Creating a new account in order to start over - in my humble opinion it's no big deal. It is not the same as playing in one game with two accounts. I can understand why this is not encouraged, but really most players could not be bothered. And some of us get attached to our online identity and wouldn't want to start over. After all Draug, if you started over sure you would wipe a few defeats off your record, but you would not be King of the Forum anymore.

I don't think so. For one thing there is nothing stopping a player creating a new account, and so long as they don't join games with both accounts there is almost zero chance of being caught. It is not an enforceable rule, realistically.
Secondly it is not just a players negative game history that counts, but rather a positive history. That is a proven track record of not resigning. Brand new players don't have the benefit of visible proof of reliability. So it's not that much of a benefit.
Furthermore if a player used to resign a lot, but then decided be more considerate and not resign, then it is silly to keep judging them for their past history. In such a case of a player who really did change their attitude then I think a new account and a fresh start could be called for. Some people play here for years. Why continue to be punished for behavior that may have happened a long time ago.
With regards to win loss ratio - I do not thinj this should viewed as a never ending tournament. If you lose your first twenty games but then win your next twenty then you are still awesome, no matter what the stats *look* like, and I think this would reflected in your Ghost Rating.

OK....there is a new Game I saw that currently has 6 players. ALL of them have 90 . ALL of them have played 0 games. ALL of them have joined the site within the last 10 days and are now in this game....errrrrrrr....yeah....Nothing fishy there...

As an add-on to what spyman said: would a frequent CDer give a damn if they pile up CDes, except if s/he's legitimately changing their ways and want to be pardoned for past errs? A habitual CDer who isn't changing his/her ways wouldn't go to the trouble of getting rid of a 19% resignation rate account for a new one -- because said CDer isn't changing his/her CDing ways.

The only people to whom this could "encourage" CDing are the people who care about their CD rate -- and these people inherently aren't going to CD in the first place...

...except, again, for players who did CD in the past and legitimately have changed and want those off the record.

Or for the oddball like me who has had legitimate reasons for his three CDs in 200+ games. I sure would like those off my record (change them to defeats, even, better than resignations when I didn't actually quit) and I admit I've been tempted in the past to make a new account. At this point the Eden persona is too well-known for me to just scrap it over a 1% CD rate, but back before that was the case and my CD percentage was higher (not HIGH, mind, just higher than 1%) I considered it.

The only people making a new account to eliminate resignations from the record affects are the people who wouldn't abuse the right by CDing with new accounts. Let them, I say.

Here's the thing...if somebody actually has the integrity to approach a Mod and ask to have an account deleted so they can make a new one, you have to respect that. Because the alternative is to just make your new account and not tell anyone and be dishonest about the whole thing. *Clearly* people on this very forum have done that and are currently, by strict def, multis. Therefore, why would you NOT want to take the opportunity to eliminate the temptation of a multi by deleting the unwanted account, *for whatever reason*?

Whew that took a while to read. I have one question. To Draug. How do you know I haven't contacted the Mods are you one yourself? If so cant you just ban me then.

Anyways I have not been on since November and you can say what you like but I tried every password that I used at the time of the creation. My sisters names, my girlfriends name, and 123456789a. None seem to work. Yes my record was bad but all my resigns were from live games that I tried to play at night but either ended up falling asleep, or getting bored. I think one or two might of been from a regular game. But sometimes people cant afford internet. There was a couple of times where I used the neighbors wi-fi but with little success. I can say that I was happier when I saw my new record was erased and I could start a new but that definitely was not the motive for the creation of this account. My first motive was to begin to play diplomacy again. And I cant wait to play with some of those that I either got along with or TYPED IN ALL CAPS AT. I want my first non-live game to be with classy people from this site. Just dont ask me to be classy. :)

P.S. I got my own thread. Achievement unlocked. We should get achievements on this site.

Did I ask for sympathy? No I was just stating why i may of missed some games.

And as for the bored part I meant something had came up that had a far greater purpose in my life. Like going to the movies with friends or hanging with them or some type of social interaction based in the real world. Not a bored game. I have fun on this game but it will never satisfy my entertainment like my friends will. Even sometimes I was kicked off the comp by my mother. Since I am a kid. Draugnar has pointed out.

I hear you, Riphen. I boot my youngest sons off of their laptops all of the time. I can easily see how you can miss games. Good on you for being so well grounded in reality.

I don't like the Agent K issue at all. I do feel it set a bad precedent. A multi got banned and then got to come back. But I didn't know he had a bad record. Good news is, he no longer visits or plays. I feel the same about Master Diplofool. You build a reputation on the site, you have to live with it and change it over time. Not just how you play, but how you interact. I still deal with my former extreme assholishness (and occasionally fall back into it) here but I'm not asking for a name change or creating a new account or any of that rubbish.
