Serious question concerning Ghost Ratings and games...
If seven players wanted to play a game and not have it counted for GR purposes, could that be accommodated? A bit like choosing WTA or PPSC, we would have a button for GR // non-GR.

Why the kids?
In soccer matches, when the teams line up and the National Anthems are played, why are there little kids standing in front of them (in this World Cup little African kids) awkwardly - these large men with their hands on the shoulders of these scrawny little kids?

Anyone ever played Blood Bowl?
Huh? Have ya? Which is your favorite team?
I have played both the miniatures version and the computer version. I have always been an Orc Team player. However, I do own miniatures for all the teams, well, of all the teams they had ten years ago.

Right on. I've been playing the game for the 360 which is basically a carbon copy of the board game. I like the Lizardmen the bestest.

I played Blood Bowl first about 15 years ago. I have always loved High Elves in the Warhammer Fantasy world, so that's who I like to play in the bloodbowl game as well, though admittedly, they are not the best team (fast yes, good no).

I dont know how the adaptation to console games has gone, but that game, of all the GamesWorkshop games, is best suited to the console I think.

maybe Man O'War too but that was such a short-lived game =(

anyone else here play WH Fantasy?

I've not played WH Fantasy personally, but I've watched it played a few times. Looks perty sweet, to be honest. It would be nice if there was a website where you could build an army and play against other players. Maybe there is one? I've not researched.... Perhaps I will later.

Blood Bowl is one of the best boardgames of all time and one of only a few successful attempts to recreate a sports-like situation in tabletop game form.

I play as Dwarfs and occasionaly Humans. In terms of twinkery the best team is actually the Skaven because it is possible, with a couple of extra skills, to get players who can score a TD in a single turn. To my knowledge no other team can achieve this (excluding halflings and goblins being thrown by huge team-mates, but that's just silly).

Man O'War was a pretty good game, Babak. I also liked Battlefleet Gothic which was in many ways the same thing, just in space.

I used to play WH fantasy when i was in highschool. I would sometimes go to a nearby minature store during breaks and i remember they had a Blood Bowl game playing occasionally. I've never joined, it always looked weird to me. I'm wondering if i missed out? How does it compare to WH fantasy or other games? I enjoy a certain complexity when i play, but even more so when it arises from pretty simple rules (dip, chess and many other boardgames) instead of needing a thumb-thick rulebook :P

@sqrg: BloodBowl's basic rules are very simple and really easy to pick up. The game is basically American Football played with no downs, and added violence. Gameplay is based around fast-flowing unarmed combat based on simple d6 resolution, punctuated by occasional attempts to move the football. It's great fun.

I could always just go and try it ;)

So how much is luck a factor in the eventual outcome? I just can't enjoy a game risk or catan where dice from hell wreak havoc on my furiously planned strategies...
Amon Savag (929 D)

Yeah, definitely good fun for sure. I like how you put "occasional attempts to move the football", haha... Unless you're the elves or Skaven. Then you're relying on football movement.

@sqrg: "So how much is luck a factor in the eventual outcome?"

Not too much. There's enough randomness to make things entertainingly unpredictable, but generally better tactics and play will win more often than not.

Seriously, I cannot push this game hard enough. It's one of the best things GW have ever come out with.

Thanks Jamiet, sounds like i should try it out.

Amon if you ever do let me know. there were a few good PC versions of the fantasy game, but they required way too much of my 'oldish' computers and that was years ago when I had the time to devote to games (alas - no more).

if there was a free version somewhere online or even a new PC version I'd put the time in I think. I always loved GW Fantasy - just sooooo awesome. and I loved reading all the rulebooks cover to cover... man - to be a kid again ;)

didnt know we had so many GW gamers on here... that is sweet.

ps. my favorite ever game was when my brother and I had 6 other ppl over... we played a 30,000pt (total) good vs evil game where my brother and I were the forces of good fortified in the middle while the six others were attacking us from all directions in a HUGE ass game...

it was soooo damn awesome. we really got into it. I even remember creating some new races with new units, new rules, back-stories, details, and everything... we made an Arabia army with Camel riders, Carthiage, Tilea, and even a Southlands army ;)

man those were the days.

anyone else also play Necromunda? loved the Van Saar ;)
The latest Blood Bowl PC version game out a few months back. It was a download only release but scheduled for in store release, I think, this fall. It includes 8 races. More are to follow. You can play online as well. This is the same as the Xbox version.

There are 2 modes: traditional which is just like playing the board game, and real time which is not played in turns. I have not tried the real time version as I love the board game and playing a computer version of the board game makes me happy.

As for other GW games, I am TheMasterGamer, :-) I have run games of all sorts for local gaming stores for years. I once ran a game of Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine/Epic 40K over a weekend recreating the Siege of Jerusalem by the Romans in 69AD. By recreating I mean that when I design scenarios for a game I often base them on an actual historic battle (terrain layout and the like) but then place them in the setting of the game for forces available.

The table was 8' x 20'. A normal game is between 2 players with about 3000 D in forces each. We had 24 players in the game. There were over half a million points in troops involved. It was massive, and it was massively fun.

Support - have I been playing wrong all these years???
Hey - I am confused on an issue of supporting.
Example: DEN-s-KIE, BAL.Sea-s-DEN and NS-DEN
...why is the support at DEN cut to KIE?
I was under the impression that this situation would result in KIE being supported and that if KIE was being attacked by a unit with another supporting it into KIE that it would be a stand-off. Somehow I have managed to survive a lot of situations despite this appearing to be the case...Have I really got this wrong?

Sitter needed for 2 league games.
I will be in need of a sitter for my league games for two weeks in July. I'll be vacationing at a lake house from July 10 through July 17 with no internet access, then will be on retreat from July 23 through August 1, again with no internet access. Please let me know if you are able to fill in. The links to the games are below, and a third one will be starting shortly. I'll email my password out to whoever can commit to both. Thanks in advance for your help!!

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: But You Don't Really Care For Music (Do You?)
Plato certainly didn't seem to have a problem banning a good deal of music (including whole styles and instruments) in his ideal Republic...however, Kant and Nietzsche both agreed (a RARITY) on the importance of music, Nietzsche going so far as to infamously claim "Without music, life would be a mistake." (And to prove I'm a Nietzsche dork- my favorite composition of his.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yoFL6C2Rjw&feature=related How important IS music? Which kinds? To whom?

Possibly the Worst Argument Against Evolution and Worst Use of Peanut Butter EVER!
I hate to open the can of worms twice ina day (I've already done my "This Week in Philosophy" bit...) but this isn't a can of worms, folks.

It's a can of peanut butter- and apparently, it totally can be used to disprove and and all arguments for evolution...yep...screw Darwin and screw priests, folks- the answer was with peanut butter all along! :O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZFG5PKw504&feature=related

Happy Independence Day!
Remember all the great things America has done in her past, and hope, believe she can bring to live up to that legacy in her future! Our great workers and soldiers and thinkers! Reagan and JFK! Lincoln saving the Union! The Roosevelts! Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Tubman! MLK! And especially Washington and the Founders, winning our freedom from the King! (Sorry, my English friends- hey, remember John Locke as well!) :D
