Here is the wording of an actual sign.
"The parking of any foreign made autos on Local 659 property is absolutely prohibited."

So if a Chevy Silverado and a Toyota Camry are parked on this lot which one gets towed?

When you go to THE website people use to buy cars, Cars.Com, they have a list of cars that contain the most parts made and assembled in the United States.
The top 10 cars with American made parts assembled here in America?

1- Camry 2- Accord 3- Malibu 4- Explorer 5- Odyssey 6- Sienna 7- Wrangler 8- Traverse 9- Tundra 10- Acadia.

http://www.cars.com/go/advice/Story.jsp?section=top&subject=ami&story=amMade0611

The Silverado didn't even have 75% American made parts. Only 61%.

Think about that the next time you assume something is American made.

Bill Clinton wrote a Newsweek article "It's the economy stupid"
http://www.newsweek.com/2011/06/19/it-s-still-the-economy-stupid.html
You've got to love #7 "Guarantee Loans"
Bill still doesn't get it. He required banks to write quotas of sub-prime loans with his expansion of the "community reinvestment act" and then he deregulated Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac to allow them to buy up those sub-prime loans in the secondary mortgage market with the taxpayers on the hook for "Guaranteed Loans."
Bill has some great ideas in the article but #7 isn't one of them Bill.

Tettle, I think the sign meant cars made by American owned companies. So it was going off of brand, rather than actual production facilities. So only Ford, Chevy, GM, etc. Sadly my Volvo no longer fits this criteria :(
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

Goldfinger, sounds logical. The Cars.com article showed how much work GM and Ford do in Mexico now. I drive American, an Odyssey, #4 on the list of cars made with American parts and assembled in America. The profits may go overseas, but the wages, property taxes, parts orders etc. pump juice into our economy.

There are $1.2 Billion dollars in $1 coins owned by the Treasury that do not circulate because there is no demand for them, but because Pelosi's Congress mandated their production in 2007 the mint keeps cranking them out as ordered.

Here is a link to the story that ran on NPR

Except Honda and Toyota hate American workers. Honda's HQ is right near where I live, and all they do is hire underpaid temps and have done everything they can to attack workers here. Of course why would Tettleton care about American workers. All he cares about is capitalist profits. These scab loving companies also get the full backing of the Japanese government with huge amounts of (gasp) *government money* to undercut American workers here in the states. Yeah, "American-made" indeed.

Not surprise Tettleton drives a car made by Japanese government money.

The coin scheme wasn't initiated by "Pelosi's Congress". Do you even read your own links? The law was passed in 2005 and *began* in 2007. Pelosi had nothing to do with it. It was sponsored by Republicans in both Congresses. Learn to read.

You seem to be jumping around a lot. In any case, I personally would love to see the $1 bill go away. That is one way I WOULD like to see the U.S. follow Canada and Europe. There are many ways I would not.

Aren't you about saving money? Coins would in the long-term save the government more than half a billion in printing costs, since coins last a hell of a lot longer than bills.

Being from Canada, we have both $1 (Loonie because there is a loon on it) and $2 (twonie, because it sounds cool, there is a polar bear on this one). I much prefer this then trying to distinguish between similarly coloured bills that have vastly different values. In Canada you can glance at your wallet and if you see a lot of brown ($100), pink ($50) or Green ($20), you know how much money you have. If you see a lot of purple ($10) or blue ($5) you know you don't have as much.

Since this thread is pretty much only about hijacking this thread and not about actually talking about the pointless topic that originally started it, I'd like to ask if anyone has ever read the Order of the Stick web comics?

OOTS is a D&D themed web comic that's been quasi-popular for several years now. It's found at giantitp.com for all you D&D fans out there that have never heard of it. Unfortunately there's been a long lull in activity on the site lately. Not sure why.

Puts thinks people forget what an fool he is so he confirms that fact multiple times a day.

For example the Presidential coin program was started in 2005, but "thanks to a government program that has required their production since 2007."

He is too stupid to realize that it became mandatory in 2007.

I appreciate how diligent you are Puts.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)

People use dollar bills instead of dollar coins because bills are more convenient.
Congress passes laws establishing dollar coins and then passes other laws requiring the program to continue because power corrupts Congress, and the members of Congress are no brighter than the average American. In fact the member of Congress are probably not as smart as the average American because the majority of them never learned how to control their egos. At least you can count on a normal American to do what is convenient for them.

