Firefox Forum Bug
This is the second time I've noticed this. Has anyone else gotten it?

When there is just one post on the newest page in a thread, my FF4 will not recognize that that page exists until that page has a second post.

Ankara Crescent anyone?
So many threads lately have been dark and angry... How about we all lighten up with a game of Ankara Crescent? Standard map and the '46 revisions, if you don't mind.

The bank rejects your transfer and sends the money back to me, as the Caman Islands don't exist.

I concur. They are probably the first places to get nuked. Meanwhile, in Australia, I take a bunker in the outback and wait out the apocalypse

Being as the routing number and account number were correct, the Swiss bank resubmits the transfer and it goes through. I immediately withdraw the funds and stash it in my Inwood Security Vault custom designed with 7 locks, including a magnetic lock placed on an internal power supply connected to a 5 year capacity UPS.

Strangest game of Ankara Crescent I have ever seen.

Ber-Kiel.

@TBroadly - are we playing by the '46 revisions that were written in 1844 & 1845 but compiled into the disputed '46 Revisions document presented in Dublin or the '46 Revisons written in 1946 but published a year later? I have assumed you didn't mean the 46 revisions issued in March 1978 but later revised?

New derivative called SAC (pSychotic Ankara Crescent).

F Bla S StP-Kiel to you, Maniac. How’s that for a bounce?
TBroadley (178 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
@Maniac: actually, I was thinking of the set also known as the Indian Revisions, as they were first played on the day of India's indepndence. Not much of a difference between that and the 1844-1845 revisions.
Maniac (184 D(B))
02 Jun 11 UTC
@TBroadly - "Not much of a difference..." are you mad? We can't play a game where the rules we are playing by are not much different. I need certainty or i'm going home.
Maniac (184 D(B))
02 Jun 11 UTC
@Aurevir - wasn't bouncing abolished under the bungee convention?
TheFlyingBoat (2743 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
I am sorry but the bounce was reinstated during the Zephyr Convention of 2009, so that move is legal and as such I now proceed to move Bud-Ser
Pete U (293 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
@Maniac - given that the move to Switzerland was allowed, it's perfectly clear which '46 revisions we are dealing with, as the Extra-Territorial Pre-Neutral Advanced-Occupancy Clause (ETNPAOC) is clearly in effect.

With that in mind, I'll use the Ash Cloud Avoidance Gambit and move to Iceland
spyman (424 D(G))

I always see these Ankarra Crescent threads and I never have any idea what people are talking about. Lol.
Maniac (184 D(B))
03 Jun 11 UTC
@spyman - a quick google search will explain Ankara Crescent in the same way it explain everything else.

As an aside what do you all think of the proposal drafted out by the rules committee to rewrite rule two fom. "Ankara Crescent can only be played in a tearoom between the hours of three and four in the afternoon" to "Ankara Crescent can only be played in a tearoom or internet cafe between the hours of three and five in the afternoon."

@Pete U - I like that Ash Cloud Avoidance Gambit popularised by Ryan O'Hair, I'll move to Greenland on the volcanic plume express.
spyman (424 D(G))
03 Jun 11 UTC
Well I just googled it and the top link led to a webdip post by rlumley (aka smiley) from 2009. Apart from that and a couple other webdip threads there wasn't any other explantation (I am sure there is one if I tried harder but I am feeling lazy).
Maniac (184 D(B))
03 Jun 11 UTC
As I said google explains Ankara Crescent in the same way it explains everything else.
TBroadley (178 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
@Maniac: Pete U's correct. I thought it would be obvious which revision we were playing with... If you still need help looking it up, check out Dustin Hoffman's "Hollywood and Ankara Crescent", page 793, section A4, article 17.
largeham (149 D)

I think the main problem with rule two is that it is quite ambiguous. It does not specify if the rule applies to a specific timezone, and therefore people in other zones must cater their times to it; or whether it is 3 to 5 regardless of timezones. Remember the Crisis of 1988?

I also move Moscow to Sevastopol (east coast).
The American army in Bulgaria (deployed from Aitos Logistics Center -- AMERICAN EMPIRE GOGOGO!) moves to Ankara via hydrogen blimp (FUCK YOU PHYSICS WE DON'T NEED YOUR SHIT).
Maniac (184 D(B))
03 Jun 11 UTC
@Largeham - I agree, we couldn't possibly have an abiguous rule.
Maniac (184 D(B))
03 Jun 11 UTC
Nice work president Eden. Play again?
I'm afraid it's not over yet. Physics didn't take kindly to my call out and it appears my army crash-landed in Adana. Most embarrassing development... anyway, carry on.

The American army in Adana relocates to Incirlik Air Base in İncirlik, Turkey to rest and recuperate.
largeham (149 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
I propose modifying Rule Two: "Ankara Crescent can only be played in a tearoom between the hours of three and four in the afternoon." By adding that the times three to four are based on the timezone of GMT+8 and take place in the afternoon, i.e. between seven and eight a.m. GMT.
TBroadley (178 D)

Things are getting tense. There's only one way to break this game wide open...

Dollis Hill.
I have no choice but to order my army to salt the earth in and around Smolensk.
Draugnar (0 DX)
03 Jun 11 UTC
I surround Smolensk using the Pretzel Defense (intertwined tanks continuously rolling around the city and being refueled by A10 Warthogs with their tank busters replaced by external fueltanks and delivery systems). Smolensk is saved.
I'm sorry Draugnar, you seem to have forgotten the Bittenburg Convention on Sodium of 1777, in which subsection 41A clearly states that "no salted pretzels may be allowed on the battlefield at any time". Check and mate.
Pete U (293 D)
03 Jun 11 UTC
Aha. It's not mate, thatwasawkward. I retreat a bishop to Black Sea, using the Russian Orthodox Schism
Draugnar (0 DX)
03 Jun 11 UTC
But, thatwasawkward, the whole point of the Pretzel Defense was to keep the salt off the battlefield. son instead, I have *unsalted* pretzels on the battlefield and am not in violation of Bittenburg '77.

Which CD is worse: Start, Mid or End Game?
I CDed first thing in a gunboat earlier today. My bad. Thanks to kind.of.slow for wiping me out so that 'Resign' tag on my profile stays at 1. I think the best time to CD is right out of the gates; at least the game can develop without any nasty surprises. I'm curious what the WebDip hive mind has to say on the topic.

"Their efforts are specially impressive given that we are working in the shadow of the tribunal's completion strategy and the resulting lack of job security for our staff"

How Not to form a Gunboat Stalemate Line
Maybe it's a good teaching point, maybe it's sour grapes after putting in three hours in what was a solid gunboat. At anyrate, gameID=60516 has an endgame that some of you might have to see to believe.
