Of course, we attempt to communicate with the person in a number of ways, but there comes a point where we have to decide between allowing them off or not, and we cannot make not communicating a way to avoid being acted upon for cheats.

these punishements seem a little heavy handed. im curious how anyone is "sure" that these two accounts are owned by the same person. I would also be curious to know if both have been notified by the mods, not just the spammer.

This communication conversation has nothing to with the fact of noahjf being banned! because as I have understood, the moderators didn't even contact noahjf before they banned him! For the sake of his profile, I say that he should have been contacted since it wasn't even noahjf that did the crime. It was metagamer1! The act of metagamer1 should, as I have admitted, receive a ban. It was a stupid act. But the noahjf profile was not the one that committed the acts and therefore, if the moderators wish to stay true to their promises, they should contact him with a warning and give him a chance to redeem himself. Ghostmaker, I'm just asking you to give noahjf a chance. I'm sure he won't do this act again and with the ban of metagamer1, he won't have a second account. Please, if you could just send him an email and see what he says. This is all I ask for. But in the end it is your decision.

@JonathanDivine - I can almost guarantee that the mods did attemopt to contact *both* of the banned accounts. And multiaccounting means "owning more than one account" and is against the rules whether they play together or not. Normally the mods will just ban the second account and put you on probabtion unless you were points farming, but his actions of spamming with pornographic crap and clearly not responding to TGM put him in the "worst of the worst" category and he got what he deserved.

So you admit that the two accounts were linked but that one of the accounts shouldn't be banned as the infractions were by the other account? They are the same person!

So if someone were to create a second account to give the first account supply centres during a game then the first account should not be penalised? This would just lead to a third account, fourth account and so on being set up by the original account holder every time his alternative account was banned.

I'm with oliver1uk here. Are you arguing they're the same person or are you arguing that they're not? Cuz if they're the same person, then both accounts deserve banning.

Ok. I just said that they did not contact him. I know this for a fact! And what is the ground point of placing the multi-accounting rule? To make sure people don't use their accounts together in games to achieve a win! I am sure that that rule wasn't made just cause someone felt like making a randome rule. metagamer1 was the account duplicate account. metagamer1 was the account that spammed. metagamer1 should be the account that's banned. noahjf did nothing with association to this account.This account was true to the purpose of diplomacy. Ban metagamer1. Don't ban noahjf. And if noahjf was to receive a ban, he should be contacted first at the very least. I see this as an outrage! I will continue to support my opinion! The proper justice should be served!

@JonathanDivin and @DonQuijote - I know you are both friend of noahjf, so you can tell him that this site rules are clear that you can´t have two accounts, and don´t matter if he was successfull in winning the game or not, it´s just against the rules and a clear cheating on other players, so his both accounts should be banned.
The spamming is just another issue and probably make the mods have even less patience to deal with this kind of cheating.

So, either JonathanDivin is another multi for noahjf (because he knows "for a fact" noahjf wasn't contacted and attempted to contact the mods) or he doesn't realize that his friend saying "they didn't contact me and I tried to contact them) is hardly a fact and is, in fact, tainted by the fact that the friend in question was a cheat whose credibility, therefore, was suspect to begin with. Fact means first hand evidence, not your "firend's word" and the only way you could have first hand evidence would be if you were he and he were you, JD. Otherwise, your evidence could easily have been tampered with by the suspect (attempts to communicate with him permanently deleted from his in box and deleted items folder before you saw his email for instance).

Well it's good to know that so long as I call myself by a different name, I'm immune from prosecution. Hooray justice!

And JonathanDivin, Noah (I'll assume that's the account owner's name) is the PERSON who spammed, who made a duplicate account, and who broke the rules.

Now, only Noah and the mods know whether he was contacted "for a fact." Noah breaks rules, spams articles on Donkey Punching, and acts like an idiot. The mods dedicate their time for free so we all have a fun place to play games. If it's their word against his, I trust them. No matter what else you say, you admit that he broke the rule against having multiple accounts. All of us are warned about what will happen if we do that. What exactly are you arguing? That noahjf is above the rules? That there was some reason why his second account shouldn't count as a second account? All you're doing is acting as though the player has multiple personalities, each of whom has their own account, and the other account cannot be held responsible for what one account does.

If noahjf is so broken up about it, he can make a new account, follow the rules, and not be an idiot about it.

We almost always contact people before we ban them, because there is normally a degree of doubt involved. In this case, there was no doubt whatsoever, and so I didn't waste time on him that could be better spent dealing with other people's issues. If he considers that rude or discourteous, perhaps he should have thought twice himself before placing himself so firmly in the position of persona non grata.

Spamming obscene comments of that nature on the site is not in any way acceptable and will result in your account being banned, regardless of whether you put in the effort to make it more difficult for the mods by making a second account.

I play an MMO with noahjf, were friends, loosely, but friends. i know for a fact as well he wasnt contacted. this is ridiculous. my guess? Someone forgot to message noahjf, no malice. but for gods sake dont ban noah cuz he never got an email... if meta is a false account, then hes not going to get the message there, as its using a throwaway email more than likely. just bring himm back man, this is ridiculous

People should let noahjf fight his own dang battles, if he wants to come back he should contact the mods on his own.

The individuality of the accounts in Diplomacy is what gives the games their players. The purpose of creating an account is to join a game and play fairly with others. The rule against multi-accounting, as I have said, is to prevent two accounts holding the same mind, and therefore same intentions, from combining to gain an upper hand. I agree with rule, and its purpose. However, I know of many people, for I have many friends that play Diplomacy, that have multiple accounts (up to 4!), but they do not use these accounts together in games. This I tolerate. And I do in this situation as well. Now, I will make clear that I do not possess any more accounts than the one I am using currently. Noahjf and I are not the same account as some of yall have chosen to accuse me of without petty connections. The point is, is that the accounts of his never assisted each other, containing only one mind of his in one game at a time. Reason assumes that this is not cheating. Noah's account has done nothing wrong. Metagamer's has. Noah's must be unbanned to assume the individuality of the account. Noah must be unbanned.

It isn't for you to say what is and is not acceptable. As the rules clearly state, "second accounts are not allowed under any circumstances". Making a multiple account in order to break another rule (e.g. by spamming the forums) is not acceptable.

@JonathanDivin - you are only drawing suspicion on yourself by continuing to comment. You yourself have played (and profited off of) several games with noahjf.

"No-Multiaccounting" is an easy rule to follow, and it makes sense as well. Even if you have several accounts that don't play each other in the same game, it is a violation of a basic rule with no benefits (why would you do such a thing anyways?), there is no excuse for what noahjf did, he should remain banned.

Again, strange that JonathanDivin (who gained many points working with noahjf) is coming to the "rescue" of a multi... hmm... maybe you should just keep your mouth shut.

I happen to know both JonathanDivin and noahjf in real life, and they are most definitly NOT the same person on different accounts. They're also close friends. So, MAYBE... they were in games together because... *GASP* THEY'RE FRIENDS!

Also, noahjf should get a second chance if he was banned without warning. On almost every website I know of, before a person can be banned, for any reason, they have to be warned. I have a few friends who were banned once, and they all were warned prior to being banned. And if they had multiple accounts, only the account with the offense against it was banned. I understand that in a multiaccounting case, it would be logical to ban all accounts to prevent further cheating. However, he should have been warned. As of now, it is not a "fair" ban.
