Serious question concerning Ghost Ratings and games...
If seven players wanted to play a game and not have it counted for GR purposes, could that be accommodated? A bit like choosing WTA or PPSC, we would have a button for GR // non-GR.

Why the kids?
In soccer matches, when the teams line up and the National Anthems are played, why are there little kids standing in front of them (in this World Cup little African kids) awkwardly - these large men with their hands on the shoulders of these scrawny little kids?

I dreamed that my ally in this game I am actually playing in real life stabbed me, right before we were supposed to draw with everyone else.

Support - have I been playing wrong all these years???
Hey - I am confused on an issue of supporting.
Example: DEN-s-KIE, BAL.Sea-s-DEN and NS-DEN
...why is the support at DEN cut to KIE?
I was under the impression that this situation would result in KIE being supported and that if KIE was being attacked by a unit with another supporting it into KIE that it would be a stand-off. Somehow I have managed to survive a lot of situations despite this appearing to be the case...Have I really got this wrong?

Sitter needed for 2 league games.
I will be in need of a sitter for my league games for two weeks in July. I'll be vacationing at a lake house from July 10 through July 17 with no internet access, then will be on retreat from July 23 through August 1, again with no internet access. Please let me know if you are able to fill in. The links to the games are below, and a third one will be starting shortly. I'll email my password out to whoever can commit to both. Thanks in advance for your help!!

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: But You Don't Really Care For Music (Do You?)
Plato certainly didn't seem to have a problem banning a good deal of music (including whole styles and instruments) in his ideal Republic...however, Kant and Nietzsche both agreed (a RARITY) on the importance of music, Nietzsche going so far as to infamously claim "Without music, life would be a mistake." (And to prove I'm a Nietzsche dork- my favorite composition of his.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yoFL6C2Rjw&feature=related How important IS music? Which kinds? To whom?

Possibly the Worst Argument Against Evolution and Worst Use of Peanut Butter EVER!
I hate to open the can of worms twice ina day (I've already done my "This Week in Philosophy" bit...) but this isn't a can of worms, folks.

It's a can of peanut butter- and apparently, it totally can be used to disprove and and all arguments for evolution...yep...screw Darwin and screw priests, folks- the answer was with peanut butter all along! :O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZFG5PKw504&feature=related

Happy Independence Day!
Remember all the great things America has done in her past, and hope, believe she can bring to live up to that legacy in her future! Our great workers and soldiers and thinkers! Reagan and JFK! Lincoln saving the Union! The Roosevelts! Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman! MLK! And especially Washington and the Founders, winning our freedom from the King! (Sorry, my English friends- hey, remember John Locke as well!) :D

@krellin-

1. Separate but Equal has essentially nothing to do with the New Deal. It has everything to do with the moral standing of the Supreme Court.

2. Hmm, let's see here. We installed the government in Germany, Japan, Italy, South Korea, Austria, and the Phillipines, amongst many other places. And then, the governments we installed gave us bases. You don't see any sort of implied threat there?

3. Finally, compared to the European powers during their era of explicit colonialism, we are a much better hegemon. That's a low standard to beat, however. Although Mao Zedong was a less brutal and irrational dictator than Pol Pot, that doesn't exactly make him a good guy, does it? No, it means he wasn't the worst ever. And the US hasn't been the worst hegemonic power ever. But we've killed tens of millions of people in order to attain and maintain our hegemony.
So, Germany, Japan, Italy, South Korea, Austria, and the Phillipines are vassal states of the US. France to their credit broke away from our evil influence by ...what? Asking us to leave, right? No I don't see an implied threat there.

How do you qualify this tens of millions? In the countries as we've taken them over? No, in wars right? The USA is far more likely to buy friends than to exert influence thorugh military force. Now you're turn, not only haven't we been the worst hegemonic power. We've actually been the best. What other hegemonic power, after a war that cost millions of its citizens' lives, was committed to treating their enemies fairy (the fourteen points), giving the former combatants a forum to discuss their greivances peacefully (the LEN, a body in which we had no voice), and instead of asking reparations actually invested billion in rebuilding our former enemy (the Marshall Plan). Thoroughout history it has not been the case that the victor invests money in rebuilding the vanquished. What was Rome's response to Carthage?
**vassal states to the US?**
**retraction- not millions, hundreds of thousands**

@Bob

Just thought I'd point out that Mao Zedong is responsible for the deaths of more humans than anyone else...ever...being responsible for 40-60 million deaths. That's at least twice as many deaths as anyone else...ever.

@Bob - Once again, if we are the puppet master of all these European governments that we installed, we're pretty f*ing piss poor as global tyrants. Europe is hardly subservient to the US! Wow...of all the mindless tirades against the US, yours has got to be about thw stupidest I have seen yet! Dude...get a life.

Also...we've killed *tens of millions* of people? Wow...ridiculous bogus claim if I have ever seen one. You are truly an idiot.

Have you read "The Ghost" by Robert Harris (filmed as "The Ghost Writer")?

Can't say I have. But I know a little something of shadow governments, I just can't say where they are or when I was involved (really don't feel like "disappearing" for committing treason).

@draugnar: look it up. The book is a couple of years old, the film came out a few months ago, was directed by Roman Polanski (one of his best I think). It is obviously fiction but it's impossible to read without thinking of Tony Bliar. Good holiday read.

Will have to hit it at the library for one of those I read around the pool when this damned Diplomacy game/site lets me escape the house and go there. :-)
@ Ghost - I know this thread has moved on, but I have to comment on your dislike of FDR. While the New Deal may have sucked (economically I agree with you) he did do one thing that no one can take away from him especially a British person. Namely, he saved your asses. He a) fought tooth and nail against the isolationists to get the first peace-time draft in American history, b) greatly increased military spending, which helped get the country prepared for mobilization, c) arranged for us to sell you destroyers at a time when the RN needed them more than Nelson did frigates and d) most importantly for you guys, he got Lend-Lease through despite the fact that it was less popular than feces-flavored gum. Fiscally I am a solid Republican and on that front hate everything Roosevelt did, but I still like and respect him, if only for his actions surrounding the build-up to WW2.
