I am so incredibly excited. I'm already trying to figure out how the hell I'm going to plan/keep track of shit. Even something like Jdip (at least standard game mode) can't be used cause it doesn't have quantumn "maybe is there or maybe isn't" mode...

When I have played this before, you could also see units in adjacent provinces as well as the first time any foreign unit enters each of your home provinces (SC or not). That allows a bit more strategy and I think would improve the variant. "Full blind" sounds more like luck (especially with some country draws).

I think it would be best to use a site board for communication, so it would be much appreciated if someone in the above list creates a non-anon, minimum bet, random country allocation, passworded game and send the gameID and password to everyone else on the list. The countries allocated on that board will be the ones you play in the SRG.

Full press game has begun! The communication board (gameID=152383) will be kept on pause for the duration of the game.

Also, I got a question in a PM that I'd best answer here as it concerns both games - If a country is eliminated, all players will be informed.

Also, just a reminder to tell me that you are ready for the phase to progress if you want to speed up the game a little. This will work in the same way as the ready button in a normal game.

Another thing I need to clarify - at the start of a retreat phase, you get told of the location of any of your units which need to retreat - you will not be told anything else, such as locations of your other units or available retreat spots. If you order a retreat to an occupied province or one in which a bounce occurred, your unit will disband.

I'm a bit confused by not knowing the locations of our other units (I infer i.e. the positions resulting from the movement that also triggered the retreat). Retreats are traditionally adjudicated as a separate, afterward phase from the diplomacy which would imply we would know the resulting positions of our other units. Is there a particular design philosophy for this choice?

That makes a lot more sense, actually. I'll give all your own unit locations at the start of the retreat phase.

I've always thought of the retreat phase to be an extension of the previous Diplomacy phase, probably because in the F2F games I used to play we would write down retreats immediately after adjudication and then progress to the next phase. I was reflecting that view of retreats when writing that rule, but you're right - you would know the previous turn's resolution at the retreat phase, so it makes more sense to give all unit locations.

The FP game is getting a 12 hour extension - phase will progress at 11PM GMT (~12 hours from now).

I'd play a game of this too if another game is played.

Question about retreats. If a retreat occurs, all players would be aware of it, right? I imagined a scenario where otherwise, the phase changed, but because you were waiting for one player to retreat, someone who didn't know may try a last minute change of orders.

It's a good question that should be answered but there is an order deadline either way:
If we're in retreats, whether you know it's in the retreat phase or not, that means the Diplomacy phase is over and your new orders and moot.

Sure, but they may not have realized how much time had passed and their attempts for new orders could affect their press if that makes sense.
I would propose that when the phase shifts, we get the results with a line about retreat to be determined if a retreat was triggered somewhere else. I wanted to know how Captainmeme had planned to approach the situation.

And in a similar note, maybe announce the lack of retreats when one doesn't occur?

Retreats will be handled in a similar way to how the site handles them - they'll get their own full length phase which everyone will be notified of. The retreats template is as follows:

Blind Dip (FP/GB) - (Country), Retreats (Year).

Your units are currently in the following positions:
(Units)

(The following units need to retreat:
(Dislodged Units)
)/
(You have no orders to submit.)

The phase will progress at (time), (phase length) hours from now.


So yes, everyone is notified of a retreat phase, whether they have retreats or not. If you don't get a PM like this it means there were no retreats.

Readying up is highly encouraged in retreat phases.

A quick note to all participants of both games:

Over the past few phases I've received quite a few orders after the deadline. I don't mind this too much, as I know it can sometimes be difficult to get orders in on time, but it does kill the momentum of the game, so it would be great if this could be avoided. If it's at all possible for you to get orders in before the deadline, please do so.

Also, please remember that all deadlines given are in GMT, and that retreats are supposed to go fast, so please submit them asap during retreat phases.

It's been Xmas and New Year, man, and because it's not an official webDip game, we don't have any notifications on our home screen - give us some slack.