There is an earthquake in Los Angeles.
One store sells bottled water for $10 a bottle and another store sells bottled water for $2 a bottle.
So people line up and wait for hours to buy the $2 bottle of water.
While they are waiting in line they could be putting their lives back together in numerous ways.
Did they really save any money if they waited an hour for the $2 water?
The perfect example of this is Black Friday.
People get up early, wait in line for hours to "save" money on sales.
People pay money to save their time and people pay with their time to pay with money.
We won't even mention why people living in an eathquake zone wouldn't keep water at home.
A case of water costs $5 and can be stored on top of the fridge.
That would require mature preparation for the future and foregoing a pleasure today by investing in tomorrow.
I digress from the original point.

How hard is this to understand, the program was put into law in 2005, to begin circulation in 2007. This is pretty basic.

http://legislation.politicalinformation.com/presidential-$1-coin-act-2005.htm

Where is this supposed 2007 law which "made it mandatory"? I've searched on Thomas and elsewhere and no such law exists. The 2005 law was quite sufficient. It called for every former President being on a coin, 4 Presidents a year, beginning in 2007 and ending in 2016.

And don't pretend you're against government waste when you oppose saving the government between $500-700 million a year in printing costs (which is why Citizens Against Government Waste supports the $1 coin scheme). Coins are not "more convenient", since $1 bills are often used in machines and are difficult to use. You want to gut social spending but continue to waste billions in printing dollar bills because it's supposedly "convenient". The reason it is not being used is because people are used to $1 bills. If $1 bills were eliininated, they'd use the coins and get used to it. But forever reason US Mint decided not to do that.

How hard is it for you to learn a new word Puts "required."
I guess you don't understand the basic sentence that NPR wrote.
"Thanks to a government program that has required their production since 2007."
Fools who rise to defend government at every turn can't comprehend that a program that was "established" can't be ended because it becomes "required."
Of course that is how government works.
What was once a program that could be ended becomes a required expenditure.
Puts diligently proving he is a fool once again.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 Jun 11 UTC
Required production since 2007 because the 2005 law required their production beginning in 2007. What new law passed in 2007 doofus? Show me the law. Stop embarrassing yourself.

People don't use dollar bills over dollar coins because it is more convenient. They do it because that is what they are used to doing.

The problem with officially replacing dollar bills with dollar coins is how it affects businesses. Various coin dispensers would need to have parts swapped out and pieces of software would need to be modified. Plus there is the impact to strip clubs. Ever try and put a coin in a g string? So various groups are going to lobby against it and with no one in particular lobbying FOR it, we'll be stuck with the status quo.
SacredDigits (102 D)
29 Jun 11 UTC
Man, now I want to try putting a dollar coin in a G-string.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 Jun 11 UTC
The law was passed with as near universal approval as you can get. So the strip club lobbyists evidently aren't very powerful. And if you're only putting $1 in, then you're probably a cheapskate anyway.

1) Tettleton, seriously, wtf

2) Alderian, Do you really think Coins are more convenient than Bills? Bills are lighter, easier to store and, in the US, at least, useable in a lot more places. Honestly, I love dollar coins because they're cool, but they're useless and heavy, so I only carry usually 1 around, whereas I usually have around 10 1-dollar bills.
Tettleton's Chew (0 DX)
29 Jun 11 UTC
Abgemacht, are you serious today? Why don't you post about something serious since wasting $1 Billion on dollar coins isn't serious. We can find $1,000,0000,0000 lying around anywhere. Seriously.

$500-700 million a year saved by coins because you don't have to reprint coins. To pretend that continuing with the dollar bill will save money is some pretty brazen doublespeak.

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: Dawkins, Hitchens, and The New Atheists Get Heir Turn
I'm going to try something different with this week's go-around, as I think a few people believe me to be overly-agressive in pushing my opinions and also because this is a topic I've put off doing for a while now, as not a fan of the New Atheist movement, but not knowledgable enough about the particulars to try and tackle it. So, I aim to be more the receiver here, and I ask two questions, both inside--and I'll get my education from you all. ;)

Kids...
I hate the way that they get really quiet when you're putting in your diplomacy moves and when you get up to check on them (because quiet kids are synonymous with kids getting into trouble) and you find them throwing things into the toilet.

Yesterday I woke up after hearing the kids play in their room at 5:30 to find that one of them took off their diaper and thought it was a novel idea to do various things with their poop and top it off by peeing on his crib.
