@kasimax and faces: watch Jon Stewart when he says the word "conservative". There is considerable disdain and contempt. He is obviously using it as a pejorative. As a conservative, it doesn't bother me at all. Just as a liberal doesn't find it insulting when krellen tries to make it an insult.

well, as i said, that's what i gathered so far. i don't know much about detailed politics in the us, but it just occurs to me that you hear "oh, discussing with him is pointless, he's a liberal" more often than the same, but with conservative. that's just my observation, i don't claim it's true.

@kasimax, watch MSNBC and you'll see the same but with "conservative" being used negatively.

I guess CNN, But only because Fox and MSNBC are so damn extreme in their leanings, that by comparison CNN is closer to the center. But having said that, they are still pretty far left leaning.

Living in a social-democracy on the other side of the pond, it's very interesting to read this thread. Compared to our political parties (ie. any represented in parliament) Obama is off the charts on the conservative side. Thanks for the insight!
