To clarify, I am in a long term relationship with a woman I met at university 10 years ago. We have been in a relationship for over 8 years. Our relationship is open, and polyamorous. For the past two years she has been seeing another man, with my consent.

At the same time, and with the consent of my partner, I occasional have more casual hookups with other women.

Now, this lifestyle isn't for everyone - largely because it raises issues of sexual jealousy that not everyone can overcome.

But it works for us.

The adult wiring in your brain obviously hasn't connected up yet. When it does you'll be driven to spread your genes as far and as wide as you can. That's the basic male drive. Wait a year and you'll probably want to lose your virginity as soon as possible. I know I did; but back there and back then (40-odd years ago) the girls got their attitude towards sex from their mothers and their mothers hadn't had the benefit of The Pill, so their attitudes were very conservative. You had to date a girl for *months* before you got more than a kiss. Only a "slag" would sleep with a guy earlier than that. These days the girls still get their attitude towards sex from their mothers, but their mothers had the pill available to them and so did their mothers... Times change. Attitudes change. Morals change. Society changes. When you're good and ready go out and enjoy yourself. Butterfly. Learn. Your friends will. The girl you fancy and want a long term relationship with will (and that'll break your heart). It'll hurt, but you'll survive, you'll get stronger, you'll get smarter, you'll learn, we all do. When you're older don't be afraid to get out there and live a little.

CM, why are you worried about getting married now? 1. I doubt you legally can, 2. Do you really want to completely commit yourself at such a young age? Test the waters a bit, meet different people. As someone with lots of experience (sarcasm), I wouldn't recommend getting married ASAP.

As for one-night stands, some people just like having sex. It feels good (or so I have been told), and so they like doing it without the hassle of a relationship.

Why are you in such a rush CM? I didn't have my first relationship until college and I turned out allright so far. It's not a race. It'll happen when it happens.

You know, I think this whole thing has to do with the kind of person I am. For example, when I like a girl, I don't just fantasize about having sex with her (though I do sometimes), I also fantasize about falling in love with and eventually marrying her.

Marriage is an archaic institution. You should try some more exciting fantasies.
