The games coming up saying "newbies only" etc lead me to do this. Next friday I'd like to start a couple of new games, and I was wondering:
Can I find 7 people with 3-digit ID's? How many of us are left?

Palestinians, Israel, the US, England, and the World- The Crisis
This thread is to discuss the current situation on the Gaza Strip, who you think is right and wrong, if you think there is a right or wrong, and what you predict the world will do and what you think the world should do

Try to be somewhat respectful, even if it's hard; I know it's a hot issue for some (me included) but do try and stay somewhat civil.

That's assuming there was any goodwill to start with on Israeli side.
I guess now they are waiting for enough rockets fired from Lebanon to start "retaliating" and open a second front.

Tarablus, Nuclear Power Stations should be designed to withstand a much bigger hit than a Grad missile (20 kilos of explosives).

A comment on the hopes for foreign intervention:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/jan/15/war-on-terror-miliband

"UK-US relations have been particular sour in recent days after Washington reneged on a pledge to back a largely British-drafted UN resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The White House over-ruled US diplomats after a demand from the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert."

Does anyone have any info on this?

"The more we lump terrorist groups together and draw the battle lines as a simple binary struggle between moderates and extremists or good and evil, the more we play into the hands of those seeking to unify groups with little in common," Miliband argues, in a clear reference to the signature rhetoric of the Bush era. "We should expose their claim to a compelling and overarching explanation and narrative as the lie that it is."

"Terrorism is a deadly tactic, not an institution or an ideology," he says.

obiwan:
I agree with you on some issues; Palestine needs real leaders, not Hamas. There are what, two people on this thread that have been shouting for Israel's destruction and completely pro-Hamas, if they're even serious. I just ignore them, cause they're obviously ignorant.

Most people will also probably admit that the Hamas rockets and training are under represented, and I admit I haven't seen much myself, but that doesn't change the fact that Israel has caused a nearly incomparable amount of damage to the minds, lands, and people of the Arab Palestinians (the damage done by other Muslim countries to Israel is a different issue that should not be taken out on the Palestinian people).

I'm guessing you support the war in Iraq? The downfall of US popularity and popularity of Israel with it may show a trend in world public opinion, but who cares if that comes and goes. If the Iraq War were successful from the start and Bush were popular, would that make the war a good thing; maybe then Israel would still have a popular public opinion, but that wouldn't make it right. I thought this was a discussion of what the right and most responsible actions are for the welfare of all people, not a discussion of whether a public opinion will last or not.

Most of your points argue on this issue, but some of them seem to have so little substance and so little to back them up, except a few compelling comparisons that inspire sympathy for Israel. I suppose that is what they need most though, because they basically survive on sympathy. So yes, I sympathize with Israel, but not here, not on this issue.

But seriously, you say people watch too much biased media and then you come on here and give a biased view of things also. What do you expect?

In your last post you seem to be twisting the words of people more than usual.

"And here's an interesting note to consider: the common complaint is Israel is being tyrranical because it was terrorized and haunted."
I don't remember anyone saying that. The closest thing I can remember to anyone saying anything like that was you, when you said that Israel is being overly paranoid.

"And now so many are opposed to Israel, many going with that cliched and trendy comparisson to Nazi Germany- hurtful and a mighty slam to Israel for obvious resasons, and untrue."
Maybe this isn't what your talking about, but on this thread I can only remember one Nazi Germany comparison, yours.

I thought that the UN ceasefire was supposed to do something. I guess I forgot that they were useless for a while there. You would think that the UN would have the power to defend its own buildings.

By the way, did you hear that they set a hospital on fire, destroyed warehouses of medical supplies, attacked UN buildings, and threatened a Greek ship carrying medical supplies in international waters?
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5id2EhQv6jq0iG07Ezz2yR2JkKScA

For the sake of argument, let's say that Israel was totally justified in its invasion. I would still never support setting a hospital full of innocent civilians on fire. I cannot think of a single situation where that would be justified.

@ trim101: I'm POSTING on this thread to encourage people to keep posting.

@ Denzel73: Do you really think he's going to do anything about it? He's going to spend the first year in office saying: "Woohoo! Look at me! I'm the first black president, and the country is still a craphole because the President doesn't have the power to fix anything! Woohoo! I tricked 52% of the American race into believing my false promises! Woohoo! Every president since 1945 has done that! Woohoo! But I'm the first black president to do that! Woohoo! Obama 2012! Woohoo! Elect me again so I can procrastinate for another three years! Woohoo!"

Obama and Africa
This is a serious thread. Will Obama be effective in helping to bring political stability to Africa? Bush did more than any other President for AIDS relief and debt reduction, among other things, but will Obama be able to actually expand this to getting the African people the governments they deserve?

Is it valid to support a supporting unit? I mean, Unit A on province X will support Unit B moving to a province Y. Is it valid to Unit C support Unit A holding, so that an enemy 1-supported movement into province X won't obtain?

A question for the super-experience
In my experience, Russia getting Sweden in the first year puts Russia in a very strong position. I would go as far as saying that the first two years.

Has there been any research/thinking on this? Is there any evidence to back up my gut feel (based on the fact that Russia always wins when I play, and I cnnot convince Germany to block the overrunning of Sweden)?
