Interesting Discussion.
It struck me we haven't had any interesting ethical/political/historical/other debates for a while, and they're always good. Unfortunately I can't think of a topic...

Tell djbent how hot she is

I have two things to say. One somewhat serious, the other less so... to a degree.

A)
What the fuoch is with the constant sexualization of that which passes for female on the forum? (I assume that dj, Akroma, Biddis, etc etc are female, but lets face it, the vast majority of us have never seen evidence for this). Have we not moved on as a culture guys?

Why must every topic that involves the aformentioned self-described girlies or women be subjected to blatant and embarrassing attempts at sexual humour? There is a difference between a gentle joke, and continued prodding that borders on harrassment. If I were a female I would feel pissed at the mild, but most definitely present, misogeny clearly evidenced by the persitence and volume of topics such as this one.

Please boys, stop obsessing about virtual women and find one you can touch.

(Sorry about my likely-misplaced rant, I am just slightly annoyed) :D

B)

Back to the topic at hand; though I cannot obviously speak to physical appearance, I can attest that djbent is indeed hot in a number of measureable ways.

For instance, skill-wise dj is generally 'hot', as evidenced by her persistent ability to smell out and destroy my stabs before they happen.

Secondly, in all of our games together we have generally been uncomfortably close and touching throughout the majority of the game. I am now recovering from second-degree burns.

That is all mates. Good day.

@kaiser:
Sorry bud, but with that attitude I doubt you ever will.. All the hot *and* smart women (of which there are plenty) know better than to waste their time with men who don't believe in their existence. ;)

Hey, Friendly, I absolutely agree with you. =)

jbalcorn (429 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
@FS. I would not comment on DJBent's "hotness" if it weren't for the fact that she engages in light-hearted banter of a sexual nature on the forum of her own accord. And yes, she could be a 50-year-old guy in his mother's basement...I have no evidence to the contrary except my gut instinct from talking to her.

The same goes for Akroma, although I am less sure of her bonafides as a woman, as I have had less interaction with her. :-)

I generally do not engage in that kind of banter about the other self-identified women on the site, except when Biddis is drunk and asking for it :-)

Looks mean nothing It's all about attitude. And on that front, I'd say my dear ms. bent fits the bill qiuite nicely.
Xapi (194 D)

@ Friendly Sword:

I think Miss bent has shown in many opportunities that she can speak for herself, and defend herself, both in the forum and on the boards.

If she had a problem with this thread, or any other thread, or any particular comment, she would make it very clear, and the matter would be dropped, apologies would be issued and all would hopefully be good. I do not think she or any of the other ladies around need you or anyone else to be annoyed for her, or defend her in any way.

That is all mate, good day to you.
Xapi (194 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
Also, what jbalcorn said.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
@Xapi

Duly noted. The goal of my thread was not to 'defend' djbent specifically, or anyone. I agree that she can indeed speak for herself, and often does.

What I was adressing, is what the prevalence of such an emphasis on a female being a sexual object says about the php community as a whole. Clearly some females feel comfortable with it, but if *one* person were to leave this site because of disgust about this attitude I think that would be extremely negative.

And of course this is not so say that that is a definite reason for you to cease all activities. I simply ask you to analyze whether you want to stand for the type of thinking that (to me at least) you represent.
Akroma (967 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
oh, I've had some people ont his site actually try to hit on me, and go damn I was annoyed by them.

but as far as some jokes on the forum go, I am not going to call a feminist squad on you
Xapi (194 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
@FS:

1 - I do not consider females as sexual objects in any way. I do consider females to be sexual subjects, as much as males are.

2 - Clearly, the way the females are treated reflects what, at least I, feel they are Ok with being treated. I do not mean to offend anyone, and if I've taken things too far, I'm willing to apologize.

3 - As a corolary, I believe that the treatment some women receive in this site has a lot more to do with how they act, than the mentality of the rest of us. You speak of more than one topic on this sot of matters, yet I recall only three in the past few days, this one, one started by Biddis, qualyfing herself as a "drunk girlie", and one started by Miss bent, commenting on the fact that she was "wasted and bored".

Now, I'm not one to judge that as a bad thing, and I really don't. I like the fact that these girls are honest, sincere, and find discussing these things funny, or at least interesting. However, whn you put these matters into discussion lightly, you're bound to have other people take the same approach to them.

Am I making any sense?
jbalcorn (429 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
mmmm...feminist squad. damn, another fantasy started.......
Akroma (967 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
I mean, come on.
I've been a member of much, much more adult oriented communities, and I can assure you, what is goin on here is nothing.

at least here people have the tact to actually ask me wether I want to see their pictures before linking me to their dicks.

also, I should point out that the forum and the press in games are two totaly different things. I do absolutely not approve of any such jokey in a game.

I want recognition as a good player, not as a female player, or any other kind of player depending on minorities I am part of.

it's neither "despite" nor "because of". none of my attributes that are not directly linked to diplomacy are related to the game, and have no influence in that.
Onar (131 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
And that is the atitude I like to see taken.

To me, women are not sexual tools. They are opportunities. As much as men are. And I have to say, I am surprised that Friendly Sword, of all people managed to bring the mood down so far on what was clearly meant to be a light-hearted thread.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
I'm just a mean 'ol buzz-killer.

Sorry if I put the mood down, but when I have to do a little rant, then I have to do a little rant.

And I agree with Akroma that this is probably one of the tamest forums ever in terms of insulting, harrassment, misogeny, etc. etc. Does that mean many other sites are hell-holes of despicable human behaviour? Yes it does.

My statement though, was not intended as a lecture. It was more of a 'c'mon guys, if you keep this up then things get questionable'.
Onar (131 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
Who says questionable content is a bad thing? Keeps us all on-edge. Push the envelope a little!

Invictus (240 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
Sure, take what I said in the worst possible way.
Not to participate in this thread, but I believe in the 'I'm on a three hour conference call, entertain me...' thread, it was one of the 'girlies' who posted that she was forcing another of the 'girlies' to strip in order to entertain me. So if topics veer in a certain direction, its not a surprise.

sorry, on topic, i've never met djbent, nor played any games with her.

I imagine she hasn't committed any serious crimes so she's a relatively balanced individual, or she has never been caught committing any crimes and is in fact some kind of "evil" genius, parralleling Professor Moriarty in scale but without becoming infamous (due to the inherent benifits of anonymity)

I only hope i never find out which.
Akroma (967 D)
10 Jul 09 UTC
meh, wether she is proud of it or not, there is no point in rubbing it into everyone face.

I have things that I am proud off too, but god damnit I do NOT want them to be discussed on the forum

Unpause a game
We kind of have a problem in the game "Operation Big Brother". The german guy got banned, so the game was automaticly in Pause for waiting a remplacement.
We did have one, and need now to unpause the game. The problem is that the Italia guy never connect to the game !
So the Italia is the only one to not unpause the game, but as (I think) he will never come back anyway, we are froze for ever !
What shall we do ? =O
