Magnavox Micromatic Cabinet Record Player
So, I bought a Magnavox Micromatic Cabinet Record Player circa 1968 at Goodwill today. I've never been a huge audiophile but this is still one of the best purchases I've ever made. I'm particularly impressed I was able to plug it in after more than 40 years and have it work right away.

Automatic Cancel
How come games that start with less than 7 players don't automatically cancel? If 2 or more countries don't even show up in a live game why does the system allow it be voted on? It seems like the countries that can get an immediate jump have no incentive to cancel.

Facebook Parenting, Or, How His Daughter Learned to Stop Bitching and Respect Her Parents
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl1ujzRidmU
I was a right shit to my parents at times at 15, especially my father, sure, who isn't as a teenaged boy...but if I'd EVER done or said what she did, I'd have been parented and HOW...and I'd NEVER post something that disrespectful on Facebook like that...but--her father works for Information Technology, and she did that and thought it was smart? Good for him, I say, good parenting...agree?

Too bad we couldn't agree on a 4-way, but at least I got a new experience out of it - being forced out of the draw and thus having to throw the game... Congrats to ulytau for being able to capitalize on it, at least I feel I got something out of the game!
AlexNesta (239 D)

Now, about the 4-way in 2-Y, I feel I could have gotten more out of the game had I not made some terrible mistakes, including an NMR in 1902... England is my favorite country to play and I think I could have soloed, had Germany (Ursa) not used its only remaining army against me twice in a row (why oh why?), preventing me from landing more armies on the continent. Then Austria (The Czech) stepped in, and I was never able to regain the momentum... The four-way seems fair to me; I had just experienced others trying to squeeze me out of a draw in my other game, so I didn't feel like pushing all the way for a 2-way draw with Austria.

Thanks guys. At some point I (as France) was in position of being almost eliminated, but while Italy and England warred it became clear to me England was in no position to finish me off. So Paris and in some matter MAR were safe. Enough space for me to mess around, with Italy's homeland being vulnerable. I wanted revenge against him first but then I realized England would win and I was in the right position to do something about it (messing around in Germany). Concluding, I am happy to be in the draw as in the later years I feared being crushed between the two big guys.

And AlexNesta, to keep you off the mainland ofcourse! :P

Please can everyone in Summer Gunboat 2011, Game 3-Z start pressing ready?
I am in this game and press ready every turn - it's a gunboat so it seems really silly that others can't just press ready.

We are the last game to finish for the Second Leg and holding the whole tournament up. Come on guys. It's the Summer 2011 tournament, it shouldn't be taking this leg.

Wow. That's your only contribution? I take that mistake on board but you could have at least supported my encouragement for players to finalise.
ulytau (541 D)
12 Dec 11 UTC
I support finalizing in a tournament. Obviously, it's true that one should be prepared to wait the full phase when joining a game but we didn't join a Summer tournament with the expectation that the finals won't be even started in the middle of December. At least in the case of your game, there is still much to think about and I can see how one might forgo finalizing once in a while to go over the whole situation. However, those not finalizing won't probably finalize even in the endgame where there's nothing serious to think about. In a regular game, that's their utmost right. In a tournament, that shouldn't be the case. A simple politeness guideline for following gunboat tournaments might be to finalize after certain game year passes. Not enforceable but a question of paying respect to those already finished.
JesusPetry (258 D)
13 Dec 11 UTC
OK, sorry, Sarg. This is really taking a bit too long.
Geofram (130 D(B))
13 Dec 11 UTC
We must remember that this is a very large tournament (and my first time running one.) I agree that we should have at least started the finals by December, and we didn't due to a combination of my inexperience/slowness, having to get a few replacements, and the longest gunboat games I think I've ever seen, but overall I'm pleased. Had the tournament ended any earlier, I would have just made a new one of some other style.

I don't think there is anyone that's decided to quit webDip and is only hanging around because of the tournament. We all play year-round. =)

Down to 3-Z. Could possibly change the fate for several participants!
To note: For mine and everyone else's sake, final game assignments will not be sent out until after the holiday. I do have a question for those that know they're moving on (and any that might). Would you prefer the games staggered one or two years? Or started all at once?
yebellz (729 D(G))
14 Dec 11 UTC
I'm fine with either way, as long as the stagger isn't more than just a year or two. Also, I appreciate the break during the holiday. Thanks, Geo.

Thank God 3Z is over!!! Ursa, sorry I forced your elimination. I couldn't see agreeing to a 5 way draw and since Hammac and I were now working to stop Italy and he was not attacking England, I had to try for you. I was shocked DanIam88 didnt want this at first and actually interfered for a while. I had to prove he couldnt get to me to get him to attack you by setting the plate for him to get all the centers. My thinking, unless theres a need for a tie breaker, the centers wont matter and I wanted the 4 way, not the 5 way.

And a questioin for Uralllesbians: I wondered for most of the game why you continued to attack my backside while I fought England and France and Italy ate your lunch. Hammac, I am so glad you saw the writing on the wall and back off my borders so I could turn around and fight eastwards. That was genius. Had you not done that, I guarantee D88 would have soloed.
Trooth (561 D)

Trooth (561 D)

Sarg, just went back and saw your post. It can be frustrating I agree. In defense of not finalizing though, some times theres a reason. I wont finalize when a neighbor has not posted any orders yet most of the time. And sometimes I post orders just in case so I dont NMR when I am really busy with the intention of squeezing in more time to think it over. Sometimes I have a tough decision and decide to post orders, then sleep it over and look at it again in the light of a new day when I may have a different view or am simply less tired. That being said, I have seen players not finalize orders when they have no choice such as a dislodged unit with no retreat. Theres not much reason to do that other than spite.
ulytau (541 D)
14 Dec 11 UTC
Geofram, I'm also OK with both possibilities though I preffer starting all at once.
