On the Proper Usage of Fleets
A question came up in another thread about how fleets should best be deployed. Should they always stay in the ocean? Are they useful in coastal territories? How many fleets should one have? Etc.. Share your thoughts within.

I'll be off the grid Friday - Tuesday, can anyone help me out? I'm in two games, both as Turkey. I'm not stomping in either of them but I still have a role to play in the game arc.

Interested in a game?
So I just found out an old friend also plays Diplomacy and I've introduced him to the site. We've decided a live game on Thursday probably around 11am est would work best for his first game here, so I'm trying to find quality players who won't nmr. I haven't decided on specifics so far except for day and time so input is welcomed. If interested send me a pm or post below.

hilarity of the day
My little sister, 16, who I've always found to be a sharp young woman, mentioned today that she does not really know which months go in which order, something that to me seems should be a given part of any education. When I asked her, "Well, what the heck were they teaching you in 2nd grade?" she giggled and replied, "Jesus."

Good thing those private schools have their priorities straight, eh?

For all you religious types out there...
Question: is it more sinful to get a gay divorce than it is to get gay married? I mean, say you get gay married, BAM! You're going to hell for sure, right? But then you realize the error of your ways, and decide you want a gay divorce to get back into God's graces... but divorce is a sin too!

So is it better at that point to just stay gay married? Or is the the flames no matter what? I'm so confused...

An interesting little "bug" that could affect GR...
So, this game (gameID=64994) was drawn in the last half hour (around 9:45am), yet the time stamp says it ended at 5:30pm Eastern last night.

If this had been the first, instead of the 24th, this game could have been included in the previous month's GR. Something seems amiss there.

And I said if you had done something like that, I apologize. You have, so in that regards I apologize. But that doesn't excuse your fucking rude insistance that you have to know what he did to become a mod and what he does as a mod. In fact, you being a better person than me (I just give money to worthy causes) means you should be less of a douche bag fucktard than me, but you are being *more* of one towards Thucy and that makes you a mega douche bag fucktard.

Your tirade against me was really disappointing. I can understand, to a point, why you may have thought you needed to defend Thucydides from my question. But the judgemental and narrow way you thought you could presume facts about my life is pathetic and something I didn't think you would stoop to. I know you have a foul mouth on you and thought that's fair game where you're concerned but the kind of judgemental presumptious personal attack you made on me was uncalled for. You'll probably have some foul-mouthed must-have-the-last-word retort for this but I just wanted to say I'm disappointed. That's the last I'll say on this.

"I ask that earnestly and without malice or jest. I ask because some mods here have a really obvious positive effect on the enjoyment of this website: Geofram, yebellz, abgemacht, fortknox, whereas Thucydides' contribution seems, on the face of it, to be mostly that of a forum troll."

What about that was honest? You insinuate that the other mods somehow make the sight more enjoyable but Thucy doesn't then you reinforce that implication by stating all you see him do is be a forum troll. I would have come to *any* mods defense with a rude fucking post like that. You nor I know what the mods do behind the scenes. We don't know what any given mod's role is in their discussions as investigations are condusted. All we see is the end result of a mod banning a player or clearing their name. But the mods have stated that they talk about the investigations and discuss the results and appropriate actions between them. So the mod who takes action isn't the only one involved in the decision. But you have the audacity to imply he does none of that. Fuck you, mega father fucking, assmunching fucktard.

In case anybody was wondering, a "mega-fucktard" is the pink leotard that Fag-Naur's mother wears in her latest granny-porn videos. It differs from the regular fucktard in that it has a hole cut out over her stinky asshole, along with the hole cut out over her stinky pussy.

Draug will stoop anywhere, hes got quite a temper
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

"Where have you come from with this jmo? I didn't ask about a role in terms of the forum. I asked about him as a mod."
And that's what everyone answered, the mods work on the mod email, as Abge pointed out in a thread several days back. I guess I'm not understanding how you don't see your questioning the judgment of Kestjas, and the other people who gave thucy mod status, as offensive and rude.
Regardless, sorry to have helped derail your thread here, again, good luck on your trip/work.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
22 Oct 11 UTC
@jmo: "And that's what everyone answered" By 'everyone' you actually only mean you (who misinterpreted my question) and Draugnar, who only sought to personally attack me in the most vitriolic of ways.

"I guess I'm not understanding how you don't see your questioning the judgment of Kestjas, and the other people who gave thucy mod status, as offensive and rude."

Again you're wrong. I was NOT questioning judgement. I was asking what he did, that was all. And, regardless, questioning is a basic human right - US Presidents appoint judges to the supreme court but you can still question their choices - debate and, even less, simple questions are not forbidden. This isn't China.

