Mod Team Notice
The site is so large now that we don't want to risk missing good candidates for moderator, so we'll also be considering volunteers. Shoot us an email if you're interested, if you have to ask for the email then we're not.

Nothing on this site has official approval. Everything is implicitly allowed until someone ruins the fun and then it's banned. Cheating accusations, porn, etc. That's how it's always been.

Do you need any more elite ninja's?

On a totally unrelated note, my dad is now terrified by me...

He never saw it coming...
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Mar 14 UTC
@jmo - I was just pointing out that IP alone means nothing. I wasn't saying anything about any other tools you have.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
20 Mar 14 UTC
Also, if the userbase, amount of threads and games and such increased, can one say the site is larger now than it was before?

Isn't that like saying a country is larger when more people live in it?

The borders are still the same, unless you're Russia...
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
20 Mar 14 UTC
Well actually IP alone means Internet Protocol which is one of the key aspects of the internet, without which we couldn't use the site...but I get what you mean ;)
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
20 Mar 14 UTC
@steephie, that's a terrible analogy. A more accurate one would be that a Country is a hard drive with a given size. It's growth is measured by what percentage of the size is being utilized. So the more people, the more population per given area. A site is different, when more space is needed because the memory is all filled you simply increase total size by buying a bigger hard disk.

Exactly. Except some members *cough* YJ *cough* are stored on floppy drives, if you know what I mean.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
20 Mar 14 UTC
Well yes, but without entrances (in a wide sense. Any way to get into a country) we can't access a country either...

One could also argue that internet isn't a property of a site. The internet is in a sense bigger with more IPs, but does that mean the site is bigger?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
20 Mar 14 UTC
Never mind. I thought the reaction to Draugnar was a reaction to me.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Mar 14 UTC
I always heard YJ *had* a floppy one.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
20 Mar 14 UTC
What does he have now then?
ghug (5068 D(B))
20 Mar 14 UTC
Nothing. Someone bit it off to get rid of the taste of shitty wine.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Mar 14 UTC
That would be unpretentious wine.

Oh, and steephie, "had" is the correct verb because I heard it in the past. It doesn't reflect on the present state which may be the same as the past state, but the speaker cannot automatically infer it *is* the present state because they knowledge was gained in the past.
ghug (5068 D(B))
20 Mar 14 UTC
Has is fine there too, actually. And I know full well what YJ calls his shitty wine.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Mar 14 UTC
Well, I was taught that if you heard it in the past, refer to it in the past tense. If you heard it very recently or are continually hearing it, then refer to it in the present tense. But then, I haven't taken grammar, English, or even a composition class since about 1987 when I was in college the first time around.
ghug (5068 D(B))
20 Mar 14 UTC
English is really sloppy about sequence of tenses in practice. "Had had" would mean only what steephie meant, "had" works either way, "has" means what you meant with a possible added connotation of his still having it being likely.
Draugnar (0 DX)
20 Mar 14 UTC
Yeah, I always hated the "had had" "has had" and "have had" usage, but it really is the only way to designate that the condition was strictly in the past and no longer applied.

I'd like to apologize, because we apparently weren't clear. We're looking for a *game* moderator, not a *grammar* moderator.

Hey, were keeping it bumped up for you and having a pleasant conversation about an interesting topic (and without controversy or fighting) at the same time. You should be thankful we can have civil conversations. :-)

Turkey Bans Twitter
I'm guessing it will take another week before CNN catches on to actual news since it doesn't involve the plane.

So yeah, fascism in Turkey... pretty cool.

Guess who I'll be voting for next May?
In truth I'm still undecided, but if they bring in allowances for whippets and flat caps, they'll have my vote. I don't feel patronised at all. What other measures aimed at the working classes would make you vote Tory?

Personality types (Myers-Briggs)
All you diplomats I'm sure must be interested in how people in the real world think. I ran across this a few months ago and it's really cool to look up comparisons between types and read about certain types. At first I was scared of something along the lines of a horoscope but I was very pleasantly surprised.

Since I Feel Bad Telling People to Shut the Fuck Up
Here's a thread. If you're like me and have that Bible shit muted because you don't give a damn what "god" thinks, it'll be the only one on your forum bar because they won't shut up in there.

But I'm not telling them to, I'm just making another thread.

Movie night with Gunfighter
Last night, I watched "Taxi Driver" (1976) and "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964) back-to-back.

Both movies were absolutely incredible (spoilers within)

Referendum in Crimea
Well, as predicted, the result of the Crimean referendum went strongly in favour of the option of leaving Ukraine and applying to become part of Russia. The US, EU and others have denounced the poll as illegal, but it appears that the majority of people living in Crimea genuinely want to join Russia. So, what now?
