My meager pay was hardly a gift for the time spent overseas to,places I did not want to be. No from a modest investment i grew my wealth providing housing for others for a price. And my time as a small businessman and as a private school teacher is where i got the bulk of my funds

40% of the country is taking handouts?
I assume you are including small business loans, student loans, welfare, subsidies for farmers, auto makers, military subcontractors, and the thousands of other services taxpayer money gets put into.

To give you an example there are military bases all across 7 continents which cost millions to run monthly. We have to house, feed and provide heating/cooling for those bases. In mamy places we arent at war and very very likely wont be : okinawa, azores, and germany.

Are we going to war with Germany? Thatd be cray

I'm not rich so the Republicans are going to soak me for taxes. I'm seriously considering reducing my income and living off savings so they can't get it.

The Republicans are going to find out that the insurance premium reductions aren't going to happen and voters are mad for losing their coverage. Before ObamaCare even the non-profits like Blue Cross were piling up money with increases that weren't needed.

And when i was on ships I was on 24/7. I was allowed six hours of sleep and required to serve during the other waking hours. I spent many 24 hour days and was sleep deprived. So do not disparage the small sum I received there. But to pay for people who sit on their butts and just breathe?

The military defends a nation's freedom. It's the opposite of slavery. In fact, it may sound paradoxical, but Franklin's famous quote about freedom and security comes from a speech where he's asking for more taxes for the army.

The principle of taxes to grow expand and swell militarism is no different than throwing money into the EPA, Fema, Infrastructure.

Oh wait it actually is because while we arent at war, there are oil spills that need cleanup, there are roads needing upkeep, there are children who need schools there are wildlife refuges that need to be kept pure, there are indeed many things we need. Building more tanks, missles, nukes and army bases is not a priority.

Brad do you really think 11 guys with boxcutters who crashed some planes destroyed or hindered our freedom? If 11 guys can cause us to dump a trillion into military spending then we have a problem buddy.

We have a spending problem and losing a few thousand people is enough to make us sacrifice life, liberty and our taxpayer money on fear.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
05 May 17 UTC
The miltary budget is not the cause of the debt crisis. We spend five dollars for every four we take in. Most of the increase is due to health care. No system can maintain that level of drain. We already have begun printing money that is beyond the income to the treasury. Do you make a dollar and spend a dollar and a half? Or do your finances have no basis in reality either?

I dont wake up every morning afraid of terrorists, ISIS, North Korea or anyone. Throwing money at those problems wont make them go away. What have we gained in Afghanistan? What did we accomplsh by building enough nukes to blow up the entire solar system? What the fuck are we gonna use tanks for at this point. Literally?

Also we spend more on military than the next 30 countries military budgets **combined**.
Hauta (1618 D(S))

The military budget as a % of GDP is acceptable. The real problem is that successive Republican presidents have given tax cuts to the rich, resulting in budget "problems". Just go back to the old days pre-Reagan and the budget problems will disappear.

@CAPT Brad said: "We kept the peace as a policeman walking the beat deters crime."

That's simply not true. Mafia and "protection" would be a much more suitable comparison. But now you're forced to keep lying to yourself to justify your choice in life. I know there's no way in hell you're changing your mind about that.

You should read Chalmers Johnson some time. PM me your address Ill send you some of his books. It details how Russia would rig fake ships and bases to look like they were spending tons in the cold war. One example was a fake brand new sub we thought they were building because Spy Planes got pictures of it. Turns out it was just rubber mats. We spent several million dollars on making a sub to rival one that didnt actually exist because our plan for winning the cold war was to just outspend them in production.

But thats just it, Russia wasnt ever going to outspend us for one, and two they knew what we were doing anyway and eventually (sure you could say it worked the USSR crumbled) but what was learned/gained by all that fear and overproduction?

A bunch of proxy wars, shitloads of outdated crap that never even needed to exist?

I work for two different companies. One of which is an amazing Orthopedic Hospital where I cook meals for patients, doctors, nurses, staff and guests. What do you suppose happens to privately owned hospitals when 28 million less people have health insurance?

We are large enough that my job wont be in jeopardy most likely. But less patients certainly poses a problem for many healthcare workers not just me.

With no insurance millions will opt to not get surgeries. They may live in pain or discomfort lomger. Elderly people especially. Non life threatening surgeries will be considered frivilous unless you are super rich.

I fail to see how less people being insured is a net positive.

Thank you for your service CAPT Brad.

C'mon brainbomb: "With no insurance millions will opt to not get surgeries. They may live in pain or discomfort lomger. Elderly people especially. Non life threatening surgeries will be considered frivilous unless you are super rich."

Health insurance & healthcare are separate things; some how you (and the left in the USA) confused the two. What you are describing is the Canadian healthcare system, sans any pretense of health insurance. Those damn rich Canadians coming here for their frivolous surgeries is the problem I suppose. If they would just stay home and accept what their betters say is adequate we would all be better off.

Nothing you said makes any sense. If someone can pay 200$ a month and it covers a knee surgery for example then currently their coverage gets them care.

If they lose insurance a knee surgery is no laughing matter.

The average hospital charge for a total knee replacement (TKR) in the United States is $49,500. A partial knee replacement (PKR) typically costs about 10 to 20 percent less than a TKR. The main reason is that the operation requires a shorter hospital stay.

People having to pay 49,000 out of pocket and being harassed daily by debt collectors. Thats the real system you are white washing. As for your canadians coming here for healthcare and then illegally getting away with not paying for the procedure..
Thats gotta be a pretty rare thing? One which would be you red flagged on a passport trying to ever re-enter america.

As it is now a great many people go to mexico to have surgeries done. And many of them are cheap for a reason they tend to fuck them up.

Lies and Forgiveness
What is the limit you can tolerate in a diplomacy game regarding lies? How many times can someone lie to you before all trust is gone? Ive noticed superior players ask more questions and try to get people to talk more as-a way of sorting out who is "avoiding having to lie". A great many players avoid lying by simply not replying in time or not replying fully.
