Looking for a decent game (RR96%)
I'm looking to join a game with players that will actually play. I haven't played for a couple of years and was quickly reminded why I stopped when in Autumn 01 3 people failed to submit orders in my first game back. My RR is 96% (I'm still ashamed it's not 100% - I CD'ed once before RR was visible and didn't know it would negatively affect my stats). I prefer to play classic. Other than that, I'm not too bothered on rules or phase length. Also, I love players that "ready" often.

Throwing a game
What is everybody's opinion on players throwing a game? There's a debate going on in a game of mine whether it's a form of metagaming or a valid strategy, or just unsportsmanlike, and I'd be curious to see how everyone feels about it.

##UNVOTE HR
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
@Snowy … I’m not sure what I find weird about Tom, but his first few posts seemed somewhat off. I was hoping brainbomb might be able to put it into words for me because I can’t describe how they felt. Brainbomb called him more serious, which I disagree with, and sharper, which to me doesn’t resonate as a bad thing. I’m not sure what he sees about him that qualifies as “angrier” either. Regardless, Tom’s last few posts seem fine, particularly his post to Maniac and to you, so I’m keen to give him a break for the moment.

@brain … can you clarify the above characterization of Tom? I think you could do better. You stated at some point that you felt his play was a little bit off as well.

@Chaqa … what about brainbomb don’t you like? I might be on board too, but aside from the whole Soundcloud debacle, I almost like the almost-reserved, almost-civilized brainbomb.

@Vash … why not participate at EOD? Why not keep up with the thread? Seems outlandish to blatantly remove yourself from even the fun parts of D1. ##UNVOTE, though.

Who hasn’t posted so far?

snowy801 (591 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
@Vashta Why do you like that Jamiet decided to not talk? And why do you think not talking day 1 is a good town strat? (Yes, I've read your post). Sometimes you get mislynched, but that just means you play better next time, instead of declining to play at all.

@Hellenic Riot Why haven't you participated until two votes were placed on you?
snowy801 (591 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
Why wouldn't you want to pressure vote HR?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Because he's doing what he always does, and given that he got fearkilled N1 like 20 games in a row, I can't blame him.

##VOTE Ezio, again.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
@brainbomb

Because Chaqa was patently joking

@bo
You pressure voted me D1 just last game; why don't you want to do it this time?

@Snowy
Because that's how I roll
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Because it was 110% ineffective last game and because, between your uncaring attitude toward pressure last game (particularly as a vulnerable town PR) and a post you made earlier this game suggesting how ineffective pressure votes against you are, you have swayed me into thinking that you don't really feel it and that my time and energy is spent elsewhere.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
@bo: Do you think its odd that Ezio was one of the more active posters d1 last game (30 posts) and is quite absent so far this game? Do find that unusual or inconsequential?

Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Also doesn't this seem like a big contradiction from rdrivera?:

He first says "Newbies should be pressured like everyone else, and D1 is a good moment to do that because if they are scum they don't have any advice from the others yet."

Follows that up by voting goldfinger and now pivoting to Maniac.

He also states later that "The people buddying you I will have to take a look later, as they are mostly newbies so it could be nothing"

Wouldn't that have been a great time to pressure the newbies if you actually believed in the things you were arguing for earlier?

So I'm going to ##vote rdrivera. He voted against goldfinger for saying to not pressure newbs - argued that pressuring newbs was especially effective on d1, then promptly passed up an easy chance to applied said pressure.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Yes, I find that odd, but we're not far enough into the game to categorize it as important or not. I'm more interested in hearing what he has to say because his "jokes" on the first few pages felt rather contrived. Jokes aren't supposed to be contrived. They're jokes.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
I don't see that as a contradiction as much as I see that as two independent convictions being weighed against one another. He wants to pressure new players, but he also wants to vote against what he sees as scummy play on goldfinger's part. How do you see it as a contradiction?
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Fair enough. I'll be interested to see how he responds. I didn't get that feeling from his joke posts, but I'd like for him to get into the real game now.
Tom Bombadil (4023 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
I don't necessarily find the vote against goldfinger to be all the odd (or contradictory) as he had his rationale, but I found it contradictory that he espoused the idea that pressuring newbs is particularly good on d1 when they haven't had the opportunity to get coached, but he is letting that opportunity to do so slip away. I don't understand why he wouldn't pursue his own idea for finding scum.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
Fair. I'll let him answer to that.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
"A post I made earlier this game" - You mean the only post I'd previously made this game at all, one page ago? :p

I've been stating for a long time that it doesn't affect me; that also is not new this game. I'm fairly sure I said something along those lines last game and you attempted it regardless, too. Why've you finally caved in to my superiority?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
08 Feb 17 UTC
I didn't pay much attention to it prior to last game, or if I did, I don't remember doing so. Last game, you said that and I tried it anyway. You weren't kidding. This game, you had a vote on you and you showed up to say that you didn't give a fuck that you had a vote on you. You win, HR. I caved.
snowy801 (591 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you to listen.

Many statements have thus been said and many reads made in the past day and some, and many of you have some idea on who you suspect may be the scum, and who may be the town.

