The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.

Happy Easter everyone
On this auspicious day I would like to share with the community my belief that the resurrection of Jesus was figurative, and not literal. The "risen" Jesus is the one that won the greatest person in history tournament. Respectfully, that's what I believe. He is risen, risen indeed.

I uploaded SunZi's "Little Dipper" Android application to Aptoide
Our very own SunZi (userID=19506) once created a useful Android app Diplomacy adjudicator based on webDiplomacy code. SunZi publically published this adjudicator app ("Little Dipper") on GetJar, where it is still free to download.

For the sake of archiving SunZi's work, which our comrade gave the bare minimum of advertising (threadID=879472 & threadID=882356), I uploaded the app to Aptoide.

What do you do when you're playing with an asshole that has the chance to draw, but refuses to do so when it is obvious that another player is going to get a solo? He's so annoying it hurts I really don't know what to do I mean it's obvious that if we continue the game will be a solo for another guy. He simply REFUSES TO DRAW

Also there was a vote which did not have a name next to it It had to be deleted that person needs to re-vote. The reason is that if we do not have accountability then there is room for double voting and we should avoid having room for acusations as much as possibe

BAHH! Who decided we should teach the peasants!! I fully reject such a notion! Keep them uneducated, lest they become aware of how we use them!

We are not here to lift these people up! We are here to collect *POINTS*!

If you want to send a missionary to talk to the pagans, do it to instill the fear of your God into them, and the promise of His Wrath if they do not do our bidding!

I would like to secure a couple of our finest soldiers to drag that damned priest back and give him proper instuctions as to his duty to King and POInts!!

Further, of the native laborers, we need to gather perhaps 20 children to start -- I'm thinking young girls, and lavish them with fine clothing in exchange for DIGGING CLAMS...Set them aside as special, give them special housing, etc.

If there parents object...let the Guard explain to them how things work around here, firmly. Guarantee to the families that they will be well cared for in clothing and food and other needs, and that if their children produce sufficiently, they will be released from whatever work they are doing now, and cared for by the us.

Our purpose is POINTS, and that is our first objective, or we have already failed!

What exactly will happen in the event of the conflict described?

I would like a forum with the natives to learn their local techniques for survival. Hunting, fishing, and farming. Maybe this effort will result in a better yield when we attempt these tasks ourself.
murraysheroes (526 D(B))
20 Mar 15 UTC
I think that keeping the colonists ignorant is a temporary fix. It will certainly work in our favor for a while--and perhaps a long while--but that strategy will inevitably backfire. The longer they're kept in the dark, the worse the backlash will be when it comes...I'd rather have to share the profits a bit now than have my head on a block later.

With that being said, we don't necessarily need to begin educating people right off the bat. We may need to get a feel for the island a little better before we start making sweeping changes.

One last thing: I'm one of those people who only checks the site once/twice a day (and sometimes I miss days on the weekends). I'm okay with the idea that a vote may occur without me--this thread is quickly getting unwieldy for someone who is not frequently online.
Atrum (458 D)

Here's a thought, what if we set up a separate thread which just contains the votes that need to be done, and when they need to be done by?
Atrum (458 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
Everyone can refer back to this thread for ongoing dialogue and discussion about the votes, but the other thread would literally just have the links for votes, and a brief primer on each vote.
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
20 Mar 15 UTC
Something to be said for moving deliberately and with some amount of caution. I think sharing education with natives is a necessity, but not an immediate need. I agree with murraysheroes that we don't need to court a backlash.

I also agree that we would do best to learn the local techniques...determine the sustainability of them and identify areas of improvement that don't upset the homeostasis of the ecology.

Councilor Atrum, the Magistrate informs you it is unclear how the colonists will react to adding children to the work force.

Alchemist: If the Councilors wish, I may observe the colonists and present my findings along with the Missionary.
Hamilton Brian (811 D(B))
20 Mar 15 UTC
I would not be in favour of adding children to the workforce. Is there an outstanding issue that has led to this coming to the fore?

I would also appreciate the Alchemist making objective observations of the colonists.

krellin wanted to put children to work. Specifically, he wanted to take young girls and keep them in a special home and have them work for fine clothing.
krellin (80 DX)

Heh heh...
murraysheroes (526 D(B))
20 Mar 15 UTC
I'm against adding children to the workforce at the moment as well. I'm willing to rethink that once we learn a bit more about the island and its population.

To reiterate, I strongly think we should be focused more on learning than on making changes at this point in time.

What is the definition of "child" on this island? At what age are people considered to be adults?
KingCyrus (511 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
(+1)
OK now, hold on. How young are we talking? I see no reason that children, especially over 13 or so, can't help out in an agricultural society in the 19th century. It's not like we have to worry about child labor laws here. I honestly think working is good for people. So long as we don't overwork the children for their age and ability, I see nothing wrong with this. I am also extremely doubtful that children would not help in their family's farm in the first place.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
20 Mar 15 UTC
The magistrate informs the council he will have more details when he has finished his census.
TrPrado (461 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC
I stand with murraysheroes on this one. The plan involves taking the children out of their home, and we don't know how the parents would react, and we don't know the parameters of "children". We will need to figure these things out. Further, what is the conflict of both the alchemist and missionary teaching the colonists?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
20 Mar 15 UTC
The magistrate informs councilor Prado that some councilors do not wish the missionary and alchemist to teach the colonists. The magistrate will have difficulty in forcing conflicting wishes of the council.
TrPrado (461 D)
20 Mar 15 UTC

Convoying Question - the roundabout
Let us suppose someone has an army in Yorkshire and a fleet in North Sea. However, the army is beset by enemies in London and Liverpool.
Our army in Yorkshire is going to be pushed out. If we assume the attack will come from London supported by Liverpool... could our army in Yorkshire, convoy through the fleet in North Sea and land again at the newly vacated London?
