Magnavox Micromatic Cabinet Record Player
So, I bought a Magnavox Micromatic Cabinet Record Player circa 1968 at Goodwill today. I've never been a huge audiophile but this is still one of the best purchases I've ever made. I'm particularly impressed I was able to plug it in after more than 40 years and have it work right away.

Automatic Cancel
How come games that start with less than 7 players don't automatically cancel? If 2 or more countries don't even show up in a live game why does the system allow it be voted on? It seems like the countries that can get an immediate jump have no incentive to cancel.

Facebook Parenting, Or, How His Daughter Learned to Stop Bitching and Respect Her Parents
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl1ujzRidmU
I was a right shit to my parents at times at 15, especially my father, sure, who isn't as a teenaged boy...but if I'd EVER done or said what she did, I'd have been parented and HOW...and I'd NEVER post something that disrespectful on Facebook like that...but--her father works for Information Technology, and she did that and thought it was smart? Good for him, I say, good parenting...agree?

Round Two game assignments will be going out in 24 hours.
Use this time to double check my work on the scoreboard and announce any discrepancies on this thread and/or to my email. I don't think there are any, but this is your invitation to find them or forever hold your peace.

Stay tuned for more news and updates. Here we (finally) go folks!

Round Two assignments have been posted.
You can view them by clicking "Second Leg" @ tinyurl.com/gunboattournament

These matches were chosen based on an attempt to maximise exposure of every player to every other player whilst still seeding said players based on previous performance.

Remember, first game announcements go out to your email addresses midnight tomorrow. I will give away empty slots based on ranking (so starting with hammac) on Friday at 5pm EST (65 hours from now).

Please contact me (or post here) with any questions or concerns.

Thanks Ursa! I've really enjoyed putting it on, it was shaky at first, but I think I've discovered some things that people seem to really desire out of their tournaments (like the spreadsheet) and some things that people have a hard time with that I could possibly make better next time.

Geofram, first of all thanks for all your hard work on this tournament.

I just give a look at the second leg games and find weird that I will play all three games with AlexNesta. The idea wasn´t you play most diferent players? I also notice that this is happening with other players too (JesusPetry/Ursa, dellez/UnkownHero, Maniac/yebellz and so on). So maybe the algorithm you used to set the groups have some problem.

Not sure if it would make a difference, but UnkownHero should be #20.

...and kudos for all that you're doing, geofram.

I think that with seven players in each game and three games you can't avoid repeating opponents - at least I couldn't come up with a system.
Good job, Geofram!
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
06 Sep 11 UTC
@Jesus - I agree with you that you probably can´t avoid repeating opponents once, but I am sure that we can have a system where you play at most twice against the same player.

@rdrivera2005 "I just give a look at the second leg games and find weird that I will play all three games with AlexNesta." - I should be the one complaining here... :-)
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
06 Sep 11 UTC
@Alex - I don´t think so, you finished the first leg way ahead of me :-)

But it´s not a complain, I just pointed that we can have maximum two games against one single player, just need to make 3 players swap in the third games (if someone has interest on this, ask me on a PM).

Geofram (130 D(B))
06 Sep 11 UTC
@rdrivera, you're right, but I also weighted seeding when I . I want to take another look at it, but I definitely want to have your performance in round one have a factor in who you play.

I also thought have having an equalizer game where players 1-7 were together, 8-14 together, and 15-21 together, but I don't think most would agree.

@trip, I will fix that before I send out assignments. I get out of class VERY late tonight. (having remembered this, it may not actually be midnight that the emails go out, but it will be before most of you wake up)

Thanks for doing all this Geofram, having a spreadsheet has been a nice touch.

Question: How many progress to the Final Round?

And, where are all my games with rdrivera? I don't have any...AlexNesta gets all the fun.

Geofram (130 D(B))

No, there is no restriction on the first game. And I goofed.
There's no reason to have the phase at 10 days for the first one.
My bad on the copy-paste guys, I'll get it fixed asap!
