ever notice with women
they're either not really ready and there's more friction than maybe you'd like, or it's a slip-n'-slide? why a binary function? has anyone else noticed that?

Any Debaters?
So, really simple topic. Are there any past/current High school/College debaters here? I'd just like to see how prevalent debate (specifically in the NFL [National Forensic League]) in this community is. Post below with your event (LD, PuFo) and status please! :)

I have no comments, other than that I threw my hands in the air when Italy attacked me and hoped Turkey would get more of my centers than he did.
Fortress Door (1837 D)

yeah, Draugnar must have been frustrated over lack of progress in France
Mapu (362 D)

I was Turkey. Austria came at me pretty hard and I was unable to make (m)any gains as I had Russia at me too. I had taken Seva since Russia was being killed up north. Austria left his centers wide open and apparently, Italy couldn't resist, which helped me tremendously.

Italy had all of his units in Austria so I decide to let him have that and shift the battle to his peninsula, which seemed to be working, but then Russia and England allied and I realized I could no longer hold off Russia while having my hands full with Italy so I added my draw vote because I knew I couldn't solo.

I was amazed that Russia and England coordinated that Munich capture in the last year. How did you guys figure that one out?
Fortress Door (1837 D)

"I had Russia at me too"

that happens when you open to Armenia in 1901.

Well, I didn't check the order history, but I gussed he supported me in that phase before that. Units rarely just hold in gunboat, so I ordered to Munich

I started anti-French and was making progress but when I saw that France could.keep me stalemated I took a shotbat turning around. France then signaled peaceful.intentions with a couple suppprt holds so Austria bece.the new target. Once Austria was gone, I was hoping to have peace with Turkey but he jumped on me.so quickly that I couldn't. In the end I was going to turtle in old Austria and hold out until France or Italy became a big enough threat that anyone else left would join in putting down the big leader.

But it was a lot of fun and I think I may a respectable early showing.for.being neither a gunboater nor a live player. I never took more than 5 minutes on a phase.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
17 Oct 12 UTC
you didn't make any progress Draugnar. France played well, and you didn't gain a single center. Italy is a very easy to country to play as in gunboat (at least in my mind)

My game was being an annoying cockroach. Like all my Russia gunboats. The only one of my centers that never fell into an enemy's hand was Warsaw. Glad I was able to get a small hold in Germany .

But you did a play a decent game. I just can't get over the fact you turned out better than me
Fortress Door (1837 D)
17 Oct 12 UTC
though I am suprised that Turkey and France didn't try for a solo. I can get Turkey's reasoning, but France could've gotten at least a few more centers
Mapu (362 D)

I was about to hit France -- when he built in Paris I thought for sure he would move to Gascony to protect Spain or Mars, but he moved it north and his whole back side was open.

the Italians would've stopped you. Not going for France was a good choice

Do we wanna try again? Or is FD afraid I will show him up again with another third place or better finish in the draw? :-P
Fortress Door (1837 D)

Sure! I would be up for it. But the pauses that I thought I might need for the first game still applies. Though with my luck, I would get Austria
Gen. Lee (7588 D(B))

I would be interested in trying this 5 minute thing if ya'll end up needing one more.
I'd love to play again, hopefully this time not as Austria :p (unless I have a very friendly Italy). I would need a pause again beginning Nov 4, but this game went pretty quick, so it will probably be over by then.
Fortress Door (1837 D)

yeah, the game went really quickly. There was only one time the phase went out its full length. (I think it was France???)

More complete EOG:

Russia, my second worst gunboat coutry. Ouch

In spring... everyone but Austria moves anti-Russia (I consider Edinburgh anti-Russia, as it leads the convoy to Norway)

Shake it off, shake it off. I play on... Germany bounces me in Sweden, Turkey in Rumania, and England proves my idea that the Edinburgh army move is anti-England.

Luckily, France was my savior. In the Channel and Ruhr in 1901, I was hoping that he could save me from those two.

1902:
Pissed at Germany, I decide to just open towards him, hoping to gain a center or two. It works, somewhat. I take Berin, but Turkey takes Sevastopol. Oh well, I didn't need that fleet anyways.

1903
I countiue to screw with Germany with my army and fleet, while having my two other units mess with the south. Taking Munich and somehow holding Berlin, I got another army. However, now England had an army in Finland.

1904
I lose Munich to the French and St. Petersburg to the English. OUCH

1905
I recapture Sevastopol from TUrkey, but lose MOscow to England. I would've held Kiel, but I moved to Berlin and didn't bounce, so France retreated into Kiel :(.

1906: Turkey and I have a slight truce, and I knock England out of MOscow. I also manage to keep Berlin with my single army

1907
Italy and Turkey are duking it out. It was a fierce fight, and I was hoping TUrkey wouldn't want another enemy. But in fall, I lose Sevastopol, but I do get St. Petersburg, kicking England out for the rest of the game.

1908
North: I move onto Norway, but England doesn't try for St. Petersburg, and instead supports me into St. Petersburg to show he wants peace. Yay ^_^. England I begin peaceful bouncing in Berlin

South: Turkey gets into Ukraine, but I am in position to defend my centers. I also accidently support Ukraine-Moscow (so glad the rules don't allow disloding your own units :\)

1909
I take Ukraine, and end up bouncing TUkrey in Moscow in fall. Good position
I move to NOrway again, simply to make sure England doesn't try anything funny.

1910
England supports me into Munich, which is enough for me to know England isn't stupid I take his offer, and I get into position to retake Sevastopol.

However, then Turkey drew. The only person who, in their position, I would try for a solo in is France's

England: Nice having a little bit of a fight. Your army really screwed me up, but we got it together in the end
Turkey: All throughout the game I was screaming at you. Luckily you decided to pick a fight with Italy, so I was able to defend my centers.
Austria: One of the rare games where Russia and Austria don't even notice each other throughout the whole game.
Germany: Man, I made your life hell. That is what happens to Germany's who bounce me in Sweden :-)

Muted threads blocking home page?
Do muted threads still take up room on the home page? I really have no idea what the cutoff is for how many/what posts make it to the home page.
Just wondering if anyone knew.

Distinction Between Draws
It could just be me, but my indifference to number of points and focus on %'s of wins/draws etc stops me caring so much about the number of participants in a draw, and much more willing to try to solo with the possibility for a large draw, than just have a smaller draw, thoughts?