Draugnar (0 DX)

@Tom - I respect you, but Sarg's question implied a certain disdain towards Thucy getting those powers by stating the other mods by name and saying they had done something to improve the enjoyment of the site and then going on to ask what Thucy has done to enhance the enjoyment here. It *was* rude

All I did was point out what Thucy did in the leagues in the past and questioned Sarg's right to question Thucy's qualifications considering Sarg's qualifications on the site are him being a short-timer. Sarg says we have a right to question. So I asked one. He then jumped on my ass and told me to "get off my fucking high horse". I believe that was the first use of *any* profanity. So I dressed him down in kind, with profanity laden insults and the like cause *he* was the douche he started cussing first.

Don't believe me? Here is the exchange from above. You can read it above as well and see I cut nothing from it.

Draugnar (7 )

(+2)@sarg - Mods really don't have a set role on the forum. There "job" is to handle cheating accusations and keep the games running smoothly. For that, Thucy did an outstanding job and will again when he returns. Oh, and you haven't even been here a year yet think you are in a position to judge a long-standing member (4 years for Thucy) based on your 9 months experience here?

Sargmacher (1531 )
01:14 PM
+1How long do I have to be here, draug, before I am allowed to ask earnest questions about others here?

1. Is there a time limit I missed when I joined?
2. Why is 9 months experience not valid enough in your eyes?
3. I am a member who has donated to this site, does that not give me some right to even talk about this kind of stuff?

I know my petty 9 months will never stand up to Thucydides wonderous 4 year relationship with this website but I think I can at least ask and raise this. As I said, I wasn't being rude or malicious. Just that all I see of Thucydides is trolling on the forums - it is nice to hear that you have a personal experience of him doing an outstanding job dealing with other issues.

Sargmacher (1531 )
01:15 PM
+1I never said that I was in a position to judge Thucydides - that is why I was asking. So please get off your fucking high horse.

Now, tell me again what I said to deserver "get off your fucking high horse" and how *I* started the personal attacks? A asked why he felt he had the experience on the site to judge one of it's long standing members when he was a short timer. He never di *answer* my question and isntead blew up at me.

So again, Sargmacher is a mega fucktard. An assmunching, father fucking, necrophiliac who fucks his great grandfather's skull every fucking night.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
22 Oct 11 UTC
I still believe you are more the instigator and in the wrong here. Sarg asked what contributions Thucy has made to deserve mod status. It was NOT a judgement or an attack. I believe he asked politely and in a way to try not to offend anyone, especially Thucy.

"A asked why he felt he had the experience on the site to judge one of it's long standing members when he was a short timer. He never di *answer* my question and isntead blew up at me."

You did not ask why he thought he had enough experience to judge a member. You told him that he did not. I believe that is why you got the "get off your fucking high horse" response. You implied that because he has only been here 9 months, which to me is a pretty substantial time to call someone a short timer, that he can't be informed enough to make statements or ask questions.

Also, then you went off on some tangent about who is a 'better person' which quite obviously has nothing to do with being a mod. Jack the Ripper could be a better mod than Gandhi. What the hell does being a good person have to do with it.

I think we should all just let this simmer down. Sarg got his answer: " Mods really don't have a set role on the forum. There "job" is to handle cheating accusations and keep the games running smoothly. For that, Thucy did an outstanding job and will again when he returns. " And Thucy was not offended by Sarg's comments.
Draugnar (0 DX)
22 Oct 11 UTC
He implied that because he hadn't seen anything Thucy had directly done to increase the enjoyment of the site, that Thucy didn't deserve it. Try reading it again. The implication is clearly there.

The better person comment was after I was told to get off my "fucking high horse". He struck first. I struck back intending to kill. Attack me and I put you in the grave. I did it to a guy in real life once (well unconcious in the hospital with three broken ribs, a collapsed lung, a broken jaw, and a skull fracture, but still). I believe in the Chicago way.

And no, I wasn't charged. He had pulled a knife so the DA ruled it self defense and didn't press charges.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
22 Oct 11 UTC
Tom interprets it exactly right. Draugnar you swooped in and basically told me in other words that I had no experience, no legitimacy and that I should shut up. That is high horse behaviour.

I don't feel like you've 'killed me' as you suggest in these pathetically aggressive metaphors. You were wrong to personally attack me in such a 'better person' kind of way and whilst you apologised before, it's disappointing that you would even go there - especially as I thought we had a good rapport.

I accepted your apology and as I said before, just get a grip and let this go. I don't know why you're still here arguing about it hours later.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
22 Oct 11 UTC
I see no such implication. He asked why Thucy deserved it. I see nothing wrong with that question, and the first part of your response before you told him he wasn't on this site long enough to speak up.
