Old Threads
I have a couple favorite threads that i have saved from my years on this site. Most of them are insightful or educational in a sense but there are a couple that i just laughed way too hard at to not be kept for later. Here is one such thread.

Fantastic game played by all participants. I had a feeling you were Turkey, SplitDiplomat. Congratulations England on securing a position for yourself in the draw. This is why we don't CD when things are looking rough, guys!

Email notifications?
I'm not receiving email notifications when someone messages me in-game and I'm finding that really surprising. Is that expected behavior?

FWIW, I originally used plus addressing and I'm wondering if that messed something up.

I am ever talking before the Spring 1901 moves. I just automaticly disliked you. Which is strange because i like your username, you are a meme, and I have gotten teh same press from a Turk before and liked it
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
Lol.. you are a meme. Love that

Yeah, rusty is okay. It can take a bit to get that back but you'll be fine. You have a clue about what you're doing and I didn't mean to blame you for the conflict when I asked you to make peace with Austria. I sent him the same message (of course he CD'd at that point, so you know..).
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
oh, and Vexx. if you are still reading this thread, I kind of didn't tell the whole truth about bo's history :P
CapnPlatypus (100 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Yeah, I more or less ignored your message. My reasoning (hence my reply) was that in that case, you and England would have to help me out more or less out of self-interest, and that would give me a little room to grow before the shit hit the fan. As it turns out, the Juggernaut didn't happen anyway.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
well, the Juggernaut DID happen in Fall 1901... just not for any of the other phases :P
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I wouldn't have expected you to. Still, I didn't trust the guy entirely but I admired how he worked to keep us both from biting each other (Kudos to you too, bro!).

I'm not very good at self-interest. What are we talking about?
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I told the truth somewhat, the side I see of bo is the side i told you. But I don't recall him ever beating me...

but yeah, he does try, so theres that :P

oh, and i lied about that to try to convince you to go after Germany.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
Lying is Diplomacy. Without it, you will never amount to anything.
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Wait, so... what was your lie, again? I've most totally forgotten what happened in that game.

But, regardless, as long as bo kept up the act of trying to keep us from stabbing one another, I wouldn't have stabbed. Partially because it would've be difficult and cumbersome, mostly for other reasons.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
except lying where it is not needed is classless (Turkey is for sure guilty of that one, bo might be guilty)
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I told you bo was ahorrible player who got stabbed all the time, basicly. And that he tries to influence/manpitulate actions all over the board, but generally fails :P
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
FD, I sometimes lie unnecessarily but I saw potential for it to be necessary. If it makes you feel any better, you would have probably taken Munich the next season o_O
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
meh... i don't think i would've. My position was off
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Oh. I'm not sure I believed you. I don't take people's words for full value--especially in this kinda game. Even if he was trying to manipulate me (were you?), I probably would've broken off once it stopped being in my interesting. He didn't really seem to be doing it though; it looked more like he was trying to actually work with me.

I wouldn't have stabbed him just because others did it before me. ;)

I would've stabbed him if my paranoia got the best of me, and he seemed to be moving against me (it would've been easier to see, considering the nets he was buildings).
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I'm still wondering why you bounced yourself on Munich, FD. >.>
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
My moves were ultra-aggressive to the point that I was going to swap Munich for Warsaw until you told me to SH everything. I had originally left Munich wide open.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
But i do see bo stabbed quite a lot.... been a while since i have seen bo do well in a game
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
did it make a difference, Vexx??? the result would'vee been the same
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
SH?

I would've helped him do well, provided he helped me do well. ;D
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
And Vexx, in spring 1901, I'm manipulating everyone because, unless I'm a certain yellow southeastern country, I don't know what I'm going to do right away. I didn't think you would move on France, so yeah, I guess I was. Like I said, I try and reward an established and productive alliance (check out the number of 17-17s or three-way draws I've tried versus solos even when I'm up). No doubt we had France right off the bat and I wasn't going to fight you for that. I told FD I would to try and get him to let his guard down. So yeah, there's your unnecessary lie...
Fortress Door (1837 D)

SH = support hold, our last moves were arranged
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Well, I don't recall what were the rest of the positions of Germany's forces, but I'm fairly sure you would've gotten a build out of taking Munich then. Fairly. I don't watch the /full/ board... only the parts directly related to mine. >.>
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Sep 12 UTC
It's always a good skill to develop if you can see the whole board at once.

FD, you're right, I'm bad in live games. That's why I don't play them much anymore. It took me a few weeks of playing nightly to figure it out..
Fortress Door (1837 D)

Well, i liked England the best out of the group. I was serious when i became England's vassal
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
I had actually tried to ally with France at the start, which is why he wasn't really expecting it. It was a genuine attempt for an alliance too, but I've never had an alliance with Germany before. So, since you were up--and you gotta take risks from time to time, right?--I just went with it.

The parts where I felt (kinda) manipulated were when I "agreed" to attacked France with you, and when you said you'd support me into Belgium. Other than that, you talked mostly like a partner.

Oh... SH being support hold makes sense... Whose last moves were arranged? >.>
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
mine and Germany's, notice the lack of agression?
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
It is a good skill, but I'm very very lazy and can only handle so much information at once. ;)

FD: Such a funny statement it was. Pretty sure you were fairly stronger than me at the time. Thanks for liking me best though! I feel loved! :D
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
So you two were in cahoots? Gasp!

I don't think I noticed at the time... maybe if more turns had played out.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
but i knew the press...

i perfer to think of it as "we have other shit to deal with, so stay away"
Vexx (173 D)
19 Sep 12 UTC
Staged suggests cahoots. ;)

I wonder what was Germany's other shit... Don't tell me you were gonna move on dear old England? ;D

Civil Order
My version of the most original, never-before-seen thread ever.

Two live games tonight. Two drawn games. One in 1901 builds, one in 1903 autumn. One because of a player whose name surprised me a bit to have CD'd; another who I suspected and even talked about with other players prior to the game.

The Case of the First-Cause Favorite
Pick something you're passionate about--a literary/TV/film series you love, a hobby you're really into, etc.--and say how you were first introduced to it, or if you can recall, what the first episode/story it was you first saw/read...

It'd be interesting to see not only what some of the choices here are, but how we came to pick them in the first place.
