People are responsible for their actions. They are not responsible for everything or many of the things that happen to them. The world is not put together in such a way that we're able to avoid every unfortunate consequence of the actions of others by power of our own reason or abilities of risk assessment.
We have to live our lives with a certain humility. We have our dreams - they should always exceed our grasp. That might be the fault of a good number of folks caught up in the Foreclosure troubles. To have dreamed a dream. Someone who knew better told them it would work - they believed. And, here we are.
The question is, "what is the equitable solution to the problem?" Foreclosure is a draconian solution. What set of values, or who's values dictate that it is the only solution. A lot of smart folks don't think it is necessary or fair, or a wise decision for the banks and the economy. The political/legal system is looking at other solutions than foreclosure. It just takes time. Meanwhile many folks are living through the process that can't be modified fast enough to help them.
Hats off to you guys, Sicarius and friends. Choosing compassion over order. We are not a collection of laws - we are a community of people. Laws and government are imperfect and incomplete. Make sure we don't forget the point of these laws in the first place - to serve the people and the community.
Anarchy may be the most simple and complete expression of that impulse to remain human - compassionate, empathetic, free - in the face of the Alienation felt living within modern political systems. We need that impulse to remain strong to keep our modern societies from becoming the terrible worlds depicted in books like "1984", "Brave New World", or the realities like Fascist Germany, Soviet Union, and the suburban american high school.
I am not an advocate of Anarchy in the classic understanding. We need government. We need the anarchist to kept the government honest.