Yes, Ezio's early jokes and subsequent disappearing act is worth noticing and questioning. Yes, chaqa's plays and statements have been pretty dumb and potentially scummy, right down to his omgus on bb. Yes, civwarbuff's comments and reactions are stupid. Etc. on everyone else being voted (except Vash, who we know why he's being voted, and Moscow who I have no clue why he's being voted).

These are all good reads, and all good votes, but I ask you: is it the best vote?

I present to you the case of Maniac.

He opened up the phase with a blatant pocketing of myself. A joke in a joke phase, you think. Understandable. He then makes certain comments to the GMs, of which asking for an alphabetized list seems useful, but then follows it up with a vote on MoscowFleet for lurking at 47:39. Lurking. At 21 minutes into the game. This vote has not been rescinded or switched.

Then he starts talking about voting based on an entirely unrelated, ongoing diplomacy game. A distraction play? Some bizarre wifom? Implicit threats to the mentioned people to side with him?

Finally, he actually deigns to talk about this game itself. And his first choice of response, 7 pages in, on a side comment Jamiet made about lynching the most experienced player, revealing that said most experienced player would be himself, while simultaneously attempting to downplay the weight of his experience. Is this really relevant in any way? Is this really the kind of thing town wants to say?

But fine. He was mentioned, and he responded. But then it gets worse. His next comment is his refusal to listen to any of brainbomb's recordings, which though I also find quite annoying is vital information that any scumhunter would need.

Then he goes off topic about a wild comment chaqa made regarding bb's behavior, which is the least relevant thing that could've been said at the time. Page 10 was a frenzy of activity and the peak of brainbomb and goldie's duel.

Then he wants to kill a prolific player for absolutely no reason I can imagine, singling out brainbomb, when as others have mentioned I and even goldie have also been prolific in activity. In this same comment he mentions a needle in the haystack analogy which seems to imply that talking is bad for town. That talking is bad for town. That talking is bad for town.

"I'm starting to think town generally is dissdvantaged by too much hay which makes finding needles hard. Can we kill a prolific poster today. BB perhaps?"

And then he says we shouldn't force Vashta to contribute, claiming that he would have nothing of value to say, which is so decisively scummy that I don't even understand how to express it in words. And then after that he says voting to suss out lurkers is a waste, when it got peter and HR talking and making salient points.

Some of you may be thinking that I didn't need to point out every single comment he made. At first, I thought so too, and went back to carefully identify the comments which most identify him as scum. But after a caredul reread I found that every single thing he has said is scummy beyond belief, that if Maniac turns out to be a town player I would be the first to accuse him of game throwing. There is no way anyone is this bad of a town. I am certain he is mafia, and I hope to convince others of this read as well.

Maniac (and anyone else for that matter)'s comments may be searched on http://mafia.peterlund.se/search_form.html by typing in his name in the first box.

LYNCH CHAQA holy shit people. Are you kidding? This is so obvious its depressing
Balduran (119 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
@snowy I feel like some of your points aren't as scum indicative as you claim. For example, refusing to listen to brainbomb's recordings might have helped convince brainbomb to stop making them, and his poorly timed/thought out comments could easily enough be mistakes.
That said, the evidence as a whole is quite convincing, and a few of those points would almost stand alone as enough reason to vote for him.
##vote Maniac
@brainbomb I was considering casting a vote against Chaqa earlier, but, despite his uselessness and lack of explanation behind some of his claims, he doesn't seem as scummy as Maniac does. On top of that, it's easy enough to lynch Chaqa in the future if he doesn't step up and contribute more.
Alright, I've had a fairly busy night and must be going to bed. I know I've missed some calls, but I'll hit the important stuff and read the thread more closely in the morning to hit anything I've missed.

@bb - I'm getting towny vibes from Moscow, despite his more recent absence. Zorclex and Chaqa are lurking very hard and something should be done to make them contribute more.

Also, I never scumread Peterlund. It was a pressure vote.

@civwarbuff - care to explain what it was that I did that you find scummy? Or were you just parroting and sheeping brainbomb?
brainbomb (290 D)

Goldfinger is nice. Pleasant. Kind. And SOOOOO OBVIOUS SCUM for fucks sake how is he not #1 wagon????
snowy801 (591 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
If I may observe that you're not even voting for him.
And I can't speak on behalf of others but I believe it's easy to lynch prolific scum later, which is why I have not moved to lynch certain people in this game. If goldfinger is as obvious scum as you say he'll remain equally obvious tomorrow.
Balduran (119 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
Was looking through Chaqa's and Maniac's message histories, and noticed that when Chaqa says:
"lol brain thinks he has it solved on Day 1? He's a fuckin parody of himself"
Maniac feels the need to respond with:
"@chaqa - I've never understood the concept of paradying oneself. Surely you're just being you?"
Now, this could be a harmless, joking response, but page 10 of a mafia game isn't the place for that; he could have sent PM if he was that curious. This could be a failed attempt of a scum teammate to try and cover up the lurking of themself and/or their ally.
Could you explain why you posted this, @Maniac?
