I have to say the commercials for Assassin's Creed 3 look amazing. I hope you don't have to have experience with the first 2 to play it. I've never played them.

Mapu: I've only played a trivial amount of Revelations (and that was on an Xbox, not a PC, what I usually game on). I found it pretty easy to pick up. While it would have been nicer to play through the first few in the series just for the story, it wasn't necessary.

BLOPS2 looks like absolute crap. Call of Duty stopped being realistic or entertaining after World at War. Medal of Honor (and Battlefield for that matter) is a much better franchise all around.

I've never played Assassin's Creed before, but I'm a Splinter Cell veteran, so I'm hoping my skills translate.

Splinter Cell is a legendary series. I own the original Splinter Cell, Double Agent, and Conviction. I'm planning on picking up Chaos Theory as soon as I'm finished with Double Agent. Conviction is my favorite so far, just because it is much simpler and more organic than any other game. No complex gadgets or actions. Just sneak and kill.

Call of Duty is all about the multi player, which is pretty fun and addictive. I haven't played Splinter Cell since the original on the original XBOX. That one was fun -- I am sure it has come a long way.

Summaries of assassin's creed games inside, if you haven't played the series but plan to and start at the beginning you probably shouldn't read what's below.

@Mapu, one thing is just to let you know there are 4 games already in the series. First one is about Altair who becomes like the grandmaster of assassins basically. Second one is about Ezio while he is young and his revenge for his families death. Brotherhood is about Ezio being older and making the brotherhood in Rome. Revelations is Ezio being old and trying to learn about Altair and his revelations. The third is going to be about Connor, a Metis, fighting Templars during the revolutionary war and I don't know much more than that on the third. The entire series is linked by Desmond, his ancestors were these people and he relives their memories through the this animix or something, (I forget what it's called at the moment.)
More assassins creed summaries here. If you haven't played and don't want to know, don't read.

Desmond is a character in the future, where a corporation controlled by the modern-day version of the Templars uses the animix to explore history through someone reliving their ancestors' memories. Desmond escapes the corporation and joins the modern day Guild of Assassins and spends the series fighting the Templars in both past and present. In between is a whole load of conspiracy theories that they throw at you, linking the Templars to a history-long world domination since the Crusades. I play the games half for this background story, which goes from Adam and Eve all the way to some future apocalypse or something. Also, I only played 2 and Brotherhood. Haven't gotten around to the rest.

@ Mapu

If I'm looking for fun multiplayer, I'm going with Battlefield 3 or Battlefield Bad Company 2. Better weapons, vehicles, and non-tiny maps make for realistic sniping and long-range engagements.

I play Medal of Honor entirely for its ultra-realistic campaign, but I may try multiplayer on the new one.

If you want to get back into Splinter Cell I recommend starting with Conviction and working your way backwards. Conviction has the simplest gameplay, easily replayable levels and is also very easy to learn. Conviction is easily mastered. It was my first Splinter Cell game in years (I recently bought Double Agent and am slowly clawing my way through it on Easy, it's a much more challenging game). I beat Conviction a few weeks after buying it on Realistic difficulty straight through without dying or restarting, and I was only detected a handful of times.

Email notifications?
I'm not receiving email notifications when someone messages me in-game and I'm finding that really surprising. Is that expected behavior?

FWIW, I originally used plus addressing and I'm wondering if that messed something up.

Civil Order
My version of the most original, never-before-seen thread ever.

Two live games tonight. Two drawn games. One in 1901 builds, one in 1903 autumn. One because of a player whose name surprised me a bit to have CD'd; another who I suspected and even talked about with other players prior to the game.

The Case of the First-Cause Favorite
Pick something you're passionate about--a literary/TV/film series you love, a hobby you're really into, etc.--and say how you were first introduced to it, or if you can recall, what the first episode/story it was you first saw/read...

It'd be interesting to see not only what some of the choices here are, but how we came to pick them in the first place.

Why do some in game messages have an estimated time (~9:36pm for example) which is usually way off? Shouldn't a computer be able to know the exact time a message was sent?
