To answer your question quebeclove, a SoW session started this past January, and though lots of people posted interest, only two games really got running. Unless a lot of people show interest, i don't think that there will be another game going now.

Tru Ninja, we grouped the SoW students by ghost ratings, and there were regular classes as well as the "graduate" class that i was in - people with GR between 250 and 150.

Maybe we aimed to high for SOW in the past?

What if we just had 1 game, then we only need 7 players, 1 commenter, and 7 advisors. I'd be happy to advise again.

I think that the general consensus is that anyone worse than a 250 GR is a viable student.

I don't actually know what SoW means, do students PM with their advisors? Is their a forum attached to the game?

It's done by pm. advice can be diplomatic, or tactical. It works best when the student has a plan which the advisor can advise on (I think)

Tried it previously. Advisors disappeared, and students didn't know what to do and were going against players who had advice and were easily defeated.

I just finished up the grad game, and would think I'm capable of being an advisor, but I'm only top 150, so I don't know if I'd qualify to be an advisor. There is a forum attached to the game, and the professors commentate on the game as it goes, while each T-A pm's their student with diplomatic/tactical advise

I'd be interested in playing as a student. I've only played a couple games offline and just started playing here.

when i "advise" i go into teacher mode and ask a lot of questions and allow students to decide their own course of action based on what they learn as time goes on. I find its of little use to tell someone what to do or say since they fail to connect the learning to the general situation. What happens in the instances where someone is given an answer instaed of being allowed to make discoveries is that what i tell them only applies in one situation and learning becomes static and not dynamic.

GR is a different ranking system, kind of like what chess players use. Every person has a certain number of "points" and each game that you join, you bet a percentage of your total points. Thus lower skilled players with less points contribute less to the total pot than higher skilled players who have more points. That's the gist of it

Everyone knows that this is a commitment and that CD'ing will absolutely ruin the SoW for the other players, so please if you think you may CD or have a history of resigns, please refrain from signing up - you must fight to the end. Same goes for advisors: if you can't commit don't sign up.
