Gunning for the Gunboat-3 Discussion
I don't think Turkey understands that this is a WTA game.
He gets nothing for letting Russia wins.
And I played poorly as Italy. I tried to stop the Jugger but France kept attacking me and not sending a fleet to safeguard the Ionian.

Why No in-game messaging?
Isn't the main purpose of "Diplomacy" communications? Why are there lots of games that specify No in-game messaging? Just curious. Unless the game is anonymous, I would be worried about lots of private communications.

What an awesome weekend, and what a thrilling and entertaining experience. I am so glad to play in this community with not just such talented and skilled players, but also such great human beings. After this weekend, I am an even bigger fan of our community.

I hope to be able to help in organizing the next one.

A few more thank you's: the Boston dipping community for stepping in to help us get 3 boards, and Alex in particular for being such a great sport, playing doubles and having such a great attitude; abge + crazyter who can't be thanked enough; joey, wizard, ybells, and others who helped with the logistics; wiz for coming up with all those prizes; and all the people I played with over this action packed weekend.

Can't wait to see you all next time.

@Babak: Stats of all kinds tell me you must be a splendid player to watch. And every thing I've read under your name has "class" written all over it. I would be honoured to see you around a board with me. If you have the time and fancy the type of game, I've just created this one (and invited a few good players to join already): gameID=61317
If not now, soon I hope!
Congrats on your tourney!

This somehow posted to the wrong thread so here goes again...

I need pictures of CrazyTer. I introduced here to phpDip/webDip but have never actually met her. We met in the Judges where we were against two others, one of whom didn't know the primary rules of diplomacy: win then draw then survive, then screw the others. When he couldn't win, he decided to screw the others and not help CT and I stop the solo.

I can't say enough good things about the Boston F2F this weekend. First, the highest-quality players I have played against, many of whom are in the top 100 (and top 5!) on the Ghost Ratings- I know why after playing with them. Also a pleasure to play with some F2F-only players. Second, just a wonderful group of people. Fantastic attitude and smiles even as the daggers came out! Third, incredibly well organized, thanks to abgemacht and CrazyTer. Thank you all who participated. I look forward to seeing you at the next F2F and online.

Before I collapse and sleep for the next 12 hours, I'd like to say a few things:

1) When organizing an event like this (especially one involving people from the internet) I'm always hesitant about how it will work out. Words cannot express how happy I was with the result. It was honestly worth every minute I spent planning. I appreciate all the words of thanks, but I want you to know that I am equally grateful to all of you, as you were all an important part in making this tournament a great success.

2) Over the next few days, I will be posting tons of detailed scores, pictures and videos.

3) I would very much like to turn this into an annual event (not necessarily in Boston). In a month or so, I'll start talking about how to plan for the next event (if no one has done so already).

As usual, I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best... and everything FAR exceeded what I imagined the best could possibly be, what a blast, well worth the trip from Oregon!!

Congrats to Babak on his solo and tournament victory, extremely well done, just as we all expected.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone and I honestly have a new-found enthusiasm for the game, which is a welcome surprise. Much thanks to all involved, especially those putting in extra time and energy organizing and running the tournament, I am still a bit in awe of what an amazing experience it was...
TheWizard (5364 D(S))

I agree with all that was said here.

Big thanks to abgemacht and Crazyter for everything they put into this from me as well.

Also thanks to the FtF regulars who helped out and from the one I played against, I learned a lot during that game. Special thanks to Alex for playing 4 countries on saturday again.

Congrats to Babak. That primes you for organizing the next one on a beach venue in Florida. But seriously, impressive, man. In many aspects.

Everything was really good. Venue, food, people, Boston,... So good that I am seriously thinking about going back next week for the Massacre......
The only problem I will have now is that I know the people behind the webdip names.... turned out, Marx, Babak, abgemacht, etc. are actually great guys and not giant a*******, how can I stab them now? ;)

Best moment of the tournament for me was Babak's reaction when on the final table I threatened him to throw the game to MM if he moves one step closer to me and he realized that was not an empty threat and the implications that would have on the current board and the tournament.

Also, I can understand Marxes new-found enthusiasm...same for me.

now.... sleep!

Wow congrats again to Babak, and thanks again to everyone for a great time. I am bummed I couldn't make it this morning on account of my drunken friend but despite that and despite my poor showing I had the best time. I second and third a new enthusiasm for this game and for this community. You guys are great and I hope to see you again in future tournaments.

Also can't wait to see the scores and hear what happened in today's games!

Boston FTF was phenomenal. abgemacht and Crazyter did a wonderful job organizing every thing and they can't be thanked enough. Thank you, abgemacht, Crazyter, and everyone else that helped with making this an awesome tournament.

It was amazing meeting and playing with all of you. So many excellent players and excellent people. I was thrilled to be playing with some of the top players from this community. They were by far the best I've ever played with and I certainly see why their rankings are well-deserved.

Everyone had a great attitude, even while sliding in the knife or receiving it, making for a very enjoyable tournament even in the ups and the downs. Thanks for making this an awesome first FTF diplomacy experience. It was a pleasure playing with all of you!

Congrats to Babak for taking the only solo (in 1906!) and for winning the tournament.
Congrats to MadMarx, TheWizard, and mscott for taking second, third and forth place, respectively and the 4-way draw (with Babak) in the final round top-7 game.
Alex (the local Boston FTFer) was the "Best Sport" for playing two games simultaneously through the first two rounds and took 5th place.

By the way, I have pictures (107, ~500 MB) and videos (4 @ 1.2 GB). I gave them all to abgemacht. We'll have to figure out how to upload and share them... perhaps imgur and vimeo (HD vid support)? Also, maybe we get permission from those involved before we upload. Does anyone have any objections to the pictures or videos of them being released?

Videos:
1) Babak's solo victory. End of adjudication and center counting, followed by several solid minutes of EOG commentary from Babak, Crazyter, Joey and Thucy.
2) Babak receiving his 1st place awards, certificate, game set, and real-life dip points.
3) MadMarx and TheWizard receiving their 2nd and 3rd place awards.
4) Superlative prizes being announced and handed out by TheWizard, Crazyter, and abgemacht.

Wiz, I liked how you described to me Babak's reaction to your threat of throwing a solo to me at the final table, Babak literally jumping in the air in anger, a la Rumplestilskin, I get a good laugh out of imagining that and Babak thinking I might have actually gotten a solo on the final table and stolen his thunder, but alas that was not meant to be as Babak immediately marched to the beat of your drum! ;-)

I personally didn't expect to do very well at this tournament, with limited F2F experience, and am very proud to have finished in second place. I am especially proud of, after drawing Austria in the final table and finding out in the pregame that Italy/Russia/Turkey planned a triple alliance to immediately kill me, that I ultimately won the final table amongst very high quality competition... which leads me to a challenge for Babak:

After Babak had to catch a flight home, the other six players at the final table proposed a rematch, 36 hour phase, 5 point bet, WTA, non-anon game. Babak, do you accept our challenge, in an attempt to keeping living the Boston Experience?!?!

Sending PMs about the final table reunion game, happy to play more, to be honest, every player at the FtF was top notch and i feel honoured to have played with each one. There was no fighting, no real argument, and a lot of excellent plays. that dip coin we got could be worth 10000 D on the site and there wouldnt be a single person who didnt deserve it.
