Look, Foreigners, I don't hate you guys, but
Like seriously, you all have no culture. Most of you don't even make good movies. Many of you talk funny, and don't eat enough meat. Try driving an SUV, it makes you feel powerful. And seriously, what do you do for role models? I mean you don't have ANYTHING that compares to Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. Also, why can't you afford designer clothes like a real person? USA, baby. USA.

Why does the timer NOT REFLECT THE ACTUAL TIME LEFT?
I noticed in a live game yesterday that a couple of times I changed my moves and hit "save" when the clock still said 2 seconds or something like that, but I got the "game has moved on, please refresh" thingy.

What is up with that? Why not have the clock actually indicate how many seconds you have left to get in your moves. Sometimes that can make a difference in a live game.

Germany and Russia are one and the same, because there is no reason to go relentlessly after someone, without gaining much or enough, exposing your entire back to the biggest power in the game, granting him the win.

I mean, waiting a year and a half after everyone else votes cancel because Russia failed to show to add the decisive 6th vote, only when the board starts turning against you, is kind of weak sauce.

WE WANT MOAR DUTCH AWESOMENESS
Francisco Elson and Dan Gadzuric are low-level NBA players, good enough to stay on rosters and make a pro NBA career but otherwise unremarkable.

"There's only one sport and that's Soccer." That right there kills your credibility with pretty much any American.

Baseball World Cup? Are you serious? No self-respecting baseball fan would even acknowledge that such a competition exists. MLB doesn't let pro players compete in it. You're boasting about your one medal in 2011? Even giving the BWC some respect -- which I don't -- that's the only BWC medal Netherland has ever won, over 70+ years. At least U.S. amateur players (and since 1998, minor leaguers) have picked up 15 medals in that timespan. But it doesn't matter, because BWC is a joke.

Good point about Rutger Hauer, missed him.

True, but you're only 300 mlln, that's less than 5% of the world's total population.

What the heck is ''soccer''?
ulytau (541 D)

Soccer is a term reserved for speaking with people who are not as cool as the Dutch and therefore cannot possibly understand what football is.

@ ulytau
Can the British be a part of that particular club too please?
ulytau (541 D)
11 Apr 12 UTC
Hmm, let's start an educational series for those who were so unlucky to not have any connection to the Netherlands and therefore cannot be blamed for they lack of understanding of football.

In football, you cannot touch the ball with your hand unless you're one of the following:
Goalie in the box
Luis Suárez
Thierry Henry
Diego Maradona
ulytau (541 D)

Of course, the British have the Dutch connection courtesy of Billy III & II.

Something about sports.

fulhamish (4134 D)
11 Apr 12 UTC
Hey redhouse on Max Euwe, I must reluctantly point out that the Americans had the great and wonderfully mad Paul Morphy, now there was a chess player.
THM started what? You created this thread about how Dutch are cooler than Americans. I thanked Dutch genes for Petra Verkaik, but questioned the coolness of wooden shoes. You cited brilliant Dutch artists, scientists, and tradesmen. I acknowledged some notables, gave you generally fair marks given your limited population, but noted a weakness in sports. You attempted to bolster a claim of Dutch sports supremacy based on one medal in 70+ years of an amateur baseball competition that nobody would even know about if not for wikipedia, and the position that soccer is the only sport that counts. Since like many Americans I consider soccer to be a boring fringe international sport ranking somewhere between hockey and synchronized swimming, I guess we're not going to see eye to eye on the value of Dutch accomplishments in soccer. Feel free to hug your many World Cup championship trophies and feel superior.
ulytau (541 D)
11 Apr 12 UTC
You started with sports, so redhouse pointed to a rather unremarkable World Chess Champon, who was nevertheless cool because he was Dutch.
Enhh, although I'm both a chess and bridge player, I don't really buy the "mental sports" angle despite what the IOC has approved. Is Diplomacy a sport?

the orange comes from William The Orange. thats pretty neat the king put a color in his name. I wish Obama was Obama the Magenta.

oh then William took over Britain after Cromwell's wee revolution. by take over he was welcomed by the British populous. probably because he was dutch and they wanted to have a cool king.

so in retrospect does that make Britain dutch?

In football, you cannot touch the ball with your hand unless you're one of the following:
Goalie in the box
Luis Suárez
Thierry Henry
Diego Maradona"

Don't lump Suarez with those guys, he got caught and took the punishment with some dignity. Maradona cheekily denied it and Henry played dumb until the ridicule fell away. You can say some bad things about Suarez (who incidentally played club ball in... THE NETHERLANDS, where he learned to be a bit of an asshole), but he's at least a step above the other two.

And while we're teaching about sports, the Dutch need to learn a few things:
The Baseball World Cup means nothing.
When playing football/soccer, one is supposed to remain on his feet unless physically unable to do so.
Putin33 (111 D)
12 Apr 12 UTC
"Don't lump Suarez with those guys, he got caught and took the punishment with some dignity. "

Dignity? You mean gloating on the sideline? Suarez and dignity don't go together. It's easy to take it with dignity when the "punishment" is absolutely nothing, since time expired.
ghug (5068 D(B))
12 Apr 12 UTC
He didn't gloat on the sideline. He walked off looking depressed and hung his assuming his team would lose anyway. He had every right to be happy when they didn't. What Suarez did may be considered objectionable, but he did it, he was punished accordingly, and it's not really hist fault that Ghana failed to capitalize. He willingly accepted the red card in order to give his team a chance to survive, and survive they did, that should be all there is to it. Compare that to players like Henry and Maradona who used their hands to give their teams goals, ensuring victory, and you see a clear difference.

Another Space Race--to Mars?
So, I was thinking, the one nice thing about the Cold War was that NASA got tons of money to just be awesome. People were excited about science and we developed a lot of cool technology. Why can't we have another Space Race? Surely China or India would be up for the challenge.
