Gunboat to introduce new players to site
I introduced several friends to Webdiplomacy, through a full-press game. Several players (five!) indicated they want to play another gunboat game on the side to get the hang of the site. They're reasonably experienced, so we're looking for two reasonable other players to give some staunch opposition.
Who feels like a game?!

Thoughts of Americans about opinions of "foreigners"about Americans?
So, Americans, what do you think of our opinions of you? What do you think we think about you? I'm curious, because I hear rather often how we are all blaming America blablabla while I know no one who actually does that.

I would like to be a player if possible. My win/draw is a bit higher than the stated guidelines, but my GR does not reflect that at all. If you feel like I'm qualified to be a TA I would be interested in that as well if you want to move Ghug up to Prof and I'll take the last TA spot.

Country preference if TA
Turkey
France
Russia
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
15 May 13 UTC
@patzicool: I think you're in good enough shape to TA. You're too experienced to play. I can post you to the TA list and bump Ghug to prof.

I still need some TAs to post preferences before this can get off the ground.
ePICFAeYL (221 D)

I would like to be a TA, if not for this one, then maybe for a future one.
I have 12 out of my 23 total games on this site are wins or draws, which is over 50%, and while I do not have many games on here, I play this game in real life at least 2 times a week for the past 2 years, so I would like to think I have enough experience, even if my online record does not show it. I, as a senior in high school, do not have time to play multiple games online since I have no idea when/if I can keep up with the turn restrictions.
If time constraints would be an issue, I graduate from high school in 2 weeks and will have very little going on in the next couple months.
My 1 resignation on this site was from a live game. It started at like 7pm and it was getting close to 1 am, and since I had finals the next day I had to quit to try and get some sleep. I didn't want to, since it had been a long game and looked to be nowhere near complete, but I had no choice. I had to pass my final.
ePICFAeYL (221 D)

My preferences would be, if I could be considered, England as #1, followed by Turkey and Russia, although honestly I play this game so often and have played at least 10 games with each country in real life, so I would be comfortable, or at least proficient, with nearly all of them. Austria being my weakest country.
cardcollector (1270 D)

Wish I could have joined this... Then again at no point was I qualifying for student when I joined. I picked the game up pretty fast. Wouldn't mind being a TA but I don't think I'm as experienced. I'm just shocked I have the same win/draw percentage as Nigee
I'd love to be a player in this, but I'm not entirely sure about whether I'd be eligible.
i would also be interested in playing, but i am above the low entry ratings but mostly in draws. i would like to learn more on how to win
also whats the difference between full press and not full press? i've seen it plenty of times and even played games titled it but still don't know what it means
Just looked a bit deeper into my record. My draw perc is 53%, I have zero wins. My learning goal would be exactly that, to learn not how to draw, but how to win. I find my style of playing is far more suitable to casual games (and casual opponents) than to professional play-to-win style. I'd like to take it to the next level. I'm not sure players would indicate country preference, but England, Turkey and Russia are up there with the countries I'd like to play better.

Having said that, I would not consider myself a new player by any means, so if my % is considered too high then I totally understand.

There's a possibility of getting an intermediate game if we can get the people together. As it stands, we have most of the players. We would need TA's and profs for this one, although the other game has plenty of profs that we could divide up.

The players are murraysheroes, jgurstein, hecks, cardcollector, TheMinisterOfWar, dr.octagonapus (assuming that we fill the slots for the other 2 players in game 1).
TA's for this one stand at ePICFaeYL.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

@dr.octagonapus: Full press games are the standard game where all players can talk freely amongst each other or in the global chat. Public Press games allow players to only post messages in the global chat where all press is available for everyone to see, much like a round table discussion. Gunboat is where messaging is prohibited.
An intermediate level would be cool!

groza should be professor for an advanced game with his record :D
murraysheroes (526 D(B))

I think I would prefer the intermediate game if it were to get off the ground. I feel like I understand the negotiations and the potential held by some of the various alliances, but I'm still not as efficient as I should be in seeing all of the potential moves on the board. I guess I'm saying that I'm better at strategy than tactics, and I'd definitely like to improve on that.
I'm interested in playing, in any of the two games. Considering the original post, though my record (my draw percentage being 39%, plus three unworthy wins) would make it more logical for me to join the intermediate one.
groza528 (518 D)
15 May 13 UTC
@Lee, Heh, my percentages are good but I don't have a whole lot of stats and several of those games had CDs. If you look at the ones against more active players (including the previous SOW game I played; I'm awful with Russia) I don't do quite as well.

Some are also Gunboats with which I have had mixed results-- actually the one I am most proud of is my Austrian defense where I fought like the dickens and earned a part of the draw despite being down to a single army in Moscow :-D

steephie22 (182 D(S))

NigeeBaby: really short: players obviously play, they all get a TA, forgot what it stands for but they are sort of mentors. Professors post in a thread every turn/year/day/whatever with their analysis of the game, judging everyone's moves. I think that's about it.

And thanks Atundal and murraysheroes for willing to step out for me! I appreciate it! Who's unconfirmed then? When are they removed if they don't confirm themselves?
2ndWhiteLine (2596 D(B))

steephie was in the last SOW and possibly the SOW before that. If this was real life, you would have dropped out of school by now.

I am about to graduate...
Hello WebDip community.
I am about to graduate high school (2 weeks after tomorrow) and I was wondering if anybody here has any general tips or experiences they can share with me and/or anybody who is graduating. I believe many of you on this site have gone through college or high school already, and was just wondering if anybody could ease my nerves about my future.
I am going to be attending University of River Falls - Wisconsin in the USA; I plan on becoming a teacher.

I just got my first real job last week and now I'm in a bit of a tight spot. My wardrobe needs to be updated to be semi-professional and done (mostly) on the kind-of cheap. My work environment is not overly formal (no tie or suit) but I still want to look good and purchase good quality and good fitting clothing and would like some recommendations.

Using the vote button in gunboat
Can someone please clarify what the new rules are about using the vote buttons in gunboat? Back in the day communication using these buttons was accepted (eg. "Cancel" = let's stop fighting, "Draw" = let's take out the big guy, "Pause" = Somebody help me, etc.). I know there was some tl;dr about it in the Gunboat Tournament thread but if any mods/admins can clear it up here i'd appreciate it.
