@Friendly Sword - I don't think things got out of hand here, but I'm glad someone else was willing to speak up a bit on the general topic, there is a lot of casual misogyny on the internet and I'd hate to see it invade these forums.

Well, I personally think its weird. I'd also like to point out that just because the person in question doesn't want to be a killjoy doesn't necessarily make it appropriate to do (think of a scenairio involving a group of friends and racist jokes.) It also doesn't mean that you should bite off the head of anyone who calls into question the joke.

I've never played dip with djbent, but would love to - not because she's a girl, but because she seems fun on the forum, and I like playing dip with people who are fun to play with, and talk enough to get me interested in the game. can anyone explain to me why some of you use *'s instead of quotation marks? I find it perplexing, and inability to figure out why is quite frustrating

The asterisks that I can see seem to be ones that are there to show stress (often unusual), and are used instead of italics (as you can't get that here!).

So when figle talks about his friends ("*my* friends"), he would have emphasized the 'my' when speaking to show that it's a little strange or unsettling.

This is awful.

I think there were a few comments in particular that went overboard... which probably triggered FS' very laudable and completely appropriate response. I will point out only one of those comments - hellalt's very nasty and inappropriate comment about 25 posts from teh top. THOSE kinds of comments should be deleted by the mods if they have access to deletion, and SHOULD be frowned upon and responded to by the community members.

I dont mean we should flame hellalt (sorry to pick on you - but it was an appropriate example), but kindly let them know that this type of language and behavior will not be tolerated by the members of this community.

I would say this about misogynistic comments, anti-semitic comments, anti-gay comments, or other out-of-bounds lewd and profane verbiage...

now obviously this is not a police state, and we all can joke around - but as Justice Black (I think) once said... "I know what it is when I see it"... so we all know what crosses that line when we see it...


As a second point, all three - djbent, Akroma, and biddes - are pretty new participants on the phpdip.net forum (relatively speaking)... hopefully the first few of many females who will join this great hobby in this great community. I think it behooves us men to be respectful of them in particular and to keep the same welcoming community forum that enticed them to participate in the forum int he first place...


Now how we decide to Police ourselves is really up to us... and as we grow as a community to 100s and thousands of participants, the mods/creators may need tocome up with new mechanisms... but for now - an unwritten code of conduct... a 'respectful' approach is all we can ask for.


all that said - djbent may or may not be hot... but she certainly is on a hot streak...
