The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

I've recently been to the vdiplomacy site and it was very interesting that the interface and logo look similar to the webdiplomacy one. Are the 2 sites somehow related?

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What to do?
What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

The Magistrate reminds the Council he will implement tasks every month. If the Council does not wish a task to be completed within the next month, it should be removes from the Task List. Should the Magistrate instruct the Missionary and Alchemist to delay their teachings?

I agree with Krellin. Why are we teaching the colonists and more importantly, what are we teaching them? I say put them to work harvesting pearls for now. And put the missionary to work while we are at it. He can harvest pearls too, building good relationships with the commoners as they dredge the sands for precious points. Keep them occupied, offer rewards and incentives for high production of points until we figure out a plan of action. You know what they say about idle hands...

children at work == DIGGING clams. Come on....And in return for playing in the waves, they recieve lavish treatment. the idea is to make a situation where they see this work as rewarding.
KingCyrus (511 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
It might also be good to structure the collecting process. We could have teams dedicated to harvesting the clams, and another dedicated to shucking them.

I don't recall reading this earlier:

At what age are the natives considered adult?
krellin (80 DX)
20 Mar 15 UTC
Yay Lanium! I believe there are a bunch of Councilors here who are under the misconception that our purpose is to create a thriving society to rival our Kings. Such talk, in my opinion, is treasonous.

Our objective is to harvest the resources from this land that our Liege requires of us. If it is at some point determined that the best way to do this is to improve the conditions of these people, so be it. That has not yet been determined. Perhaps someday there will be a mechanical wonder that will replace the idle hands of these hungry mouths, and we can dispense with them altogether...and upon such a day, the King will reward us greatly, I assure you....thus, such is my objective.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Councilor Mendax, the Magistrate will have that information for you when he finishes his census at the end of the month.
TrPrado (461 D)

"Missionary" - Only the missionary should be teaching. The missionary, pretty much in his job description, is supposed to be a teacher.
"Alchemist" - We need to make sure the people have some medical knowledge so that we don't run into a problem like we did with the physician and completely run out of people we need for our health.
"Both" - The missionary should teach general knowledge to give the people an education, while the alchemist teach them in medical knowledge.
"No one" - We aren't here to educate colonists, we're here to collect points. We don't need to waste our time educating savages. We need to get them to work
"We should wait" - We don't know nearly enough about the colonists to dive right on in to educate them. We don't know how they would react should we try. We need to observe them first.
krellin (80 DX)

regarding the local work force, which hs decided (on their own, apparently) to abandon the Point harvest in favor of farming of whatever other nonsense there is...

What is the output of their production? Is it sufficient? Or are they now farming so much that there is either waste, or another resource we can use for trade?

It would be wise to have storage for excess crops to protect against famine/disease....but beyond that, these farmers must be stripped away from excess labor and put back to work that accomplishes our goals.

Further - what inspires these savages? What do they *desire* that we can provide, that they do not have, that can be used in barter for their laboring towards our goals?
TrPrado (461 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
krellin: Which of your 2 responses to the vote are you going with?
mendax (321 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
Ok, in that case we definitely need to wait until the end of the month before working children.
KingCyrus (511 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
I agree, we are here for a purpose, and that is to harvest Points. But we cannot neglect food and shelter either. The easier we make the lives of the natives, the less people they need to dedicate to survival, the more people we dedicate to Points.
murraysheroes (526 D(B))
20 Mar 15 UTC
Where I disagree with krellin and Lanium is that treating the population with a degree of dignity and autonomy is not necessarily the foundation to a great, self-ruled society...it may well be the best course of action in regards to supplying wealth to the crown. Treating someone like a dick does not always make them more productive. I'd also believe that the king would much rather have a steady supply of points for years to come than a short burst of productivity followed by the need to put down an uprising.

The problem with keeping human beings in a state of slavery or servitude (moral issues aside) is that they still possess the brains of human beings. Educated or not, they can still think and reason and will still react to inequity with resentment and potential violence.
krellin (80 DX)
20 Mar 15 UTC
TrPrado - Wait until later to educate. Any education given must be controlled and specific to our needs -- not to uplift them beyond what is necessary.
KingCyrus (511 D)

^agreed. Is there anything else we can do before the end of the month?

RE: the map

Surely, one of the Guard can give us a rough sketch of the island?
krellin (80 DX)
20 Mar 15 UTC
murrayshoes -- AI never said I want to treat the people like a dick. But not educating them beyond what is required =/= treating them like dicks.

It is only your arrogance that you think a person must look like you and think like you in order to be happy. I intend to keep them happy and productive....but without the ability to overthrow me. You want to give them schooling and, hell, why not teach them to use your weapons while you are at it!!! I'm sure they would then promise to protect you when they chase our guards off the island...

As for slavery and servitude....are you saying that you current state of servitude is making you unhappy? You ARE here to serve our King, are you not? Are you suggesting....are you suggesting that your service to our King is insufficient to your happiness?

If such is the case...then surely you are suggesting that...what? You should rule yourself...or worse still...rule?

GUARDS!!! Take murrayshoes in custody to violent speech against our King!!!
@krellin: However, wouldn't having more educated people allow them to thing of more innovative and efficient ways to mine these points. Especially since they don't want to be mining, they'll probably have ideas so they can reach that end. Also, it may become prudent to have some of they educated villagers become advisers to further good relations with the town as well as having their point of view to consider, and since they will be educated we may actually listen to him/her.

krellin, this is not a McCarthyism simulation, nor is it Fox News. Relax a bit.
I.E dumb villagers = all work (aside from menial labor) and progress done by us.
smart villagers = less work for us with better results
Not to mention that us teaching them what we want them to know is infinitely better than them becoming educated without our guidance as we can control the former.

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
