Gunning for the Gunboat-3 Discussion
I don't think Turkey understands that this is a WTA game.
He gets nothing for letting Russia wins.
And I played poorly as Italy. I tried to stop the Jugger but France kept attacking me and not sending a fleet to safeguard the Ionian.

Why No in-game messaging?
Isn't the main purpose of "Diplomacy" communications? Why are there lots of games that specify No in-game messaging? Just curious. Unless the game is anonymous, I would be worried about lots of private communications.

Beginners guide to Gunboats?
So, I'm pretty intrigued by the idea of gunboats but I feel that there are a lot of nuances that are a little tough to pick up on the fly.
Anybody wanna give me a quick few points so I don't seem like an idiot on my first game?

What a wonderful start to this weekend. 7 of us are sitting together having a blast waiting for abge to show up.

Crazyter is an absolute sweetheart and a wonderful host, and for those ofu wondering MadMarx is just as imposing in real life as he is on webdip =P just kidding, he's quite the gent!

Wiz, Thucy, joey, and aeneas are also sitting here and trading jokes!

More to be written soon I'm sure!

Hey all,

Quick update then I'm off to write the rules.

Meeting everyone was amazing! It was great to talk to people irl about diplomacy and see the people I've spent so much time with on this site.

It was great to finally meet Crazyter, who I've spent the better part of a year planning this event with.

Really looking forward to playing with everyone tomorrow. I'll do my best to keep everyone on the site updated with what's happening.

I must admit I was a tad nervous about meeting up with a bunch of webdippers, especially after my "cut-throat" F2F experience earlier this year in Seattle (I know, Thucy, I did it again!), and I could not imagine it going any better so far, everyone was very laid-back, comfortable, entertaining, respectful, etc., etc. I may even regret having to stab each and every one of them repeatedly all day long Saturday AND Sunday, but luckily I have a short term memory and will be free of any/all guilt before my plane lands back in Oregon Monday afternoon! ;-)

PS - Haha, Babak, I could not be any less "imposing" in real life, you crack me up!!

Is there a hashtag we can use? Or is it just one person's account that is being updated?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
11 Jun 11 UTC
that updates based on the account, but i don't see why you can't follow a hashtag too, and there should be a better google app gadget to follow a hashtag... hmm.

Lunch break?! There are no breaks in diplomacy! You stuff your face with pizza and bear and diplome with your mouth full.

Lunch break? You don't get no lunch break! You don't need no stinkin' lunch break.
step 1. stuff mouth with pizza
step 2. use sign language to negotiate
step 3. ???
step 4. profit... or, more likely, mass confusion from all the failure at sign language

What an amazing, yet grueling (sp?) day! Gotta say, the first round left me quite bupset at abge's last season stab which put geofam ahead of me *shaking fist at abge*... but the second round now has me doing a happy dance!!

What a pleasure it is to stab and be stabbed in person.

Now some alcohol

Thank u abge for all your hard work man!

Thucy, wish u could join me, I'm 5 long islands deep and counting haha... wiz was supposed to txt me and join but no show!

Ybellz, looking forward to the vid man!

Also, must be said - poor alex, our boston ftf expert, had to play two games each round. I have no clue how he did it as I could never achieve such a feat!

But without doubt, getting my first ftf solo was one of the most exhilerating feelings of my dip-life!

Another plug for the magnificent job Abe and Crazy have done organizing and running this event. Games have started and ended on time, the troops have been fed and billeted in an outstanding venue, rules and scoring have provided the proper structure and the universal feeling of friendly rivalry has led to six hard fought and thoroughly enjoyable games. We're all looking forward to tomorrow.
