It could be valuable. I am just saying that we are in a good enough spot right now that we should not risk such a task going wrong. Once we have more control of the island and its inhabitants, we can focus on greater goals such as that, but for the time being, we simply have to scrounge out our quota and get these people working. Engaging them with a new religion may do that, but it may also turn them against us, especially considering we have never seen this missionary in action before and have little idea of how effective he could be with a culture he has never encountered before.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
Can we also get discussion going about labor ages? There are people old enough to work that are counted as children and people that are potentially not too old counted as elders. This is bothersome, and I feel a few of these should be added to the workforce.
TrPrado (461 D)
21 Mar 15 UTC
A few things:
1) I would like to start hanging Royal Banners outside the town hall, the barrack, the granary, and one beside the dock. As well as on the plot of land the farmer requested and next to where the barn is being built.
2) We should at some point come into contact with the colonists' council of elders to establish relations with them. I don't know why we haven't done this yet.
3) In regards to conversion, this would increase loyalty, as I said. The increased loyalty would increase their production, as they would have the added incentive of honoring their God and their king. And we do need our production ramped up in a great many things.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
