Support move Question
If a unit is going to attack my army, with support, can I 'move' to the supporting unit (in this case sweden) to block the move/support move? Will doing this thwart a move into my territory since I have tried and failed to take the unit he was supporting the move from, causing me to still be in my land (norway)?
Does that work? Or make sense?

This has the stench of a set-up, and a rather disgusting one - using rape.

Eric Mead and Nathan Barnes have set up a site for pod casts on Diplomacy play. They just interviewed me on the play of Italy in the third segment. (I think my interview starts a little more than half way through the podcast).

Playing Italy... does anyone have issues playing Italy?
Check out this link that Edi Brison shared:
http://diplomacycast.com/files/other/DiplomacyCastEp3.mp3

start around minute 20 for a great conversation and detailed explanation of how to play well with Italy. Much of this will be boring for experienced players, but newer players or early to mid-level players should listen to improve their games dramatically.

Orders Not Being Recieved . . . .
Are any other players experiencing issues where orders after end of turn ARE NOT correlating with the orders you submitted? A couple of other players are saying “that’s not the orders I submitted” in more than one game and now I’ve experienced the same thing. I have 75+ games on this site under my belt and previously have calked up the incident as player error but this seems utterly peculiar to have actually been submitted under any circumstances.

Rules for Drawing a Game?
At what point does a game become officially drawn, even if one of the parties has not voted that way. Is there a way to "force" a draw? (with a moderator's help perhaps?)

Draugnar (0 DX)
19 May 11 UTC
I'm confused. I don't check PMs if I'm in a live game due to time constraints. I think it very unfair of the mods to expect that quick of a reply before force drawing a game.
☺ (1304 D)
19 May 11 UTC
Oh please, Draugnar, you're just being a contrarian. The game should have been drawn, response or not.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 May 11 UTC
I don't know cause I wasn't in it and haven't looked. I'm just making a point to the mods and forum posters that sometimes when someone is in a live game, they don't have time to check PMs or the forum. So expecting someone to respond to an admin PM in a very short period is expecting too much. We have an obligation to respond but the rules don't give a time frame for that response. If we are to be expected to respond within 5 or 10 minutes, then a notification system needs to be built in to the site. Otherwise the mods should have paused the game so they could have time to get the response. It just seems a bit excessive is all.
Babak (26982 D(B))

turkey - you could have prevented a 6way draw.

what you needed to do was to drop back to the lower stale-mate line. same exact number of centers, but instead of your current positions, you'd hold the following:

sev sup mos
ukr+gal sup war
vie sup boh
tyl watches some youtube videos.

same thing in the south - pull back to hold tunis, but not threaten #18. so for example
ion sup tun
nap sup tys
tus sup pie

had you done that, this could have been a 3way TGE draw instead of a 6way.

also - in the middle of them being greedy and stabbing, you actually might have been able to launch a surprise attack while F and R were pissed off (AH would be long dead) which might have gotten you an 18th dot.

but what an amazing job by the 6 to hold on for so long for this draw.

me personally though, if what I did above did not work, I'd move further back to a 13 center defensible position instead... I would definitely rather have a cancel than a draw in a situation like this.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
19 May 11 UTC
@Draug

If the player in question didn't spend the last 6+ turns holding every unit *and* he didn't post in this thread twice after I asked him to reply to my PM, I'd be more sympathetic to the whole "too busy to respond" excuse.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
19 May 11 UTC
"Otherwise the mods should have paused the game so they could have time to get the response."

This is simply a silly suggestion. Once a live game is paused, I could never unpause it because I can't force people to come back and play a live game. If I had paused the game, it would have been a de facto draw.

@Babak

I can think of no situation in which I would force a cancel against someone's will. Holding at a stalemate line waiting for a player to NMR is *not* a valid tactic and was clearly what this player was doing. That doesn't warrant a cancel; it warrants a draw.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 May 11 UTC
Fair enough. Had he been moving and not reponding here, you would have handled it different? That's all I wanted to know.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
19 May 11 UTC
Yes, if the situation was different, I would have acted differently.
Draugnar (0 DX)
19 May 11 UTC
Can the mods turn off gunboat on the fly? That could have helped. Then you could pause it for 15 minutes, tell the player in question to meet you in pm and resolved it. Just an idea.

Provocatively Ignorant Political Thread Title With Unnecessary Question Mark?
Tired and morally objectionable claim made in the thin veil of a poorly-worded question? Mention of pseudo-scientific evidence and popularity of ignorant belief, segueing into totally absurd conclusion about the world which I seek to defend at length because I've already made up my mind.
