Not 1.6 billion people are members of ISIS. As i said before, if you want to talk about Wahabists, go right ahead. That is less than 5 million people.

People like Noam Chomsky will tell a detailed story of how the rise of ISIS - the most brutal Islamist movement in existence - to the circumstances created by US policy in the region; that the most brutal are the ones who survive, and when you make survival more difficult by invasions, bombing, destabilising governments, and assassinations (via drone missile strikes or not) you create an environment primed for a group like ISIS to take over.

The facts of Turkish and Saudi involvement in support any group which opposes Iranian influence in the region (and Kurdish influence in the Turk's case) And their continuing alliance with the US all have little to do with differences or similarities in religion; it comes down to economic security.
